Quote:
By the mid-21st Century, humankind has colonized the oceans and formed the UEO--the United Earth Oceans--as a military organization to police it. Formerly a high-ranking member of the UEO, Nathan Bridger retired after the death of his wife, and retreated to an isolated island to study dolphins. An attempt is made to hijack the Seaquest DSV, the UEO's most powerful undersea vessel, and Nathan--its original designer--is convinced to return to active service, to assume command of it. His second in command is Cmdr. Jonathan Ford. In second season, the DSV added Dagwood, a prototype GELF (Genetically Engineered Life Form), Tony Piccolo, a man with surgically implanted gills, and Dr. Wendy Smith, a telepath/empath, to its crew of specialists. The series has New Age leanings, often presenting stories that deal with environmental issues or mix myth and mysticism--from ghosts to "gods"--into its science fiction.

SeaQuest DSV was one of those, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" type sci-fi series........the first season was good, but seasons 2 and 3 went downhill in a hurry....

For the most part SeaQuest suffered from the same problem that the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation did... that the 'boy genius' can solve anything! That younger fans will will tune in! That each episode has to deal with an actual problem from our society! That there has to be a gimmick (android vs. talking dolphin)!

TNG was able to get better with age but SeaQuest just stayed in the same mode of story telling until the very end.

I watched the first season but lost intrest in the second, didn't even know there was a 3rd till recently. I'll probably stream it to see if I missed anything.

I don't think you missed much. If you're already seen the episodes where the "Dagwood" character was added, it only goes downhill from there.

I just finished the 1st Season of this show. Hadn't seen it since I watched it on first run on TV. I felt and still feel Season 1 is the best of the three. I also noted appearances by many actors and actresses in the genre. Charlton Heston, Tim Russ and William Shatner to name a few.

Did/Does anyone else here like the first season of Seaquest?

Did/Does anyone else here like the first season of Seaquest?
I did as well. But, at the start of the second season, with the addition of characters like Dagwood, it seems that they went in a different direction. I think the show started with good intentions of being a decent sci-fi show set underwater but it morphed, thanks to Lucas, characters like Dagwood & the psychic, and over reliance on the dolphin, into a generic "rely upon some gimmick" show.

Yes, I agree.
There were a few episodes that had great potential but it went downhill fast in the 2nd season

While I enjoyed remenicing over season one I just can't see paying anything for that show. Since it is widely available on the streaming networks I just watched them from my wife's smartphone.
I can watch just about anything I want anytime. I know its silly to want my money for things like food, electricity, water and rent but I am broke. I got sick and lost my job 5 years ago and without insurance there is no meds to get better. The only extravagance I enjoy is an internet connection. If you can afford to buy old low grade TV series on DVD then have a great collecting experience. I do fine on $0 budget.

Well I have order SeaQuest Season 1 & 2 from Amazon.co.uk for a Grand Total: £16.49 :D
The Amazon UK prices for season 1 & season 2 are a heck of a lot cheaper than their US counterparts! :o_O: If those were region 1 DVDs instead of region 2, I would be a little tempted to see if I could get somebody to ship them over.

For the most part, I agree. It is why normally I don't buy DVDs but rather take advantage of the entry-level Netflix plan which allows for one-at-a-time DVD rental but also includes unlimited streaming which I utilizes fully on our X-Box. Even with my lowly DSL connection the movies look great streamed. Most of the boxed sets I have were gifts (including one of my favorites, the original Battlestar Galactica boxed set in a box shaped like the head of an original Cylon; was a nice gift from my brother).

My son got a rack of Netflix free membership cards. I put one on the xbox but the streaming selection is very limited when concerning the good movies. I can find most of the selections on Hulu, Crackle and YouTube.
I had Netflix when they first started out and I liked it then but there were also movie rental stores on every corner. I can't count how many movies I rented while I was working. When I got sick I had to cancel my Netflix and a few other non-necessities. It was shear boredom that drove me to seek out streaming media. I had satelite DirecTV for a few years as well. Lost that too. I went about a year conflicted over the legalities and dangers of streaming. It wasn't till I realized that I am not attempting to sell or claim anything. Just viewing my internet connection. I paid for that. Unlimited High Speed Internet. Technically I am renting everything I view on the internet as long as I don't download and try to sell it. I don't.

I have bookmarks to sites that stream just about everything I could ask for. Since I am not into porn I don't worry too much about viruses and spyware. Of coarse I only stream at sites that offer the content with no obligation. If I have to download their player or fill out a survey its a no-go. I have my codecs and players on bookmark and keep them updated regularly. Its all free. Flash, Divx and Quicktime is about all you need. DDShow Codec pack takes care of the codecs. I just find the title I want to see and click and watch.

On top of all that, I watch my TV shows 1 day late. But I go to CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox to name a few and they offer the episodes streaming as well. You just get the commercials is all. SciFi, Spike, TBS, TNT, Lifetime & AMC as well. Then You have the Science and Documentaries channels but most of those give the shows to you in clips. I use Documentary Heaven for keeping up with my Documentaries. They stream mostly Youtube in multipart playlists.

I used to collect movies and TV sets in VHS. When I thought about switching everything to DVD I realized I was being had. I had LP, 8-Track and Cassette on music collections. When CDs came out I realized I was being had. Now, I figure CDs and DVDs will be phased out for chips, USB and Streams. I can hear any song or see any movie or tv show for the cost of a monthly connection to the internet. I have since sold 90% of my media collections. I've transfered and uploaded my home movies to my websites and I have converted my CDs to mp3.
I collect Hard Drives and external HD enclosures now. 4TB and climbing.

My brother & I used to both purchase the Columbia House collection of Star Trek series.... on VHS. Yep, we were suckers. Now the only box sets I buy are either stuff that I know that I'll watch multiple times (like the Peanuts DVD box set of their holiday shows that has become a holiday viewing tradition (y)) or sets that I know that the Mrs. really wants (eg: she really wanted the M*A*S*H set and I got it a great price). Other than that the only other sets are ones that people give me (like the BSG set from my brother). My days of buying movies & TV shows simply because I like them are long gone.

I loved it.

So last night I was working on a bit code and launched S1 of SeaQuest DSV on Netflix in the background.

I... I should've read this thread first to remind myself not to watch it.
