Looking for the title and author of a sci fi story that I once read.

Hello All,

I am looking for a story that I once read. The story was centered around interstellar space travel. The protagonists leave Earth for a distant star and search for other trails of interstellar ships while in flight. The trip to the planet takes many years. And when they arrive they do find an intelligent species that once had interstellar travel but gave it up when the realities of interacting across the gulf of space at relativistic speeds made the continuation of interstellar travel too costly. When the travelers return they find an Earth that has changed greatly.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Sorry, I only remember reading it in the last few years. And no idea of when it was published. It may have been part of a collection...
