Tom
An Old Friend
Aside from the never-ending remakes and reboots there also seems to be a never-ending supply of sequels, prequels and unnecessary side/backstory movies. Anything which does well in the box office is now game for multiple takes of the same story.
I mean, look at The Joker (2019).
The Joker was a foe of Batman. Not even a constant foe, but he did reappear in in multiple episodes and in some of the movies but he is a plot device character, not the focus, Batman was the focus.
Part of the Joker threat is how insane he can be. We don't need a backstory explaining how he got that way.
I don't want to know his life story. Its not meant to be the focus of the Batman Universe.
Then you have the Joker's girlfriend, Harley Quinn. I never heard of her before the 1st Suicide Squad and I certainly don't need to learn HER backstory!
So, this thread is about upcoming sequels, prequels and those backstory movies.
Sometimes they can be pretty good, sometimes they are obviously Hollymoney's plan to get richer.
Meanwhile, we public are forced to choose which to watch because they seem to refuse to produce (and release) new films or new films which are based on really good stories.
Some of those ignored stories could support a series of films.
Look at Dune.
Yeah, Dune has a couple of films and a mini-series but they are telling the same story over and over again.
The Dune novel series has many books worth turning into movies yet they focus on one story because we keep settling for the same ole same ole with new faces and better graphics.
I mean, c'mon!
