Season 5 Quick recap of SOS & Maternal Instinct

Tonight's episode was amazing! I was posting play-by-play earlier on SD-1. I'll do a quick recap for now. :D

I'm not sure that I got the part about The Cardinal right.

Recap

Sydney arrives on the deck of the freighter and sees a helicopter fly away. She has no idea who is in it. Just then she gets spotted by Kelly Peyton and the Prophet 5 henchmen.

Syd runs to the radio room and knocks out a a P-5 man. Syd locks the door and uses the ship's radios to call for CIA help, but gets no reply. She repeats identity as field agent Black Seven-Niner and is troubled that she isn't geting through. Sydney gets abdominal pain from contractions. Syd hears Peyton coming. When Kelly gets into the radio room, Syd is nowhere to be found.

At the APO, Marshall plays Sydney's SOS for Jack on computer. Befrore they can locate her, they find the files are being deleted. Marshall is shocked by who is doing it.

Jack holds an emergency conference to announce that someone at CIA headquarters in Langley deleted it. He concludes that Prophet 5 has infiltrated high levels of the CIA. The rest of the APO team are skeptical and wonder if the deletion is by accident. They want to follow proper procedure, but Director Bristow doesn't want to tip their hand. Jack insists that they work on their own without notifying the CIA. They are to break into headquarters and search for evidence. Jack tells the group that if anyone is unwilling to do things his way, they should excuse themselves. No one quits. The APO is working rogue.

Marshall and Dixon are at Langley in disguise as part of a group of tourists. Rachel and Thomas are there separately with business to discuss as CIA employees. A guard tells her that her camera phone must be confescated while she is there. She goes to meet with a cleark at Human Resources. Tom goes to meet with the Payroll department about not getting paid.

Peyton searches for Sydney but gets surprised. Syd has her at gunpoint and orders her to be quiet. She explains that she's already radioed for help. Kelly tells Sydney that help won't be coming since Prophet-5's insider had blocked her call. Syd thinks that she's bluffing since doubts that Peyton would ever give away that they have an insider to her. Kelly explains that she doesn't mind telling since Sydney isn't going to get off the ship alive.

Thomas goes to CIA payroll in pretext to findout about missing payments. The clerk tells him that his wife probably took the money. She searches the records and finds something that disturbs her. He tricks the clerk to leave so he can use CIA's computer.
Tom's cellphone has a small dish antenna come out to relay the data out. They find the location of the computer hard drive that was responsible for recording Sydney's SOS. They give Rachel access to the room. Tom then uses the computer to find the man responsible for killing his wife.

In the tour, the guide shows the tourists a coded message that no one has been able to crack. Wanting to cause a distraction, Marshall announces that he's come up with an answer. When everyone stares at him, he explains that he is good with Sudoku puzzles. Slipping away, Marcus takes out a small spray can and sprays at a biohazzard sensor near the ceiling. Alarms sound and guards at the securty station see an Anthrax warning on their computer. The facility is ordered to evacuate.

Tom finds the picture and name of the man responsible. Rachel finds the computer that had Sydney's SOS but reports that the message has been erased from a hard drive. Marshall thinks that he can work on the drive with data recovery programs, but Rachell warns that taking it will trigger alarms. Jack orders her to take the drive anyways. As soon as she disconnects the hard drive, security alarms sound and the CIA goes into lockdown. All doors lock, trapping Tom and her. Dixon and Marshall's tour group are prevented from leaving due to the lockdown. Marshall acts panicked. Dixon calls him 'Hamlet' for being overly dramatic.

Jack has to call in a favour. He telephone Eric Weiss and tells him Sydney is in trouble. Weiss drives to headquarters and uses his CIA credential to gain access. He pretends that Dixon and Marshall are VIPs in order to get them away from the tour group.

Dixon frees Thomas from the records room. Tom gives the story that he took cover in that room and then got locked in. Eric and Marshall go to a computer room and work on getting Rachel out. As Flinkman hacks into the computer, Weiss contacts Agent Gibson and identifies himself as her superior. They warn her how to hide from the guard on patrol by looking at the security feed. Eric guides her to run as fast as she can to a door to escape. The guard hears her running and gives chase. Rachel slams into the door and falls to the floor, stunned. Marshall apologies for not unlocking the door. Rachel recovers and exits the now opened door. The door is relocked, so the guard can't follow. Everyone rendezvous in a basement corridor. Weiss introduces himself to Rachel and then directs the group how to exit the building. He will go erase evidence of them being there. Then Eric jokes "Next time just call."

Sydney and Peyton go to the ship's infirmary. Syd wants to know why the room is full of scans of her baby. Syd gets another big abdominal cramp, so Kelly takes her gun. Sydney passes out.

Sydney wakes to find herself strapped to a bed. A medical technician is doing an ultrasound scan of her abdomen. He finds something disturbing and leaves to get the doctor. Syd sees something strange about her ultrasound of the baby.

Jack and Marshall have determined that the Prophet-5 mole has to be one of 7 CIA directors who have Alpha Black top security clearance. Marshall has the cellphone number of the mole, but doesn't know who it belongs to. Jack sets up a meeting with them to expose him.

Jack holds a meeting with the 7 Alpha Black members and explains one of them is with Prophet 5. Marshall tries to determine which one is the mole through surveilance. Director Devlin is skeptical and tries to call an end to the meeting. Marshall telephones the traitor's cell phone which gives away the chubby man, Director Davenport. Jack draws his pistol and orders him to tell where Sydney is. Security guards try to break into the room. The man plays innocent so Jack beats him, then shoots him in the shoulder. The man confesses that she in on the Ship "Athena. The guards break in and arrest Jack.

Back at the APO Thomas is still searching for info about his wife. He finds that a man named Allen is involved.

Sydney is shocked to find that her own OB/GYN is working for Prophet-5. The doctor is worried about Syd's sonogram so she preforms amniocentesis. The woman extracts Syd's amniotic fluid and sees blood in the fluid. She orders Syd to be prepped for an operation.

Using Jack's information, Rachel helps Marshall with satellite views of possible ships holding Syd. Sloane concludes that the ship they want must be outside normal shipping lanes. So they spot the lone vessel doing that. Dixon and Thomas board a helicopter to rescue Sydney.

Sydney demands to know what is going on. The doctor puts an anesthesia mask over Syd.

Someone has alerted Peyton to the rescue mission. Kelly tells the doctor that they have to leave. The doctor replies that she needs an hour to do the surgery. Peyton then says she has to do it in 40 minutes

As the two rescue helicopters arrive on the ship, no resistance is encountered. Dixon and Grace worry that everyone has left. They separate to search the ship. Tom radios for Marcus to come to the infirmary. He has found Sydney there. We don't know if she still has the baby or not. Syd is put into the helicopter and flown to safety.

Prophet-5 representative Joseph Erhmann telephones Sloane about not informing them about the rescue mission. Arvin makes a feeble excuse. Erhmann says that they own Arvin and use Nadia as their bargaining chip.

Marshall and Rachel discover that Tom has been investigating someone. Thomas meets with the man from the CIA files named The Cardinal. The man calls him Peter. They are speaking in German.

At the military hospital, Jack tells Sydney that the Prophet-5 doctor preformed a surgery to save her baby. Syd had a Placental abruption that endangered the baby and her - the placenta has prematurely torn itself from the wall of the uterus. A man comes in and tells Jack that it is time. He's probably been arrested for shooting the traitor. Sydney is cleared to leave by her military doctor and says that they'll meet at their scheduled appointment next week.

The injured Director Davenport is being transported under escort when they are ambushed. The guards are killed. Davenport comes out with his hands up and gets shot in the leg. As he lies on the street, he is approached by the woman who shot him. It's Irina Derevko. She says that he put Prophet-5 at risk and demands that he tell her what he told Jack. Irina then kills the man.

Sydney is being driven home by Marcus. He jokes that Sydney is in no condition for active duty, "Let's be honest Syd...you waddle." Syd objects, but agrees that she isn't as graceful as she used to be. Dixon then teases that she doesn't waddle, she teeters.

As Director Devlin and a team of CIA agents search the APO, Arvin tells Agent Grace that APO has been ordered to suspend their investigation while the CIA reviews their records. Arvin and Thomas talk in a conspiratorial way.

Jack, Dixon and Sydney have a secret meeting out in the countryside. Jack says that they must do their investigation off record. Syd tells about Prophet-5 capturing her to ask about the chart that Vaughn showed her years ago. She tells that she misdirected them about Leo 47 Norte. Marcus says that that is the code for France. Jack tells her to get Renée to prepare for Dixon arriving in France. Jack asks Syd to go to a Safehouse.

Returning to her house to pack, Sydney is surprised to see her mother sitting in a chair who greets her "Hello Sydney." Syd responds "Mom?" She doesn't realise that her mother was behind her torture onboard the ship since she greets her with a warm embrace. Irina is fishing for information. She asks if Sydney gave the right Horizon information to Prophet-5. Syd telephones Jack to tell that Irina is at the house waiting for him.

Jack arrives and tells Irina that she looks well. She comments on them becoming grandparents. Joke jokes that he is trying to ignore that fact.

In France, Marcus and Renée meets with with Jean Bertrand, an informant, to ask him about 47 Norte. The man pretends not to know, but readies a weapon behind his back. Renée takes the weapon from him. They strap him to the hood of a car and drive to scare him into talking. He does.

Irina wants to go to Vancouver alone to get the Horizon from a bank vault, but Jack wisely will go with her.

Peyton is informed by a henchman that Irina is on her way to Vancouver. The henchman asks if she doubts Irina's loyalty. Peyton says that she doesn't, but she wants to be careful now that they are so close.

Jack, Irina and Sydney are posing as an Italian family at the Vancouver Bank, just at closing time. They say they have a big trust fund check to deposit for Syd's baby.

At APO, Rachel tells Tom not to get involved with man who killed his wife. Thomas confesses that he wanted to kill him, but then he saw the man's wife and children. He apologies for not telling her.

Syd uses her pregnancy as an excuse to stay behind at the bank manager's office while Jack and Irina go to the vault with the manager. The manager calls them good role models. In the vault, Irina takes out a lage syringe hidden in her hair and stabs the manager in the back, apparently knocking him out. Syd gets the location of the horison from the office and tells her parents the information. Irina removes the Horizon from a lockbox. It is a small object about the size a a small book.

Sydney sees Peyton on the manager's security monitor in the bank, so she leaves the room.

Irina tries to stab Jack in the back with the syringe, but he senses the danger and grabs her by the wrist. Sydney comes in to warn that Peyton is coming with a strike team. She doesn't seem very surprised that her mother tried to double cross Jack. Syd then figures out that Irina was behind the glass during her interrogation on the ship. Irina uses the "I'm your mother" excuse. Irina explains that Peyton is there to kill her, not aid her. Jack says that she'll be disappointed that he'll beat her to it. Just then, Sydney the tells them that she's going into labour!

As Devlin and his men investigate the APO records, Sloane and Rachel admit that they have been secretly working with Jack and Syd. Rachel says that she can erase files if Arvin delays them.

Jack asks Irina how she intended to escape. She confesses that she has a helicopter waiting for her signal. She says that she has a beacon hidden in her bra. Sydney says that she can make it to the roof.

One of Peyton's henchmen sees on a monitor that the Bristows are on their way to the roof and warns her. Kelly tells him that she is 6 floors down from them. The three of them make their way to the roof and signal the helicopter. Realising that she can't get to the roof in time, Peyton goes to an office and shoots out its window. She has a LAW rocket and uses it to shoot the helicopter down. Jack, Syd and Irina are trapped. Jack hands Sydney his pistol and tells her to guard her mom. He is going to take on Peyton and her men alone.

Jack kills bad guy and takes his Uzi submachine gun. He is now hunting for Peyton.

Sydney tells her mom "You said 'The Truth Takes Time' years ago. Is this what you meant?" Irina confesses that she didn't want a baby, but the KGB ordered her to so to ensure Jack's loyalty. She was touched by how tiny an fragile Syd was. However, Irina says that she found that she couldn't be a good agent and a good mother, so she chose to be an agent. When Peyton's henchman arrives, Sydney is in no condition to fight due to her contractions. Irina asks for Syd's pistol to shoot him. Syd has no choice but to comply and gives her the handgun. Irina does kill him, then starts to leave. Syd goes into labour, so Irina's maternal instinct kicks in. She decides to stay behind and help her deliver the baby.

Peyton and Jack have found each other and are engaged in a gunfight. She mocks him as "Grandpa" and jokes "I want to buy Syd something on her Registry". Jack can't get a shot at her hinding behind cover, but then he notices a fire extinguisher out in the open near her. Kelly looks down and realises the danger that it places her in, so she tries to move away. Jack fires his Uzi at the extinguisher which explodes like a bomb, catching her in the blast. Jack emerges cautiously and sees Peyton lying motionless on the floor. He concludes that she is dead, so he rushes to see how Sydney is doing. After he leaves, Kelly's hand twitches.

Irina tells Sydney not to push. She explains that the baby is coming out backwards. Irina needs Syd to relax as she maneuvers it out. Jack tells her hold his hand and to think of where she like to be. Sydney thinks about Naughn. Seconds later, Irina tells Syd that she has a girl and hands her the baby. As Jack and Syd look at the baby, Irina escapes. Sydney tells Jack that her mother got away with the Horizon. He assures her that they'll get it back.

As she is walking away, Irina phones Marshall to tell him to provide extraction for Jack and Syd. Marshall asks if she is who he thinks she is. Irina concludes to add that they should bring diapers.

A short time later, Jack and Sydney are flying back to America with the baby onboard a private jet. Syd says that the baby girl looks like Vaughn, then asks if he would like to hold his granddaughter. She gives the baby to Jack and gets a tender look as he holds his granddaughter lovingly in his arms. Syd asks Jack to take care of something. He says that he will.

Somewhere on a bleak mountain steppes of Bhutan, a man on horseback rides to a monestery. He conveys to the abbot an urgent message. The abbot tells a man "You have a baby girl." We see that he is talking to Naughn, who is still recovering from being turned into Swiss Cheese.
