Sci-Fi Star Trek (2009) {JJ Abrams reboot}

ok, now i have watched the movie twice and understand alot of what is going on in the plot line of this movie.

i dont consider it a remake, so to speak, as it opens a new facet of the beginnings of the young members of starfleet.

there is one key element to the plot of this movie that i caught the first time around and when i watched it again just to confirm it. i will not say what it is here cause i dont want to ruin it for others who have not seen it, still for those out there that have i am sure you caught it also.

personally i will say that i loved this movie and look forward to a sequel that is reportedly in the works.

Possibly one of the best of all of them.

Much action and mayhem. Cool acting with 'roots' of the original cast.

A must see for anyone that says they are a Trek fan.

I could see a new series developing. All prior storylines are moot.

Hey hey,

I saw it at the IMAX in London as a birthday treat, and was blown away,
i'm not actually a trekky, though i did love the next generation series, and the movies after, but that's the only series i ever go into [Deanna Troi had nothing to do with that of course:D]. But i was really hyped up to see the new movie.

And it didnt dissapoint. It was one of the best movies i've seen for ages.
And i've seen alot. Just in the last few weeks!

I wanna see it again! I think that Chris Pine and Zachory Quinto played the parts so well, and Simon Pegg was suprisingly un-cheesy!

I loved it.

And i may now have been 'groomed' for impending trekkyness!

:alien:

i think that is the words i was looking for "roots of the original cast". it would be nice to see a new series forming from this.

here is a thought. if they ever did a episode or full feature based on the "Mirror, Mirror" episode from the original series, it would be fascinating to see what the alternate universe is like, since this one is altered because of the older spock and nero.

i agree with you there. chris pine did some very subtle expressions and movements of william shatner that it took me watching it twice to really pinpoint them. zachary quinto was and excellent spock. i can see why leonard nimoy wanted him to play the part. Simon Pegg was beyond exellent as mr. scott. i was actually disapointed that nothing about scotch or romulan ale came up in the movie from him.

i am at a loss for one thing though. does anyone know (unless i missed it in the movie), why mr. scott was on the federation outpost? i dont remember if it said anything about it.

all in all i am very impressed with the movie. this will definitely will be a dvd buy for me when it does come out.

Just got back from seeing it myself and I really enjoyed it and so did my kids who were reluctantly dragged along as Dad's excuse for going....

"Yeah, yeah, well. I had to go, didn't I ?..... I had to go 'cos the kids wanted to see it... "

I thought the plot and characterizations were excellent but they should have shown more of the Enterprise.........'Tis a thing of beauty.

Also, I know it was J.J.Abrams but did he use the same camera as the one in Cloverfield?
Am I the only one who can't get used to wibbly wobbly camera shots all the time.

Shakeycam or what.....

Just another Star Trek film - throw lots of tech-speak and hope it deadens the brain enough to think you enjoyed it.

But that's just me being cynical.

"Where are the battle forts defending the home worlds!?"

No galactic Empire would ever allow such attacks to take place.

But then I have to force myself to remember that this is ST, originating from the love & peace hippy 1960s.

Was that 10,000 survivors, or 10,000 ships surviving?

Grrrrrrrr!

Gave it 7/10 for sheer entertainment.

:P

it was 10,000 survivors. just remember, vulcan didnt know they were under attack till it happened and with a ship that was drilling a hole through the planet, what kind of action would they take?

Surely you're kidding. This is one to be seen on the BIG SCREEN.

That's why people still go to theaters ... or invest in home theater systems.

to be honest i would rather sit at home and view the movie without all the whoops and hollars from other people. the last time i went to a theater was to take my son to see the second harry potter movie and i couldnt enjoy it then cause of all the noise. before that the last time i was at a theater was to see batman in 1989.

i dont completely object to theaters (except for the cost) because seeing and hearing in big screen and bigger sound is awesome. and i do apologize, i did see one other after harry potter and that was dreamcatcher.

i will say that i have seen this movie twice now as there are some movies that are worth it.

my favorites in the movie are spock, scotty and kirk of course. i am very pleased with the new designs and how it was all produced. hope they make a sequel soon.

I was happy with what JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman did with the movie. Dazzling visuals!

The ship model was a bit different than the USS Enterprise if the TV show, but not as "futuristic" as ST:TNG version.

If you're interested in the ship designs of the various Enterprises, look here.

The phaser pistol looked somewhat like the classic TV version. Here's what the toy looks like.

Notice that the red nozzle swivels over from 'Kill' to 'Stun' of the blue nozzle. The movie showed Kirk switching frequently (he's a rule breaker) while the other good guys used Stun settings, but it wasn't very obvious unless you've seen the toy at stores like I had. :D

Compare with the Classic Phaser here.

I was able to recognise Alias co-star Rachel Nichols as Gaila, an Orion Starfleet cadet, even under green skin makeup.

I recognised Greg Grunberg's voice.

I did not spot Amanda Foreman as Hannity, a Starfleet officer on the Enterprise bridge. She played Marshall Flinkman's wife, Carrie Bowman-Flinkman, on Alias.

The rumoured appearance of Jennifer Garner was wrong. I read at Wikipedia the JJ Abrams was considering a small part for Felicity star Kerry Russell.
Abrams was interested in casting Keri Russell, but they deemed the role he had in mind for her too similar to her other roles.
