For us, because we were somewhat paralleling and evolving from the Apollo Program, one of the most important aspects was for our technology and ships to initially resemble something not too far ahead of NASA. As the storyline moves forward and develops separately from NASA, in each new edition things begin to look a little differently, capabilities improve, but not light years ahead of where, we of the Jetson era, thought our space vehicles would be today.

Yes, tech is close to the era, early 80's, with some black ops enhancements from a covert agency having a bottomless bank account and no restrictions on development. And there will be modest improvements from time to time going forward after contact (3rd edition) with a benevolent shepherd race. The Rigelians share bits of information and technology as we demonstrate maturity and responsibility. (4th edition being written now)

There are several alien races and as many ship designs, none of which have been physically produced at this point but with our modeling background, in time we will probably build a model or two of the more frequently discussed variants.

Speaking of actual flying models, several of the space ships mentioned in this thread have been produced to fly on black powder engines in the past and many more could be converted to fly that way. I have built and flown many BSG Vipers, the Enterprise, the Space 1999 Eagle, to mention a few. Many of the other ships COULD be modded to fly as well.

Forgive duplicates because I didn't review my previous posts.

I tried to find examples of near future designs.

Now I am posting "Concept Apollo Spaceships"

From Orion's Arm Encyclopedia Galactica

Very nice set of ships Tom!

I've seen the Apollo 27 built and flown as a cluster. In model rocketry that one is a bit tricky but doable.
I thought you might like them.
I also thought they might inspire some design elements in your own models.

Wow, completely missed the intention of the topic...
SpaceShip Discussion and Design
To discuss the ships and their designs.
Everybody knows that if a ship is designed correctly it will require no organic captain.

What!?! No organic captain!?!

It won't work, they tried that with the M-5 unit. Don't forget what happened to Dr. Daystrom.
