The Princess Bride (I admit, it's a guilty pleasure)
Labyrinth (the one with David Bowie)

Edward Scissorhands (another dark movie)
The Neverending Story (skip the sequels)
Conan The Barbarian (Arnie, James Earl Jones, lots of action)
Time Bandits (in the 'quirky' category but a memorable movie)
The Dark Crystal (from Jim Henson but intended for a different audience than the Muppets)
Krull (I'm a sucker for b-movies)
