'Range Anxiety' - Electric car test run

Even though the government here in the UK doesn't know precisely how many publicly available electric car charging points there are at gas stations, one journalist is going to see if he can get from London to Edinburgh by electric car, and he's using the iconic Mini.

Mini adventure: how far can an electric car go?

Not entirely sure about the number of days he has planned to get between the points. I'd expect to do them within one day. I'd even choose to use the train actually, but the most worrying thought running through my head right now, comes from my arts and humanities background and how, just maybe, a 19th century horse and carriage method might be faster than the plan this guy has put into place!!

But between Northumberland and Edinburgh it will be a significant challenge.
"The gap is 87 miles," he says, "which is more than the range of your car.
"Ideally you need another charging post halfway between the two. Otherwise you are going to suffer range anxiety."
From where I'm about to sit, that's a serious understatement.
