I'm actually quite familiar with Pegg's UK work and the dry UK humor that is usually prevalent over US slapstick humor. I liked the premise, liked the actors, liked the special effects (after a while you stop thinking of Paul as being a CGI character) and, as noted, did find humor in it. It is just when taken as a whole that there was just something that was a bit 'off' for me with it. I think the phrase 'trying too hard' would apply. There may be a bit of the old Atlantic Divide influencing opinion on this one A lot of the jokes were very British, and the Americans portrayed in the film were highly stereotypical.
If you liked Pegg in those, catch him in Run, Fatboy, Run as well. In the US it'd be considered as "romcom" (Romantic Comedy) but if you like Pegg's work then you might find it funny as well.I'll certainly watch this movie, based on the track record of Simon Pegg & Nick Frost teaming up in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, two of the funniest movies I've seen in recent years. It will be my goal to make sure it is on my Netflix list as soon as I leave this website. I think I added it some time ago, but can't honestly remember right at the moment.
