Recent DMCA Notices Received

After a relaxing long weekend I started my day today by getting alerts from Google of two different DMCA notices submitted against us.

And, yep, sure enough, both of the URLs have no offending content.
It's a perfect example of the "shoot first, never ask questions" mentality of how DMCA notices are abused today by companies who use 'bots' to scan for things, like a movie title or TV show name, and then issue a notice with no human intervention. Any human looking at those URLs would see that those are discussions about the movie or TV show and the only videos are YouTube trailers.

For those who have not had to deal with a DMCA notice, what happens is a notice with URLs is sent to providers like Google & Bing who will almost immediately remove access to the URLs and then the only recourse is for the site owner to submit an appeal. When submitting the appeal there is no process for how long it'll take for the appeal to reviewed nor any additional actions you can take. And if the appeal finds in your favor? There is zero penalty for the companies that are submitting false notices. None.

Oh, and of course, if you get too many notices there is a chance that site could be delisted entirely from Google or Bing or even have service providers shut the site down.

... woke up today to get another one, and, unsurprisingly, from "Marketly" again.

This time they submitted a DMCA for the thread about Star Trek: Discovery.

Now while I can understand why they wouldn't want anybody talking about that show it's pretty annoying to have to deal with getting removed from Google because of obviously false DMCA notices.
