Aliens Spiders of Mars

No, "Spiders of Mars" is not a reference to David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust persona, but rather a photographed phenomenon on Mars that, so far can't be explained.

First seen in 1998 black 'things' appear to come & go from the tops of the sand dunes of Mars. They are seen during the hot Summer season and then gone again in the Winter. On the days they are seen the image seems to become more spider like the hotter the day gets.

A prevailing theory is that the black spots are actually geysers of of CO2 that is normally frozen underground but melted in the hot sun resulting in a spume of rock & ice up in to the air.

Looking at the images though one can't help but think of spiders. Really huge giant black spiders scampering around the dunes of Mars warming themselves under the sun awaiting prey.
