Should there be evil players as well or not?

Should HJ have evil players as well?

Darn, I have been pwn'd...

Yer second official Welcome to Hero's Hall?

*maneuvers*

Family movie night. Time to go watch "Night at the Museum". See you all in the morn.. I want everyone up at 8:00am sharp and report to Hero's Hall for further instructions on how to enjoy the rest of your day.

Or ELSE!!!

I've always enjoyed playing the "evil" variety... with the RP perspective that everyone else is evil/crazy, and i'm the sane one. Its perfectly normal to want to kill someone because he/she looked at you wrong. Babies are a delicacy to some, and delicate old people are killed to keep the rest of civilization strong. Nothing wrong with that thinking at all.. its all those touchy-feely tree huggers that are insane, not me!

On that note, I'm hoping they'll introduce a better "non-humanoid" race selection than just cats. I noticed in one of their other games with this same world, they had the lizard and wolf types... I'd love to play either one, but cats, no thanks.

It's so cool, one of the theaters near where we live had some recent movies for 1.00 a ticket, so my boyfriend and I went with his mom and siblings and her friend and her two kids.

So we ended up seeing two movies that night too. Night at the Museum and the 007 Casino Royale or whatever it is.

You know, I miss second run theaters. We used to have one near us that finally closed, free popcorn, small, always nice crowd, $1.00 admission, wednesdays was Ladies night .75 cents etc.

Evil players? Yeah, some people are evil, and some of those people will play HJ...

Of course, as far as evil PCs go, I really don't care. I might have an evil character (if allowed, and the lore of said characer allowed it) but it's not my preference. Good characters can do oh-so-much more, at least in public, while evil types are often harassed.

... Then again, that's the way it should be - but since most MMOs I've played so far have been more about gameplay than roleplay, being a completely evil character was meaningless outside an RP group/guild.

I don't normally play evil characters either. But you reminded me of someone trying to tempt me to the darkside in SWG long ago. We had a long standing, push-pull thing going on with it as I would also try to convince them to become rebel etc.

To the greater extent I didn't like the way EQ2 did this. A player on the "good" side could not go into the other city and vise-versa. None of the quest allowed you to cross into each other's zones either (if I remember correctly).

Unless you defected (a long process) and it was rare to find 'betrayers', guildies, friends etc would have to plan on meeting up in one or the other's area. It was basically too much seperation between the two sides.

It can be a very fun thing though to have that type of seeming natural good vs evil game dynamic going on between ingame friends, RP and guild stuff when they can still see each other regularly and are not seperated like that.

That's the one I'll likely play, at least once. That, and a real smarmy son of a cobbler. Heh. Gotta play one that comes naturally, anyway. That's why a crazy character's got to be thrown into the mix, as well. Cryptic, maniacal, in possession of a serious god complex, and at times a bit sadistic. Mm-mm egg rollz, biotch! :^O *cackle, fade to black*

Nevermind, tis what I get for posting right after I wake up...

Read the first page, thought it was the last. /sigh

Evil characters will definatly add some flavor to the game. It wouldnt be right without a good balance but Kuzzle said it Best. I want to see villans who love egg rolls.

Just like GMs having fairs and merchants (Juggernaut anyone?), along with 'special content' comes invasions, special quests, storylined mass quests (Spike the War Rat LOL)...

The GMs do a very good job of the villians. They pose invasions of towns that are real crazy. I don't see HJ being any different. There will be plenty of strife to overcome without the need of faction vs. faction violence.

I can remember some real great PvGM invasions that were very very tough to get through without losing too many deeds (dieing too many times). You had to find the right way to kill them, then exploit it as much as possible.

Besides, they have their paws on more 'cool' controls and crazy pitfalls than other players do. They really are just like GMs in table-top games. They keep the game interesting and fun. They reward you when you do a good job, and smite you when you don't play by the rules (scripting etc).

By the Gods, YES! There has to not only be actual Evil aligned NPCs but players too!'

I know I am going to be one of them. :D Oh, and I love egg rolls.

If I play the character I most recently drew, I want to be afraid that she'll be cornered in a dark alley while taking a walk..

Villains and cut throats!

Despite the overwhelming number of "yes" votes, I'm still against evil characters.

My reason is still that true evil is very different from greed or violence or wanton destruction. Evil is not the lack of good deeds, or even someone doing something bad like mugging or murdering. It is the antithesis of good. To have players "aligned with evil" in the game would mean that they must be actively seeking the destruction of the world, since everyone else is seeking to redeem or at least stabilize it. Or they would be working against law and order (not just breaking laws, but trying to collapse society). I'm all for murder and violence and theft and bullying, but I really don't see the need for a faction of players out there trying to bring down the carefully constructed society that Simu has put so much time into making.

Even the most heroic of characters occasionally steal and or murder, bully, mug, or otherwise break codes of morality. So to play an evil character, one must go far beyond such acts.

They simply would not fit in with the structure of the game and would ruin much of the flavor.

I think it really depends on how someone sees "evil".

I see it as someone who is self-serving at the expense of others. Really, I consider it as anything in the google definition of the word.

# morally bad or wrong; "evil purposes"; "an evil influence"; "evil deeds"
# morally objectionable behavior
# having the nature of vice
# that which causes harm or destruction or misfortune; "the evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones"- Shakespeare
# tending to cause great harm
# the quality of being morally wrong in principle or practice; "attempts to explain the origin of evil in the world"
# malefic: having or exerting a malignant influence; "malevolent stars"; "a malefic force"

So, proactive anarchy to over throw society is the only evil you recognize?

So, proactive anarchy to over throw society is the only evil you recognize?

I metioned the willingness to destroy the entire world as well, so just by restating what I've already said, no. However, anyone who is really evil just isn't going to get along well with "good" people.

I think, however, that we tend to overuse the term evil. More and more and more things are being called "evil" now-a-days. Before it was applied to terrorists, child pornographers, rogue nation leaders and such, evil refered to work of the devil and his servents (who are innately against order and peace and all good things), the actions of truly sick individuals like serial killers, people who torture for their own amusement, and so forth. I personally think Communism and mass-murder do not both equally deserve the terrm "evil", nor do I believe that a terrorist who is trying to make a political point through violence and scare tactics is on par with a psychopath who mutilates people for pleasure.

Evil is a truly sick, twisted thing. It is a corruption of all good morals and anything good in human nature. Anything less, to me, is simply deviant, selfish, violent, or misguided behavior.

I also firmly believe that true evil is not something that most humans can wrap their minds around. We tend to put kiddy gloves on evil when we apply it to most things.
