Movies Recommend A Movie: Scary Halloween Month Favs

Tom

An Old Friend
Everybody knows that the Halloween Series of movies are supposed to be played during October.
Just like the Friday the 13th movies het played over Friday the 13th weekends.

What movies do YOU recommend for October?

Halloween ( the original with Jamie Lee Curtis) of course, Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2 , Dark Night Of The Scarecrow (old movie but really good), A Nightmare On Elm Street( The original, not the reboot) The Fog, Stephen Kings' Silver Bullet and Pumpkin Head. That's all I can think of right now. Always on my Halloween list.

I liked Halloween III Season of the Witch. more of a thinking movie than a blood/gore movie.
The original Kolchak tv movie (sequel, Night Strangler, is great, as is the series; see avatar)
'Curse of the Demon', very atmospheric, in glorious black and white!

I've screened a few movies lately that are not too bad in the creepy video department.

The Wicked Within (2015) was pretty decent for a possession movie. Not a Halloween Setting but very creepy.

Hellions (2015) Is a Halloween setting but it involves demon children and is also very creepy

RL Stein's Monsterville Cabinet of Souls (2015) is low horror kids type movie but it plays well for most age groups.

I recently watched all three Insidious movies back to back. 1 & 2 I thought were pretty good and were interconnected but 3 was completely unnecessary.
Insidious Chapter 1 (2010)
Insidious Chapter 2 (2013)
Insidious Chapter 3 (2015)

The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2009) wasn't very creepy for me
but watching it with the sequel makes it better.
The Exorcism of Molly Hartley (2015)

The Vatican Tapes (2015) was a good creepy movie

Fire City End Days (2015) was a fun look at misery thru the eyes of demons. Can a demon find redemption?

Ghostline (2015) is a play on the old style ghost story. I thought it was fairly well acted and easy to follow. Not a lot of graphics but the ones they had were effective.

Those are some of the movies I have recently screened but some of the BEST Halloween fodder is back in my archives. Old favorites that peek out of the darkness every so often just to give me the willies. Which reminds me... That old hokey movie The Willies (1990)

The Prophecy 1 (1995)

The Prophecy 3 – The Ascent (2000) The remaining two movies are just fillers

Well, I can go on & on but that will get you started...To Be Continued

Dracula ( with Frank Langella), Salem's Lot. Fallen, The First Power, Wrong Turn, Scream. Serpent & The Rainbow, The Believers. For me some of the best horror films are the 1's without graphic violence & carnage, those Dracula and Salem's Lot which I mentioned. Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman was good but just too much for me and weird.

(spoiler alert) Yes, Halloween III plot featured a meteorite-based chip in the masks that would go pop when Silver Shamrock played their commercial for the big prize thing on Halloween night.
Great (in a low-key way) scene where the intrepid hero sits for a chat with the impeccably elegant Dan O'Herlihy, who calmly explains what's going to happen and why. ('The hills ran red...with the blood...of children...and animals...')
"Happy happy halloween
halloween halloween
happy happy halloween
Silver Shamrock!"

Absolutely! I much prefer the suspense type horror movies over the gore movies. It's one of the reasons why I like the older stuff, say about mid 80's and back, versus the newer horror movies. A movie that tempts me to fast forward because I can't wait to see what happens next is always a more enjoyable experience for me versus a movie that I do fast forward because I'm skipping over the gore scenes.

I think I have seen so many movies it doesn't affect me anymore - There was a time that I didn't like horror movies at all - esp the slashers that played at Halloween.
Since Halloween has to do with monsters - I prefer monster movies at Halloween.

Exactly. I have nothing else to add.

Fright Night ( The original) is the best, however I recently watched Fright Night reboot with Colin Farrell, it was okay and decent, I don't really care for him and it was to me darker but I watched it all the way through.
