Hail Hero's Hall users,
The Crescent Order (TCO) was a guild originally formed for SWG, some years before SWG went live. It was one of the early SWG guilds that the original SWG dev team leader, Raph 'Holocron' Koster famously said wouldn't last beyond the game's launch. In reality, the group still exists five years later and still has an active presence in SWG. We actually outlasted Raph
Of course, everyone already knows the issues that SWG has gone through over the years, so TCO eventually branched out into other games. Some it merely dabbled in, like City of Heroes, A Tale in the Desert, WoW and Guild Wars, while others became "official" TCO games, sitting alongside SWG. These currently include EQ2 and EVE, which both boast healthy memberships.
One of the key reasons for TCO's success over the years has been the fostering of a family atmosphere. It almost pains me to use that term now, because "family atmosphere" has become one of the most used and abused terms in guild recruitment. Back when we started, no one spoke about family... they just spoke about being uber and hacking and slashing their enemies and all sorts of other largely unfounded and unverifiable nonsense. But not us.
We set out to be different. We were different. And we're still here today
Presently, I am working with the guild's council to create a presence for Hero's Journey inside TCO. This will be, essentially, a guild within the guild and the proposal suggests it will be administered by myself, Dirk Gently (who you already know from these forums, too), and a third member, Leo, who you will get to meet soon when she finishes some study.
I guess I just wanted to give you this initial heads-up for a few reasons:
(i) Dirk and I are becoming regular posters here and if you enjoy our company, or our comments, or our feelings on what makes a guild a fun place to be, or anything at all about us, I do want you to be aware that we're in the process of pulling a guild together.
(ii) To let you know that, while some people think that guilds which form pre-game are bound to fail, TCO is living proof that this isn't always the case. By choosing the right people, and staying active pre-launch, a strong, tight guild can be born... and prosper.
(iii) Of course, we already have the guild forums at www.thecrescentorder.com/forums and you are more than welcome to join them now. Upfront I will point out that 90% of the forums are only available to members, so you will only initially see a few forums where you can post and as we haven't verified our recruitment process for HJ yet, it could be some time before you progress beyond that point. But, as I say, the forums are there if you are interested.
(iv) It opens a dialogue here for anyone who has questions, or is interested in knowing more.
TCO has a long history of role-playing within MMORPGs and a reputation for being fair and just allies to like-minded guilds, and honourable adversaries to guild's which find themselves on the other side of the fence. Typically TCO aligns itself with the good side of things (eg: Rebels in SWG, Qeynos in EQ2, etc), although we sometimes create alts "on the other side" for fun role-playing and a little game diversity from time to time. But we aren't a "dark" guild.
We set tight, but not impossible, guidelines for recruitment and in doing so, seek to weed out the immature, the 133t speakers, and all the other types of people who are more than welcome to play the game... but not in our guild, thanks. We're really firm on that kind of stuff.
Rest assured, if you enjoy role-play and your idea of a good guild is one where people come together to socialise both in-game and out-of-game (no, we don't go for BBQs at each other's house, I mean socialise in a virtual sense via our forums), and you actually log into a game and CARE about other people and what they're doing, rather than just whether you can level or get another title for your character, I have no hesitation in recommending TCO to you.
At this stage, if you're in any way interested in us, I invite you to drop either myself or Dirk a message - or simply post below - and we can talk. As I said, we are still in the process of pulling the infrastructure together inside TCO, but that doesn't stop us chatting, getting to know each other, and pulling like-minded people together sooner, rather than later.
Cheers,
