Season 4 Quick Summary for Ep 4.06 - Nocturne

Since it takes me days to come up with my Descriptive Summary, I'm going to have a brief one up for now.

We start in an Amsterdam University where a woman teacher starts to freaks out after hearing a student's cell phone ring in class. The student she accuses of having the ringing phone is confused because her phone isn't ringing. The professor is apparently hallucinating and goes out into the hall. There she sees two men with guns in front and behind her. The teacher takes out her own pistol. A student walks out to see if she is okay. The woman realises that she is hallucinating and sticks the gun under her chin. She commits suicide.

The following scene has Vaughn and Sydney at a hockey rink. He is trying to teach her how to shoot. Vaughn says that he used to play defense, but then got moved up to play center. Vaughn asks her why she wants to take things slow in their relationship. Syd is hesitant to answer, but then their cell phones ring to summon then to the APO.

At the APO we learn that the professor was an operative investigating a new designer drug. It is assumed that she was exposed to some new drug that lead to her killing herself. Her husband who is also an agent is missing. Sloane sends Syd and Jack to find him and any materials relating to the drug case.

When they arrive at the couple's appartment at night, the unit is dark and all of the lightbulbs have been removed. Sydney finds a secret locked door that leads to a secret passageway. She sees papers with strange notes and diagrams on the wall. Syd gets attacked by a crazy man, who bites her in the neck. Jack arrives and kills the man with a single gunshot. The man collapses on top of Syd and spills lots of his blood on her.

Sydney gets a CAT scan and Dr. Jain tells Jack and her that they think that she's fine. The spy couple, the Cahills, had enlarged Pineal glands and high levels of melatonin from some drug exposure.

Sydney is sent home to recover. But when Sydney goes home she has difficulty sleeping. She starts hallucinating seeing a spider by a medicine bottle. She takes out a digital thermometer but before she can take her temperature Nadia and Weiss come into the house having a good time. Seeing that she is up they ask Syd if they disturbed her. Syd just says that she's having a hard time sleeping. As she is holding the thermometer, she see it says 111F and then 116F which is impossibly high. She doesn't say anything about it. Noticing how Weiss has removed his jacket, Sydney asks if he is staying (for the night!). Weiss says no, then asks Nadia if he's saying. She smiles and says 'No'. Weiss jokes that he was close!

The next morning at the APO, the team learns that the dead agents contact was called "The Count" and there is a meeting in Bucharest scheduled. Sloane orders Sydney to meet with 'The Count' in the man's place and find out what he knows about the drug that affected them. Dixon objects and tells Sloane that it is a tactical error to send Sydney on a mission after her attack.

Sydney tries to ask Marshall about delayed reactions to the drug, without saying that she's having troubles. Marshall then gets a phone call from his wife Carrie and baby Mitchell. This distacts him from dealing with Syd. Sydney gets a headache in front of Nadia. Nadia wants Syd to tell the doctor about the problems that she was having. Syd says that she doesn't want to because she be taken off duty. Nadia says that if Syd doesn't tell, then she will. But Syd insists and Nadia reluctantly gives in.

Syd insists that she's fine. Sloane is displeased that Dixon contradicted him in the meeting. Sloane later takes Dixon aside to tell him that he never suspected that SD-6 were the bad guys. The suggestion is that Dixon wasn't perceptive or intelligent enough. Dixon doesn't like that. Sloane says Dixon should do his job and leave Sloane to do his own job.

Jack, Vaughn and Sydney are getting prepared for their mission in a hotel. Sydney hallucinates that her cup of tea has a tarantula in it, so drops it. She imagines that she spills blood. Sloane says Dixon should do his job and leave Sloane to do his own job. all over herself. Instead of telling them what she thought that she saw, she said she was surprised that it was too hot to drink. After she leaves to clean up, Jack tells Vaughn that she shouldn't be left alone.

At the Bucharest nightclub, Sydney meets the 'Count' and says that they have a friend in common. He tries to dismiss her, but she then gives the agent's name. He tells her to count to 10 and then meet him on the balcony. On the way, Syd imagines seeing Vaughn making out with a woman. The Count doesn't trust Syd and draws a pistol. Syd tells him that the agents have died from the drug and wants him to tell what he knows. He knocks her out with his gun and flees. Vaughn come to help, catching him in the corridor and knock him out.

As they are interrogating the Count, Syd gets a call from Marshall telling that she was correct about delayed reaction to the drug. He asks her if she is having problems, but she says that she's okay. Syd gets more hallicinations, this time of the Count loading a revolver and then shooting himself. The Count admits to obtaining from an associate a drug called 'Nocturne' that was like "Speed' that was made in the Eastern Bloc. Sydney imagines that the Count tells her that she is dying, then shoots himself in the mouth. Syd flinches and the others notice, but she says that she's fine.

During a videoconference with Sloane and Dr. Jain, Sydney imagines that Sloane is telling her that he is wearing through her defenses and gaining her trust. He says they both know that he will betray her and everyone that she loves will die. Syd gets up and chokes the Count, telling him that she was bitten by Cahill to force him to reveal the truth. The man admits that he didn't provide a sample of Nocturne to Cahill, but instead gave him an early unsafe prototype that goes through the skin. Everyone realises that Syd is affected now. He said that he did it for the money. All he knows is that it comes from Prague in the Czech Republic.

Weiss and Nadia figure out that the last words that Mrs Cahill said was the name of Grappig Group. They deduce that a chemist named Latuza invented the Nocturn and the protype.

Sloane tells Jack that even if they had a sample of the drug, they won't have enough time to manufacture their own antidote. Vaughn rationalises Latuza already made an antidote once they discovered their bad version of Nocturne. They are going to Prague to find it.

Inside a van outside of Latuza's lab, Sydney imagines hearing Jack and Vaughn talking about her not being as trustworthy as her mother, and that they plan on killing her. Vaughn leaves for Latuza's office on the 6th floor. Syd hides a knife up her sleeve moments before she imagines Jack pointing his pistol at her. She asks Jack if they have tranquilizers and when he says that they don't, Syd tells him that she should be tied up. Syd asks if she's going to be alright, and Jack assures her that she will. But then she asks what if she doesn't recover. She then imagines that Jack says that he hates how her voice reminds him of her mother's voice. And how tormented he is that every time he looks at Syd, her face reminds him of her mother too. Syd cries that this can't be true. Jack tells her to look into his eyes, but she imagines that he says that they will be the last thing that she'll ever see. She imagines Jack say that her mother killed him, so he'll kill Syd. Syd cries that she won't let him. She begs Jack for a hug. After he comforts her, Syd head butts him to the floor and kicks him unconsciousness. She slips the knife out and cuts herself free.

Inside Latuza's office Vaughn discovers a hidden refrigerator containing vials. He finds the antidote and heads back for the van. Vaughn discovers the van is empty, and then hears Sydney calling for help. Going out to the alley, Vaughn sees Sydney crying that she thinks that she's killed her father. Jack is lying against a wall, motionless. Syd blends down to check on Jack and draws Jack's gun. She orders him to get on his knees. Vaughn tries to explain that he has the antidote, but she tells him not to lie to her. Sydney says that this is a game to him. A cruel joke made at her expense! He asks her what she's afraid of. She explains that she's afraid that he will betray her again like when he married Lauren. He asks her for the gun, and when he doesn't stay back, she pulls the trigger twice. The gun doesn't fire. They get into a fight which she is winning as he is only fighting defensively. She finds a metal pipe and knock him to the ground. Just as she's about to finish him off, Jack comes up from behind and renders her unconscious with a choke hold. Jack explains that it was a reasonable precaution to empty his gun because of Syd's condition. Vaughn then gives her an injection of the antidote.

In Los Angeles, Sloane says to the team that Sydney is recovering and that Interpol has closed down the lab of Dr. Latuza and dismantle the Nocturne program. After the debriefing, Sloan apologises to Dixon for the "tactical error". Dixon explains that he wanted to say this earlier, but he expected to be fired for saying it, so he didn't want to leave Sydney out in the field without his help. Dixon explains that his only failure was not imagining that a person could be as toxic as Sloane. He vows that he'll never do that again. Dixon says that Sloane wants everyone to believe that he is reformed for the sake of his daughter. But he'll be waiting on that inevitable day when Sloane reveals his true motive. Sloane has a calculating look on his face after Dixon leaves.

In her sick bed, Sydney apologises to Vaughn for what she said and what she done. Vaughn excuses her for not being herself. She leans forward and gives him a little kiss. They give each other weak little smiles. Syd sees a spider and wonders if it another hallucination. Vaughn picks it up and says that his father liked spiders and said that it is a sign of good luck. He tells her to get some rest and leaves.
