HeroEngine’s second tech demo is live and online!

Our first person shooter tech demo is now online. Check out some screenshots from the game below. This marks the second reference/demo world our engineers have developed. These demos were all created with some part-time work from a few of our engineers and are designed to provide developers using HeroEngine with example implementations of systems necessary to operate various types of games, and hopefully to make the onboarding process to learning HeroEngine easier.

This is the second tech demo now online. There are actually 2 worlds, a world with a blade you can download to get references and check how things work, and a player client for a different world where you can actually play. We didn’t exactly put in a great deal of time creating “gameplay” other than shoot other robots in the face. But there are kill streaks and leader boards, etc. There’s a standard rifle, and a melee axe, and limbs can get blown off, and there are various things you can’t do while missing limbs: missing both legs basically turns you into a turret.
We put out a social game reference world a few months ago, and in a few weeks we will have an on-rails space shooter tech demo live and online.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS & CLUSTER LIMITATIONS

The system requirements for this tech demo are far above the standard blade. The primary additional requirements are shader model 3.0 and a minimum 512 MB RAM graphics card. Please see this forum post for more details. Unlike Hero’s Journey Reference (HJ REF) or Social Ref, there will be additional technical minimums and requirements required to run the FPS Reference world. These changes are specific to the FPS Reference world (and it’s own HeroBlade and Player Client), and not representative of HeroEngine in general.
Also, the demo is only up on one cluster (US East) at the moment, so if you are far away from this cluster be prepared to experience lagging. We won’t be able to put up the demo on the other clusters for a few months, when the 1.80 update goes live.
