During this past summer when Lucas was doing interviews to promote movies 2 & 3 the subject about the third trilogy (movies 7, 8, & 9) would come up. In one particular interview he got rather agitated and said that he positively will never do the last trilogy and if there were any future live action production done with the Star Wars franchise it might be TV related. Sounds like some of those ideas are starting to be fleshed out.
The rumors about the timeline would work out though. With movie #3 coming up shortly a 2006 series taking place between movies #3 and #4 (the original Star Wars: A New Hope) would smoothly let fans go straight from the movies to the series without being confused about what movie came first, etcetra.
