Tom
An Old Friend
2025
It's been 5 years since I've unzipped and updated my music collection archive.
This year, not only will I be searching for the best album art available, I will be working on filling in the missing file data for each song.
This entails opening the file properties, unblocking the data and rewriting the information.
In the past, when archiving, I simply zipped the entire artist collection.
This time I am zipping only the individual albums within that artist collection.
Basically, I am looking at each and every song in detail.
I hope I finish this year (I have a lot of songs) but many of them already have the art and data in the file properties.
EXAMPLE:
Note: This file still needs work

- Make sure Title is accurate to release title [including notations]
- UnBlock (uncheck 'UnBlock' box if applicable)
Blocking happens when the file comes from a different computer. I have gone thru several computers over time and
I buy/find old computers and extract music from the harddrives, this happens to protect my system.
Since I run virus scans regularly, unblocking poses no threat. - Add applicable Sub-Titling
- Set My Star Rating (1-5 Stars)
- Add Song Trivia under Comments
- Make sure Artist is correct
- Make sure Album Artist is correct
- Make sure Song Version Album Title is correct
- Make sure Song Version Album Art is correct
- Make sure Version Date (Year) is correct
- Make sure Track Number is correct
- Make sure Song Genre is correct
- Add Song Release Lable under Publisher
- Add Songwriting Names under Composer
- Add short description of artist/group under Group Description
- Remove ALL non-specific/junk data
(Most can be found using Wikipedia)
Ready-Play VS Archive:
- I have two collections of music; Ready-Play and Archives
Ready-Play is music I keep on my main computer which I listen to regularly.
These are songs which I rate 4 stars or better and/or recently aquire that have yet to be archived.
Archives are all the artist, album and songs I zip and keep on an external harddrive as backup. - This 2025 rewrite changes the archives to reflect better information and accuracy.
- The Ready-Play collection will be deleted and remade using the Archive rewrites.
- Some songs will disappear from Ready-Play and some will be added based on my changes in listening preferences.
- I use Windows Media Player (WMP) as my primary holding player because I like how it's interface looks for the listings.
I find it easier to build playlists and check displays for online tracking like my Last.FM scrobbler. - I use WinAmp (WA) to play the songs and playlists because I like the sound and visualizers better.
- Once WMP is cleared I will clear out WA, Including all Playlists in both.
- I have a notepad with my current playlist songs saved for reference.
- These playlists will be removed in favor of new playlists with new titles
- New playlists will be limited to 6 hours.
- I play playlists in WA on Shuffle Play.
- Non-Saved playlists are built and listened to with WMP and saved if I like it.
- New Playlists will be partially added to ScreenHead's Youtube Playlists
- ScreenHead's Youtube Playlists are recommended to be played on Shuffle.
- All playlists will be mood/occassion specific
-Romantic Nights, Aggressive, Dance, Family Visits, Friend Visits, Holidays, Multi-Version, etc...

Last.FM/Scrobbling:
- ScreenHead's Last.FM Profile can be found at www.last.fm/user/ScreenHeadForum
- What I play gets tracked by the Last.FM WMP and WA scrobbling plug-in (Free)
*Must play for 50% of the song or 4 minutes to scrobble to my Last.FM Play Count Tracking List
*The scrobbler reads the song's file properties, hence the reason accuracy is needed
*If the file properties are wrong or incomplete, Last.FM will not display the right entry or will not find the song
resulting in bad listening tracking on our Last.FM profile. - On ScreenHead's Last.FM profile you can see the songs I play, the albums I play and the artists I play
* You can also listen to many of the songs (spotify/youtube link)
* You can also listen to a custom radio of ScreenHead's collection.
* You can see our top played songs, albums and artists sorted by different time frames and play count.
* As a member of Last.FM you can also comment on our profile, get the Scrobbler Plug-in for yourself, set ScreenHead as a friend/neighbor and discover new music. - Most Scrobbler data will not change because much of my collection is already correct.
