~Part 30~

1 month later:

Everyone is gathered at the St-Patrick church for the christening of baby Olivia. Grandparents, Irina and Jack arrived first; followed by Sydney , Vaughn and Jake. Eric was pacing nervously back in forth in the back of the church while greeting the guests. Sydney walked to the front of the church to go say a quick hello to her sister, Nadia while Vaughn stay in the back with Weiss.

“Today is a big day.” Vaughn said smiling at his best friend.

“Yes it is. “ Weiss replied, quickly glancing at Nadia holding their sleeping baby in her arms.

“What is going on? Vaughn inquired. “You seem nervous.”

“Okay, last night I had a crazy idea that I should ask Nadia to marry me today.”

“You want to get marry today?”

“Told you it was a crazy idea but it’s makes perfect sense. You see, everyone we care about is here for the christening and we want to get married, so why not combine the two events?”

“Do you think Nadia will agree to this? He smiled. “I mean it’s her life, too.”

“We’ve talked about it a few times before but we agreed to wait until the baby was here, but I don’t want to wait anymore. I want Nadia to be my wife and today seems to be like a good day to make it official.”

“All I can say is congratulations. You two are perfect for each other.”

“Thanks. It means a lot coming from you.”

“That what best friends are for. Besides, we’re practically family.”

“Never thought I would say this but I’m glad we both found the woman of our dreams.”

“It took me long enough. “Vaughn sighed. “But I’m glad Sydney didn’t give up on me.”

“How could she? You’re a great catch when you want to be.”

Vaughn laughed. “No, she’s the great catch. I’m just trying to keep up with her.”

“How is she doing?”

“Besides the morning sickness, she’s doing great. I’m actually having a hard time telling her to slow down. With our crazy work schedules and Jake starting school in the fall, we haven’t had a chance to start decorating the nursery or take a much needed vacation.”

“You know that once the baby is here, your lives will be even crazier. I’m still getting used to getting a few times a night to feed Olivia. Don’t get me wrong, I’m might be sleep deprive but I wouldn’t trade my life for anything.”

“Yeah, kids do that to you. They have this ability to put everything into perceptive. Don‘t they?”

“I never thought that this little girl of mine would have me wrapped up around her little fingers like she does. She can’t even walk or talk but trust me when I say that she already knows what she wants and knows how to get it.”

“It will only get worse as she gets older.”

“What are you guys talking about?” Sydney and Nadia asked as they came to join them.

“The joy of parenthood.” Weiss replied as he kissed his little girl’s forehead.

“Everyone is here. Should we get started?” Nadia asked.

“Before we do, I need to talk to you.”

“Syd, can you take her.” Nadia asked as she handed Olivia to her.

“What’s going on?” she asked when they were finally alone.

“I’ve stayed up all last night, thinking…about how much you and Olivia have changed my life for the better. I realized there was only one thing missing to make this picture perfect…and it is for you to become my wife.”

“We’ve talked about this and we will get married…and soon. Now that the baby is here, we can start planning the kind of wedding we want.”

“But that’s just it, I don’t want to wait anymore. I want to marry you today, if you’ll have me. Marry me, Nadia?”

“You’re serious?”

“Yes. Everyone we care about is here and I see no reason to postpone the wedding any longer. We’ll be together forever anyways. Why not make it official today?”

“Okay.” She replied with a huge smile on her face. “Let’s do it.”

“Wait, did you just say ‘yes’?”

“I did your big fool. Yes, I will marry you today.”

Grabbing her by the waist and twirling her around. “I promise you, you won’t ever regret it.”

“I know.” She replied, sealing the promise with a kiss.

5 months later:

Sydney and Vaughn made their way to the clinic for Sydney’s check-up. This should be the day they find out the sex of their much-anticipated bundle of joy. Jake wanted to come along but Vaughn promised him to bring in next time. Jake is so excited about the baby that he keeps telling Sydney to hurry up in having the baby so he can play with him or her. Yes, he did finally come around about the idea about potentially having a little sister to play with but if he had to choose, he still would pick a little brother over a little sister any day. Vaughn was sitting in the waiting area and couldn’t help smiling at how being pregnant agreed with Sydney. She was simply glowing and nothing or no one could erase that permanent smile on her face.

“Excited?” She asked, pulling him out of his thoughts.

“Absolutely.” he smiled and then grabbed her hand and gently kissed her fingers.

”Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Honey, you’re here as my husband not as a doctor.” She smiled. “So stop worrying. Everything is fine.”

She placed his hand along with hers on her swollen belly as they felt a kick. “ Feel that?”

“This is pretty incredible.” He said, gently rubbing her belly.

“I’ll never get used to that sensation.” she giggled. “And this prove to you that this baby was meant to be.”

“Sydney!” Jane called out to her with a big smile on her face. “So nice to see you again.”

“You, too.” Sydney said, grabbing Vaughn’s hand. “We’re very anxious to see our baby.”

“We’ll see what we can do about that.” Jane said, escorting them to the examining room.

Sydney lay down on the table while Vaughn pulled the chair next to her.

“Okay, I know you two know the routine, so let’s do this. Okay?” She said, squeezing some liquid on Sydney’s belly.

“It’s cold.” Sydney giggled.

“Sorry about that. “Jane apologized. “Let’s see if we can see that baby of yours. “ She added as took the mini camera and circled it on Sydney’s belly.

The image on the monitor was kind of blurry at first but there was no mistaking the sound that came out of the speakers. A strong heartbeat echoed loud and clear as Sydney couldn’t contain the tears streaming down her face.

“This is the most amazing sound that I ever heard in my life.”

“Wait a second, “Jane said circling the camera once more on Sydney’s belly. Looking at the monitor again, just to be sure she wasn‘t mistaking, she turned and looked at Sydney and Vaughn with a huge smile on her face.

“Well, “Sydney asked enthusiastically. “Is it a boy or a girl?”

“What would you say if I said both?” She said as Sydney and Vaughn exchanged a confused look.

“You mean we’re having twins?”

“Yes. Here’s your little boy and over there, it’s your little girl.”

“Are they okay?” Vaughn asked.

“Yes, they are.”

“Oh, My God, Michael. Look our little girl is sucking her thumb.” Sydney said, amazed by the two miracles growing inside her.

“Look at our little guy, he’s kicking his tiny foot.” He commented, brushing his fingers against the screen.

“Definitely a soccer player that one. “ She smiled.

“I should see you in a few weeks. In the meantime, try to take it easy.” Jane insisted.

“I will and Jane, thank you.” Sydney said, holding the pictures of her children against her chest.

“Now, all you have to do, is pick out some names for those two angels.” She said before leaving Sydney and Vaughn alone in the room.

“Twins.” Sydney said, looking at her husband. “Are we ready for this?”

Taking her hand in his and kissing her lips. “ We are more than ready.”

“I love you.” Sydney said, gently stroking her husband’s face.

“I love you, too.” He replied, kissing her lips.

“Let’s go tell Jake.” He said, excitedly.

“Let’s go.”

Epilogue:

10 years later:

“Mommy!” Jessie called out to her mother from the top of the stairs.

“What is it, Jessie?” Sydney shouted to her daughter from the living room.

”I can’t find my shoes and I’m going to be late from my ballet class.”

“If you would have cleaned your room like I asked you to, you wouldn’t have to search for your things.”

“But, Mom!” Jessie whined as she returned into her room to find her missing ballet shoes.

Nicholas was leaning against the doorway of his bedroom, staring at his twin with a devilish smirk on his face.

“Looking for these?” He said, pulling the shoes from behind his back.

“Give me those, Nick.”

“Not until you promise to never come into my room and mess up with my things when I not here.”

“Fine, I promise. Now give me those.” She said, yanking them from his hands.

“You’re such a girl!” Nicholas commented.

“Kids, what’s all the bickering about?” Vaughn asked as he came out of his bedroom on his way downstairs.

“Nothing.” The kids replied in unison.

Shaking his head, “Okay.” He then grabbed his son by the shoulder. “Are you ready for your first hockey game?”

“Huh, huh!” Nicholas replied enthusiastically. “Is Jake coming to see me?”

“He sure is. So are your grandfathers.”

“Are you coming, Daddy?” Nick asked his father.

“Absolutely. He replied, smiling at his son. “I would not miss it for the world.”

During the years since Bill Vaughn came back into his life, Michael finally got the chance to know his father. They were actually close now, eve after Bill admitted to have had a love child with a woman who lived in Chicago. Michael contacted the woman and arranged to meet his half-brother. They didn’t see each other very often but they kept in contact via e-mails and he always made sure to invite David and his mother to spend the holidays with them. After all, they were family. They may not be the perfect family but family was family.

Weiss and Nadia had another child, another daughter called Lily. Nadia and the girls were Eric Weiss’s pride and joy. As for Francie and Will: Will continued to do a few plays on Broadway but was recently offered the lead role in a feature film. As for Francie, she continued working at the clinic while juggling motherhood to their three years old daughter, Jenna.

As for Sydney, she still worked part-time at the clinic with Michael but last fall, she started working on her first book about all the things she went through to become pregnant and her advices on how to raise multiples.

Her book “ Special Delivery” was now being published and Sydney couldn’t wait to share with others what she had learned along the years. Being a mother was always a dream she’d cherished and with the arrival of Jessie and Nicky, she'd finally become one. Her life was now complete. She was a good mother and a good wife and there was nothing else she wanted in life….well… except maybe another child.
