Sarah McLachlan

I've been listening to clips of all three and I definetly like 'em all. "Surfacing" has more songs I'm familiar with but FTE really looks good too. I think I probably will get Mirrorball to start out with. Also, how do you guys think her newest one (Afterglow, I'm pretty sure its called) stacks up to the rest?

Afterglow is definitely a great CD, but not as good as some of her others. I'm all for FTE and it has more songs I like, but I do like Afterglow. Just get what you feel like getting, Andy!

Alright, I'm gonna go for "Surfacing" first. Seems like that's a good one for me. Thanks for your help all! (I cant wait to get them all  :P)

I heard her music over the years and really liked it. Recently though I been listening to it more closely and found she's just plain amazing. I dont even have any albums of hers (aside from a select few songs off itunes and such). I really want to get some of albums, any suggestions on which ones to start?
[post="1281760"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
If you could only get one, I would pick "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy". I think it's the best album released of any artist in the past 15 years, period. Just my opinion.

AHhhh! KAT! Me too! :o_O: Sarah is playing a few hours away from me too! Fresno to be exact! COME BACK TO SAN JOSE! Or San Francisco at least! Bloody two hours and humph.. If I were 18 I'd go there. and u know what stinks, I've known about this concert since JANUARY.

Andy, Surfacing is a good choice. But if I were you I would start with FTE. Me, I started with her latest, Afterglow, cuz that was all I knew. But then I fried suggested I get FTE. I found a good deal on Amazon to get FTE and Surfacing so I got both. At first, I liked Surfacing better than FTE but now, I think FTE is the best album I have in my whole collection. Just my opinion.

Which Sarah CD, do u have, Kat? I have Solace, FTE, Surfacing, Mirrorball, Afterglow and Afterglow Live. I need The Freedom Sessions and Rarities, B-sides and Other Stuff.

Julesters, wow that's so cool! I wanna see Sarah... It'd be a DREAM too. OMG dude i heard this thing on the radio to win tickets to see sarah in NYC! But i think it's over now.. :depressed: i'm gonna find out if it is or isn't later.

I was looking but I couldnt find FTE or Mirrorball at the stores I went to but I did find Surfacing. I've only skimmed through the tracks but I really love what I've heard so far. "Angel" is an incredible song, wow.

Also, I think I heard somewhere she's taking a break but I saw she has tour dates through middle of May I believe. Anyone know whats going on after that? Mabye somewhere close to Wisconsin? Heehee :D .

It just isn't fair :'(

Sarah's taking another break after she finishes of this tour :depressed: we wanted her back in Belgium :(

TORONTO -- Sarah McLachlan is about to pull another disappearing act.

First, the folk-pop songstress with the famously ethereal voice will play the final leg of her current concert tour. But after that, she insists she's going underground. "This is it folks," McLachlan says with a laugh over the phone from the west coast of Vancouver Island, where she was enjoying a few days off this week.

"There are no more tours booked for the next couple of years... I'm going to just go home and have some time off."

The new slate of shows is set to kick off in Victoria next week, with dates scheduled across the United States and Canada.

She's looking forward to getting back on stage, but McLachlan is also candid about the challenge of balancing the tour with the job of raising daughter India, who turns three this this week and accompanies her singing mother on the road.

"Some days I'm really good at it, other days I fall on my face," she says.

"It's tough. It makes for a long day. But I love playing and I love being a mom as well and I'm very lucky that I get to do both."

McLachlan has been out on the road for almost two years now promoting her Grammy-nominated album Afterglow and makes it no secret that she and her husband -- drummer Ashwin Sood -- want to concentrate on expanding their Vancouver-based family.

"Definitely," says the 37-year-old chanteuse.

After bursting onto the scene with 1988's Touch, McLachlan went on to phenomenal success, appearing on the cover of Time magazine and creating the Lilith concert tour, which became a popular showcase for female singer/songwriters.

By 1999, she was ready for a break. The hiatus turned out to be life-changing as the singer dealt with the death of her mother and gave birth to India.

It also rejuvenated her creative spirit -- something McLachlan hopes to do again when she takes time off after the Afterglow tour.

Writing, McLachlan says, "takes such a huge amount of focus and energy" that it's something she doesn't have time for on the road.

What she finally does have time for these days is listening to music for pleasure - thanks to her trusty IPod.

"Quite frankly, it's brought me back to music," she says of the hugely popular mini-jukeboxes.

"I had stopped listening to music for years. I used to listen to my Walkman all the time, and I just got out of the habit.... having the iPod, it's like getting excited about music again. Thinking about old songs I want to put on it... I love listening to it."

The upcoming tour will also be a homecoming, of sorts, when it stops in Halifax on June 1.

McLachlan was born in the East Coast city, but hasn't played there for more than 10 years.

"That's going to be wild. It's been a long time," she says.

"I lived there 18 years -- that's a big part of my life.... It's a beautiful, beautiful part of the world so I am really looking forward to going back there."

Ah man, thats a real bummer :(... I was really hoping to get a chance to see her. 2 years......I don't know if I can wait that long (n) :( :( .

That's good that she's taking time off for her family though, seems she deserves it. We'll be waiting for the next album/ tour, whenever it may come !

Sarah has a "new" album coming out in September ... it's not really a new one... it's "Remixed Vol: 2"

songs:

"Answer" (Talving Singh Mix)
"World On Fire" (Junkie XL Club Mix)
"Ice" (Dusted Mix)
"Cat's in the Cradle" (Will-i-M mix) - of the Black Eyed Peas, DMC ft Sarah
"Dirty Little Secret" (Theivery Corporation Mix)
"Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" (Junior Boys Remix)
"Train Wreck" (Sly & Robbie Mix)
"Fallen" (Gabriel & Dresden Anti-Gravity Mix)
"Stupid" (Hyper Mix)
"Vox" (Tom Middleton Mix)

Other Sarah news... She re-wrote/recorded "World On Fire" as a duet with Robbe Robertson for the new TNT limited series "Into The West"

the preshow of Sarah's US/Canadian tour will be The Perishers... Sarah will sing a duet with on the tour, the song is called "Pills"

Sarah's ill, unfortunatly, so she had to cancel 2 shows of her new tour: 12th & 13th of April... new dates for these shows will be announced shortly!

It's strange ... there must be a flue or something Down Under 'cause Butterfly posted on her site that she has a terrible cold as well, and y'all know Butterfly was preshowing for Sarah at her Austrlian tour

oh god remixed 2??? the only album i don't have of hers is Remixed...oh and the freedom sessions..cos it costs a fortune. what is interesting though is Talvin Singh has remixed Answer and i lover Talvin Singh...man is a genius...might actually be decent

This might sound a little weird but whenever I listen to her songs, they stay with me...Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I'll listen to one of her albums and just be thinking about certain songs they're so good...I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else when they first listened to her. I think it's weird cause it's the first time I've found an artist that could do that.

Damn, why must she stop touring for a few years!!!! Baa.

And Erika, I have Afterglow:Live, Afterglow, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, and Surfacing. But I need to get more.

Welcome to the Magical World of Miss McLachlan... Sarah just has that effect on people... once you heard her she's with you for ever and ever

I have: Surfacing, Mirrorball, B sids-Rarities and other stuff, Afterglow & Afterglow: Live

:hmm: I just thought of something annoying. Last night would have been the time I would have seen Sarah. Stupid school and stupid no driver's license.

I have Surfacing, Fumbling Toward Ecstasy (sp?) Afterglow and im in the process of getting Afterglow: Live. Its a money thing.....
i only recently got Afterglow (its a money thing....) and i just LOVE it!! My faves are "World on Fire," "Time" and "Answer." They just seriously rock.
She has such an amazong voice. I love all of her songs, for that reason alone. Her voice could just carry a song, no matter how s***e it is, ya know? Am i making sense?

*wanders off to listen to "World on Fire" for the like, 10 billionth time in a row*

I know what you mean! Cool thing is though, she's not one to sing bad songs ever :D !

Not that my opinion means much :P but heres a little review of my thoughts on FTE...

-Possession: One of my favorite Sarah songs. Beautifully sung and great lyrics. 10/10
-Wait: One of the best on the album! I love this song so much! 10/10
-Plenty: Good, solid track. 8/10
-Good Enough: Very beautiful song. Love the lyrics. 9/10
-Mary: One of the songs that got me interested in the album. Very catchy song! 9/10
-Elsewhere: Another standout track. Love the vocals so much! 10/10
-Circle: Another catchy song. Great lyrics. 9/10
-Ice: Very sad song. Great, moody feel. 9/10
-Hold On: Another beautiful, sad song. Love it. 10/10
-Ice Cream: Least favorite track. I was waiting for the third verse saying "Your love, is better than chocolate ice cream"....Sorry for that  . Still, Sarah's vocals make it solid regardless. 7/10
-Fear: WOW. Hands down my favorite on the album and my favorite Sarah song in general. 11/10 heehee :D
-Fumbling Toward Ecstasy: Superb song, beautifully sung and great lyrics. Extraordinary way to end the album.
-Also, the different version of Possession: Same great song, more intimate feeling. 10/10 but I like this version better.

FTE: 10/10. You hear everyone talk about how great it is but can never really know until you check it out. Wow...simply amazing :D .
