A. Bertram Chandler, the Australian SF author (1913 - 1984) who was best known for his Commodore John Grimes stories, will have a new story published in an upcoming anthology from Jack Dann (Wandering Stars, others).

The story was originally written in 1981 or thereabouts, purchased by Paul Collins (another Australian SF/YA author and publisher) for inclusion in a project which never materialized.

Fans of Chandler's work (FANS!) helped bring the existence of the story to the attention of publishers, which ultimately led to Collins sending the story to Dann, who liked it and agreed to include it in his upcoming project. Collins graciously waived his rights to the story in order to free it up quickly for publication (Paul is a Chandler fan too!).

Chandler wrote science fiction from 1944 until his death in 1984 - forty years of science fiction goodness! His most famous character - John Grimes of the Rim Worlds Naval Reserve - is featured in some 15+ novels and numerous short stories (I've got every single one, lol).

Chandler wrote some excellent stuff. One of his earlier short stories - Giant Killer - is considered a classic, as is The Cage.

Many Chandler/Grimes stories are currently available from both the SFBC and from Baen books in electronic form. Its all rollicking good space opera with plenty of fine characters.
