An Old Friend
http://blastr.com/2011/05/1st-trailer-for-koreas-3d.phpOne possible reason for escalating gas prices? Rampaging monsters stalking crew members on oil rigs. For proof, here's the new teaser for Sector 7, a cool Korean 3-D creature flick coming this summer that aims for the throat.
Isolated drilling platforms on the high seas seem like a natural choice for tentacled behemoths from the deep to set up housekeeping. Little-known director Kim Ji-hoon spent two years on his big-budget creature feature that hits South Korea's theaters August 4th—and from the tense trailer he just may have a sleeper.
South Korea has become a hotbed of interesting sci-fi and horror lately, cranking out frightful offerings like Cello, The Red Shoes, and the surprise international hit, The Host. Sure, there's plenty of Deep Star 6, Leviathan and The Abyss mixed into Sector 7's old-fashioned cocktail, but it sure looks like some good wet fun. Plus, having a scary-looking, murderous fanged amphibian never hurts.
The film was pre-sold to four countries before its release, so expect a North American DVD/Blu-release soon. The cast includes Ha Ji-won, Ahn Seong-gi and Oh Ji-ho.
Here's the official synopsis:
In Sector 7, an underwater oil field located south of Jeju Island, Hae-jun is working as a marine equipment manager on an oil prospecting ship called Eclipse. Joining the crew is Jeong-man, a former colleague of Hae-jun's father, assigned to Eclipse as captain. Though his job is to oversee the withdrawal of the ship, he suggests conducting some drilling one last time. After 3 weeks of preparation, Hae-jun takes new recruit underwater, but he sinks to the bottom of the sea when his equipment fails. Shortly after, crew members begin to turn up dead, one by one, their bodies viciously mutilated. What the few survivors soon discover is a transparent underwater creature they encountered once before. The viral monster infiltrated the ship through the drilling pipe and has been feeding on the crew to survive. For Hae-jun and his colleagues, a fight for their lives begins.
