~Part 18~

Rachel wept frantically, Julian was shoving and pushing them both toward the limo, but the gauntlet seemed endless. She felt dizzy, unable to stand as the fans screams pulsated. If Julian hadn’t protected her, they would have stripped her naked or worst, killed her.

Then Louie was there, barging into the crowd, running interference with his linebacker’s body so that Julian could carry her safely through the crunch of overexcited fans.

A redhead ripped her bra from under her t-shirt and jammed it into Julian’s hand. “Wanna D-cup?”

A reporter yelled, “What does Senator Gibson think about your love child?”

Even when Rachel was inside the limo, fists kept pounding on the windows. More reporters yelled questions. Rachel became aware of Julian’s bloody face and torn shirt. A thin line of red streamed from a small gash above his eyebrow.

Dear God. Julian looked like he’d fought a war. Would her life with him always be this insane? Or would it get worse?

When he glared at her, she began to shake.

“What?” she demanded in a low, throbbing voice.

“Are you okay?” He said, brushing her hair away. “They could have crushed you, killed you.”

“I’m fine. “She said reaching to touch his face. “You’re the one who is hurt.”

“I’m used to this craziness, you’re not. They could have hurt you.” He paused. “And you never know. There could be a guy, a kidnapper, a crazy fan, a terrorist…some weirdo who’s just pretending to be a journalist. As a senator’s daughter, you should know this stuff.”

“D-don’t be ridiculous, “she said, turning her face away.

“You listen to me. I know what I’m saying. These photographers are relentless. They’ve got their job to do. But we’ve got our lives to live. If we let them get too close, they’ll invade our private life.”

“I hate this.” She sighed. “What if Nicky had been with us?” They could have killed him.”

“You know I will do everything in my power to protect our son. You believe that, don’t you?”

“You can’t be everywhere all the time, Julian. Once the news breaks that you have a son, Nicky will become a target from all these crazy people who claimed to adore you.”

“What do you want me to do? Quit acting?” He asked, angrily.

“I don’t know.” She replied, as she turned her head away from him and crossed her arms tightly on her chest.

They sped along with a fleet of motorcycles roaring behind them. At first she was too angry with him to notice that Vegas pulsed with a life of its own. Louie made no attempt to lose the swarm, maybe because he didn’t want to endanger anybody.

The strip was clogged with shiny, fast cars; the sidewalks jammed with tourists. When they swerved toward the hotel, a throng of people mobbed their limousine. AS he got out, Julian slid on a pair of sunglasses.

Flashbulbs exploded. Journalists screamed questions. Fans begged for autographs.
Julian took Rachel’s hand and helped her out of the limousine.

“We hate you, Rachel, “ a group of women chorused.

“You stole our man.”

Julian laces his fingers through hers. “Look straight in front of you. “ Then quickly he hurried Rachel inside a wonderland of fake, white marble columns that soared seven stories above an opulent casino decorated with naked gold statues, and long, blue reflecting pools. Ivies dripped from marble balconies. Inside, an army of security guards charged them and held the press and fans at bay. For a moment, remembering the incident at the airport, Rachel felt dizzy with fear that she would be crushed in the stampede.

But Julian’s arms stayed around her. His reassuring voice murmured behind her ear. “It’s okay, babe.”

A dark-haired woman behind the reception desk waved them toward a bank of elevators.

“Show Mr. Sark to his private elevator. Penthouse A.” She held her hands up and clapped. “Now. Before everyone sees him and goes wild.”

Swiftly Julian led Rachel along the edge of the plush casino where slot machines jingled as coins plunked noisily into the trays. Two Elvis impersonators in white sequined capes rushed past them.

Just as she and Julian reached the elevators, a dark skinned platinum blonde tore Julian from Rachel.

“I love you, baby, “she cooed in a honeyed voice that was deep and dark and edgily erotic. “I’ll do anything…anything for you, baby.” She slipped something into his pocket.

Rachel’s mind was racing. She was angry as she rushed blindly toward the elevators.

“Not now, “Julian replied as Louie peeled the lady off him.

Flashbulbs popped.

Rachel dabbed at her wet, burning eyes with the back of her hand. Her body shook convulsively as she punched every button in the elevator. The doors were slamming when Julian reached them. Through the slit in the door, their gazes locked for an endless second.

“Rachel! Open.”

Rachel punched her fist hard on the close-door button just as Julian rammed his foot sideways between the doors.

“Ouch!”

The bronze doors bounced off his foot, and he limped inside. His sheepish expression was a silent apology.

Not good enough.

Rachel felt helpless and humiliated that a scantily clothed stranger had thrown herself at her husband right there in front of her. As if she hadn’t even existed.

“Don’t pretend you didn’t enjoy that.”

“I’m sorry, “he said quietly as he looked into her eyes.

“I’m sorry, too.” She said, motioning to his injured foot. “It’s just that I’m not sure how to handle the fact that everybody wants to be me.”

“Who cares about them, the only person that I want is you.” He said, grabbing her face between his hands and dropping a quick kiss on her lips.

“Can we forget what happened earlier and start our honeymoon?” He smiled.

“What did you have in mind?” She smiled back at him.

“This.” He said as he picked her up over his shoulder and as soon as the elevators doors open, he quickly marched all the way to the honeymoon suite.

“Julian, put me down.” She laughed as she gently tapped him on the butt.

He slid the card in the cardholder and push the door open. He turned around so Rachel could see the room. Red carpet decorated the living room with sort of Victorian furniture. Julian made his way to the bedroom and gently dropped Rachel on the bed.

“Oh My God, there’s even a mirror in the ceiling.” She gasped as she lay there on her back.

“Really?” Julian asked as she jumped on the bed and lay beside her. For a few minutes, they looked at their reflection in the mirror and then turned to face each other and busted out laughing.

“Do you think we can have one install in our bedroom? He smiled. “ I’m kind of liking this.”

“You would like that, wouldn’t you?” Her eyes sparkled with some of that old delight. Her cheeks glowed.

He caught her face in his hands. “Do you have any idea what it does to me when you look at me like that?” He whispered.

“I think I have a pretty good idea.” She whispered back as he pulled her closer, pressing her face into his warm, broad chest, so that she heard and felt the steady, heavy thumping of his heart beneath her ear.

“I love you.” He said, kissing the side of her face.

“I love you, too.” She replied, rubbing her hand on his chest.

~ Part 19~

“I want you.” He lifted her chin, turned her face to his. She reached up and covered his hand with her own.

As always the least physical contact set off a chain reaction in both of them. First, her arms slid underneath his shirt and circled his lean waist. With a shiver, he drew her nearer. Lifting his shirttails, with lips that were desperate to taste him, she knelt and kiss the hard, warm skin as if she could never get enough of him.

“Julian, oh, Julian, “she breathed, clasping her hands together at the small of his muscular back, kissing him, dying inside, surrendering completely to an instinct that was to true to wait any longer.

The tension drained out of him. His arms came around her. His feverish mouth burned through her hair into her scalp. Just as he lifted her into his arms, a knock pounded jarringly against their door.

Startled, she jerked free. Still, for a long moment she couldn’t tear her gaze from his face.

“Rach, “he whispered. Then his eyes released hers, and he strode angrily toward the door to let the bellmen in with their luggage.

Shaken, her heart racing, she ran to the long windows, parted the drapes, and looked out at the sparkling city.

Then the bellhops were gone, and they were alone again. Julian started toward the bar. She released the curtain with a snap and turned to face him.

“How about some champagne?” He offered, lifting the bottle.

“Sure.” She answered as he approached her with the drink.

She took it hastily, but their hands brushed, sparking more raw emotions like the ones they experienced right before they were so abruptly interrupted.

With one hand he unbuttoned his torn shirt, exposing his lean torso. He ripped the shredded garment all the way off.

“I don’t think this is fixable.” He laughed as she came toward him and threw the torn shirt on the floor.

“I prefer you without it, anyway.” She replied, gliding her hands up and down his chest.

“Mmmm. Now, you’re turn.” He said as he gripped the bottom edge of her sweater and flipped it over her head.

“You’re so damned beautiful, “he said in a husky voice. “Nobody comes close.”

“Make love to me.” She whispered against his throat as he picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.

The next morning, she woke up with a huge smile on her face. She glanced to her side and saw Julian sleeping peacefully with a smile on the corner of his beautiful lips.

She held up her hand up and fingered her gold wedding band.

Mrs. Julian Sark.

They were now going to be a family forever and ever.

“Morning.” He smiled as he awoke slowly.

“Morning.” She smiled as she leaned down and kissed his lips.

“I really do like this mirror thing.” He laughed. “Maybe not first thing in the morning, tough.”

“We’ll discuss getting one later.” She smiled. “Right now, let’s get some breakfast, I’m starving.”

“Worked out an appetite, didn’t you?” He teased.

“Maybe. “She smiled. “But I think I can still keep up with you.” She said as she kissed him passionately.

“We’re never getting out of this bed.” He whispered against her lips. “Ever.” He said, attacking her lips once more.

“Fine by me.” She whispered between kisses.

4 months later:

Rachel was gorgeous in a simple white gown that showed the beginning of small pregnancy belly.

She just found out that she was pregnant and rushed home to tell the good news to Julian.

“Honey.” She called out when she entered the living room.

“Back here.” He replied from the backyard. Him and Nicky were playing with the new puppy he’d bought his son about a month ago.

“Honey.” She repeated as he looked up at her and smiled. She mirrored his smile with one of her own.

“We’re gonna have a baby.” She said as he dropped the leash on the ground and came to stand in front of her. He slowly placed his hands on her small belly as she brushed her fingers through his hair.

“Are you happy?” She asked as he nodded. And then he leaned down and kissed her.

“ Very happy.” He whispered against her lips.

“It’s pretty great, right?” She said with a huge smile on her face.

“Mommy, Daddy, when is the baby gonna be here?” Nicky asked.

“Soon enough.” Rachel said as she kneeled on the grass and grabbed her son by the waist so that he could touch her belly.

“You’re gonna be a big brother.” Julian said smiling to his son.

“That’s right, Nicky. You’re gonna be the coolest big brother ever.” Rachel said as he took Nicky’s little hand in hers and places it on her stomach.

“Soon, you’ll have a little brother or a little sister to play with. Isn’t it great?” Rachel asked her son.

“If it’s a little sister, can we exchange it for a baby brother? Please. Girls are yucky!” Nicky said as Julian laughed.

“No, Nicky. I thought so too when I was your age and then I meet your mommy. Mommy isn’t yucky is she?”

“No. “Nicky shook his head. “But that’s mommy.” He smiled.

“That’s right, baby and I always will. I love you so much, Nicky.”

“I love you, too, Mommy.” Nicky said as he gave her a small hug before letting go and running after his new puppy.

“Not so fast, Sam.” Nicky said, calling after his puppy golden retriever.

“He’s growing up so fast. I can’t believe he’s starting school in the fall.” Rachel said with tears in her eyes as Julian wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

“So both you and the baby are alright?” He asked, concern evident in his eyes.

“Everything is fine. And according to the due date the doctor gave me, we conceived the baby on her honeymoon.”

“Must have been the mirror on the ceiling.” He laughed as she gently slapped his arm.

“You’re bad.” She laughed as he kissed her neck, giving her shivers all over.

“I know but you wouldn’t want me any other way.” He smirked.

“That’s true.” She leaned in and quickly kissed his lips.

Epilogue

5 Months later:

Rachel woke up in the middle of the night, sharp pain in her stomach. She quickly got up and started pacing around the bedroom as she tried to remember the breathing techniques she and Julian learned in Lamaze class. For the past two weeks, they had rushed to the hospital until to be told that is was a false alarm but this time, Rachel knew that the baby was coming out tonight; no doubt about it.

“Honey,” She said as she kneeled on the bed and shook Julian on the shoulder, “It’s time.”

“Time for what?” He asked, still very much asleep.

“The baby. I’m gonna have the baby. Now.” She said between breaths.

“What?” He said as he quickly sprung out of the bed. “Why didn’t you wake me?” He asked as he searched for his clothes in a state of panic.

“Shoes. Where are my shoes?” He asked, frantically.

“On the floor, where you left them.” She said, laughing at his hysteria.

“Right.” he said, putting his shoes on. “ Remember, keep breathing.” He said, breathing along with her.

“Come on. Looks like this baby is ready to meet his parents.

A few hours later and most the pain forgotten, David Nicholas Sark was born. All ten fingers and toes verified and kissed by both parents. Little David was now resting in the arms of his mother while his father, Julian was sitting on the bed, smiling at how incredible is wife was for giving him two beautiful children.

“You’re so beautiful.” He said, smiling at his wife.

“Glad you think so. Right now, I must look like a mess.”

“You never looked more beautiful than you do right this moment.”

“Where’s Nicky?” Rachel asked.

“Outside with your parents. I’ll go get him.” He said, kissing her on the lips, before going in the corridor to retrieve Nicky, whose has been waiting patiently to meet the new baby.

“Nicky.” Julian called out to his oldest son. “Are you ready to meet your new baby brother?”

“Huh! Huh!” Nicky replied enthusiastically.

They quietly entered the room and Julian lifted Nicky to set him up on the bed next to his mother.

She smiled and then presented baby David to Nicky. “ So, what do you think of your new baby brother?”

Nicky looked at his sleeping little brother and then back at his smiling parents. “He kinda looks like me but smaller.”

Julian laughed. “Well, I better hope so.”

“He is tiny now but soon, you’ll be able to play with me, okay?” Rachel said, kissing her oldest son.

“Okay.”

“Hey David, I’m your big brother Nicky. “ He whispered to his little brother before gently kissing the little guy’s forehead. You could almost see a tiny smile on David’s face when his big brother caressed his head.

Rachel looked at her two sons and husband and couldn’t be happier even if she tried. She denied herself happiness for so long that she thought she didn’t deserve to be happy but faith reunited her with her one true love and now, nothing or no one will ever tear them apart ever again.

They were married. They had the rest of their lives to make up for the misery that life brought on them. As they looked into their sons’ eyes, all the pains, all the sufferings were quickly replaced by love, joy and laughter.

“From the first moment I saw you, I loved you, “he said, his voice low and husky. “I never stopped loving you, no matter how much I wanted to. And I never will.”

“Same here.” She smiled.

“Say it, ” He ordered.

“I love you.”

“I can’t hear those words enough times.”

“I love you. I love you. I love you.”

“I love you, too, babe.” He leaned in to kiss her lips. “And I can be begin to tell you how much you and the children mean to me.” He said, his voice cracking with emotions.

“Probably as much as you mean to us.” She said, brushing her fingers on the side of his face.

“We’re finally a family.” He said, looking at the three people he loves the most in the world.

“Now and forever.” She said as Julian held Nicky in his arms while Rachel held little David in hers.
