Summary-This is a sequel to “Not Out of Mind” meaning that this is a series. It is the fifth and last installment. This is set three years after “Not Out of Mind” Author’s note-Josh Devlin is original character of mine. He is Ben Devlin’s son, a genius and one of the youngest agents in the CIA (he was fifteen when he began his training). Stephanie has been in most of my stories. When she was fifteen her parents (who were both CIA agents) were killed on a mission; Jack became her legal guardian. She’s begun her training soon after and like Josh she is a genius with an IQ of 180. She is one of the world’s best computer hackers and she is Cambodian American. Now, you really don’t have to know that much about the stories that came before this one, because I’m about to give a recap about the characters and links about the shows. But if you’re the kind of person that has to know how all of this came about, go to SD-1.com and scroll back to about page twenty in the fanfic forum. The first fic in this series is titled “Deepest Fears”. And if you actually go through of all that to just feel caught up, lord you are dedicated. Thank you from the bottom of my little heart. The Recap The married couples are, Sydney and Vaughn, Francie and Joey, Stephanie and Josh, Buffy and Angel, Sark and Cordelia, Johnny and Sarah, Chandler and Monica, last but least Ross and Rachel. Francie and Joey still live in Los Angeles. The couples that are just dating are, Jack and Alicia (Weiss’s widowed mother), Will and Dana, Gunn and Fred. Wes is dating a CIA agent Faith, Connor, and Lorne are still working for Angel investigations. Sark works for the CIA and his wife Cordy (short for Cordelia) was a former higher being. At the time I didn’t know what a higher being was, so I just said that it was a living angel. Angel Buffy Friends The Deadzone The sound of the steel manhole cover clattering against the concrete floor echoed throughout the basement of Trygen’s nuclear power plant. A moment later, Stephanie emerged from the manhole and tapped on her earpiece. “Freelancer, I’m in,” she said. “Excellent,” Sark replied as he watched the monitor from headquarters in Los Angeles. “How about the others?” “They’re on their way,” she said as she watched Josh, Vaughn, and Weiss come out of the manhole. “Can someone tell me again why we came in through the sewer?” Weiss asked. Sark sighed, “Because there are heat sensors, Eric.” “Right,” he replied. “Vaughn, I found the circuit breaker,” Josh said. “Great, the faster we get this done, the sooner we’ll be home,” Vaughn said as he placed the scrambler on the circuit breaker. “Each of you have a room that has a access card, we’ll all meet in the mainframe where the nuclear weapons are being held. Get it, got it, good,” she said before giving Josh a quick kiss. “There really should be a rule against PDA on missions,” Weiss said. “Well in that case, there should be one against lovin’ in one’s office during their lunch break,” Josh said as he eyed Weiss and Vaughn. “Would all of you please stay on task,” Sark said sounding a bit annoyed. “We are,” Vaughn said as he pulled Weiss away. After retrieving one of the four access cards, Stephanie made her way to the mainframe. “Mountaineer?” Sark asked. “Yes Freelancer?” She replied. “You’re amazing.” She grinned, “The mission isn’t completed, there’s no need for praise..yet.” “I wasn’t talking about the mission. When I was still..what’s the word that I’m looking for?” “A big bad?” He smiled, “Not exactly my choice of words, but that explains it. As I was saying, I knew that you were your own person. Throughout these past five years, I’ve watched you grow into a-.” “A young lady?” “Wrong, a woman. I’m proud of you.” She didn’t respond. “Mountaineer?” “Don’t get all mushy on me.” He scoffed, “I’m not, I’m just complimenting you.” “Well in that case, someone is going to get a huge fruit basket tonight,” she said as she stepped into the room that held the mainframe. “I can’t wait.” “And we were yelled at for being off task?” Weiss said as he stood next to Josh and Vaughn. “Whiner,” she said to Weiss as she joined. “On three. One, two, three,” they slid the access cards into the mainframe. She began typing away at the keyboard and seconds later a glass box ascended from the floor; the glass covering disappeared into the ceiling. “That’s it,” Vaughn said. “Those are the nuclear weapons?” “They look like compact discs,” Josh added. “Do not let the size deceive you, these discs can obliterate the continent of Asia in five seconds. Be careful when handling them,” Sark warned. “I will,” Vaughn said as he placed them in his mini briefcase. “Ok, I got them. Let’s go.” A light yawn left Sydney’s lips as she threw down her red pen. She had been correcting papers all night and had just finished her last one. Her luscious lips formed into a smile when she heard the familiar slam of Vaughn’s car door. “Sweetie,” Vaughn smiled as he walked in and took her into his arms. They shared a long but tender kiss. “I see that the mission went well,” she linked her fingers behind his neck. “As always,” he looked at the stack that she had corrected. “And how are you loyal students?” “Good, although two are in need of dire tutoring, or maybe it’s me,” she looked down. “Hey now,” he brought her face to his. “You told me yourself that they’re potheads, they don’t matter. Either they’ll get their act together or just smoke themselves out of college.” “You’re right. Since Ross, Rachel, Chandler and Monica are visiting for the week, we’re all going to meet at Francie’s restaurant.” “So..what should we before then?” Her smile was mischievous. “Do you really have to ask?” They kissed each other passionately. After parking the car in the driveway, Weiss grabbed the brown paper and headed into his house. On flight back to Los Angeles, Phoebe had called him and said that she was craving vanilla ice cream and pickles. He always heard that pregnant woman had weird cravings, but this was just disgusting. Happily, he strolled into the house. “Hey!” Phoebe said as she got out of her seat to kiss him. “Hi,” he kissed her back and placed the brown paper bag on the table. “And how is our little Ethan?” He asked as he rubbed her round stomach. “He’s kicking-oh!” She pulled out the vanilla ice cream and pickles. “Guess what? I’m performing at Francie’s restaurant tonight.” “Honey?” “Yeah?” “Does Francie know this?” “Yeah-huh, after you ask her she will,” she dipped the pickle into the vanilla ice cream and bit it. “Pheebs.” “Please? I haven’t been able to perform in months.” “I don’t know.” She began crying. “OK, I’ll call Joey.” She smiled. “Thank you.” She kissed him quickly before walking out of the room. “I need to change.” “Hey you two!” Joey said as he hugged Francie and Kobe as they walked into thee living room. “Joey, Kobe said his first sentence today!” Francie said. “And I missed it?!” “He’ll say it again. Kobe, asked Daddy what you asked Mommy at the park today?” “How YOU doin?” Kobe said. “That’s my boy!” Joey said as he lifted his three-year-old son in the air. “Now you get changed, because we’re dropping you off at Uncle Angel’s Emma and Anna will be there.” “Yay!” Kobe said before running upstairs. “We should get changed too,” Francie said. “We will.” She arched an eyebrow. “What did you do?” He knew that he couldn’t lie to her. “I sorta promised Weiss that Phoebe can sing..at your restaurant.” “Joey!!” “I know but how could I say no?” “Like this, NO! She drives customers away!” “That’s not true, remember when that group of kids on a field came? They loved her!” “They were from a deaf school!” “Francie,” he hugged her from behind and gave her his puppy eyes. “Fine, but only for tonight.” “Thanks, and someone is so going to get some Joey love tonight,” he kissed her.
