Not the End of the World

Has anyone ever read “Not the End of the World” by Geraldine McCaughrean? I just checked it out of the library yesterday and have been so caught up in it I just now finished. It is absolutely amazing! The back reads:

“God wept, and His tears drowned the world. But first He reached out and plucked me and my family to safety. So why can’t I lift my heart up in praise? I must be so ungrateful, so thankless.
‘Your father has spoken,’ Mother said in a tone that forbade argument. ‘Father told you how it must be.’
The rain—the incessant, ceaseless, everlasting rain—hissed at me: a sneering, contemptuous hiss as if to say ‘Keep your place, Timna. Know your place.’”

It is a really great book about Noah and the Flood. What happened during the 40 days and nights, and what if Noah had had a daughter. It is a bit depressing and not at all religious. Example is a favorite quote of mine from the book: “Hospitality is a quirk of the human breed. Hard to suppress. Like violence and lust.”

The author has won quite a few awards. I highly recommend reading it!
