Star Trek : After Earth

aelogo.jpg

Star Trek : After Earth has been created in January 2005 to be a free Play-by-Email (PbEM) game set in the year 2477. It is based in an alternate universe of Star Trek. We used the last film, Nemesis, as the turning point history of our game.

In 2379, Enterprise E falls in a battle after facing a new Romulan Warbird, after, Earth falls to the same fate. The cause, a new Alliance composed of Romulans, Breens and the Dominion empire that has newly formed. The Federation is in chaos, many worlds falls after this event. The Klingon joins the fight with the Federation against this new foe. Almost 100 yrs later, they decides to regroup and escape with the help of a Gateway that was constructed in complete secrecy.

The concept of the game is simple, it will deal with the struggles of the final Federation fleet in a new area of space, attempting to survive. What we need is people with imagination and want to have fun... since you are here, you obviously have both... Join us!

USS Relentless - Technical Specifications

The USS Relentless is the latest in a series of designs by New Federation Intelligence to increase the response times of ships to high-danger situations. Its primary specification is a Battleship, reflecting its capability to split into effectively 3 semi-independent starships. The Relentless is capable of causing a massive amount of damage to an enemy vessel or installation, followed by a quick return to federation-controlled space. The vessel has been designed with high-yield advanced weaponry to fit its assignment as an Experimental Battleship, and, augmenting this objective further, comes equipped with a mission-specific pod, into which components applicable to the mission in hand can be applied. This design feature was included as a direct result of the success of the Nebula Class vessel, to which it may be viewed as a more advanced alternative or even a replacement.

The Relentless is a prototype vessel for an entirely new class, and was assigned registry number NX- 100217 to reflect the nature of the new technology onboard. As a prototype, the Relentless carries a vast array of new and improved technology, some taken from successful ship designs. For example, the Holographic Tactical Display, recently implemented on the Keltoi class, has been upgraded and implemented in this design for use in almost all bridge stations because of its ease of use and quick response, and as a direct result of the Relentless’ extremely advanced computer systems. Through research and thorough testing of the Tactical capabilities of this new technology, the system has been vastly improved, creating a virtual display more advanced and more useable than previous data-panel LCARS consoles.

The Most notable element of the Relentless, at first glance, is its Mission Pod, even more versatile than the Nebula class’. The Relentless' engines are the most powerful in Starfleet history. Streamlined and long, as well as supporting a roll bar for the mission-pod, (similar to the same idea used on the ageing Miranda-class), the longer nacelles allow for double the amount of warp coils of the Prometheus class, the Relentless' closest cousin. Essentially these engines, coupled with the Relentless’ advanced power core, enable the Relentless to travel at speeds up to warp 9.999999999999996 (the last time such a speed was recorded was through the influence of the alien called "the traveller" on the USS Enterprise-D). If pushed to its maximum stable output, the ship is capable of warp 10. Such speed would be reserved as a desperate last-ditch resort, as in tests these speeds caused hyper-acceleration of the evolutionary process. Also, it leaves the core superheated and susceptible to breach, and the only solution yet discovered is to counteract the hyper acceleration problem, implementing into the Relentless' multi-layered shields a special modification of the Temporal shielding encountered on Krenim vessels.

In order to accommodate the power requirements for the ship, the Relentless doesn't have a conventional warp core. Its power core is a Durellium-enhanced Cochrane Drive. This is similar in many respects to the conventional Cochrane Drive, except it has Durellium crystals in place of regular Dilithium crystals. Only recently discovered, Durellium shares the reaction-control capabilities of Dilithium, except it boosts the power output of the M/AM reaction by nearly 60%, providing more than enough power for the shields and engines. The Relentless is the first ship in Starfleet to utilise Durellium crystals, and the new power regulators are currently under inspection and review by Starfleet in light of diminished Dilithium supplies.

It is this new M/AM Catalyst that is the primary reason for the starship's NX classification.

From a tactical perspective, the Relentless is effectively a flying fortress. It is a full-vector separable vessel, with unique shielding and a new type of torpedo, the Phased Dispersion Missile (PDM). This projectile is essentially a quantum torpedo, or rather 3 mini-torpedoes clustered together in a phased casing. This casing penetrates the shields of the enemy vessel, then vaporises, releasing the clusters, which detonate, causing massive damage on a large area. Theoretically the PDM unit is capable of penetrating an enemy’s hull before its power reserves run out, although this has never been tested.

The Relentless has 3 shield layers. The primary shields are MRT shields, meaning Metaphasic- Regenerative-Temporal Shielding. The secondary shields are ThR shields (Radiation-Regenerative), that are designed to guard against Thaleron Radiation, although their effectiveness in the field is yet to be seen. The Tertiary (Essential) shields are temporal-regenerative shields. The primary shield mode is Alpha 1: the simultaneous maintenance of the primary and secondary shields. If all three shields were to be raised simultaneously, there is a risk of core overload, hence starfleet has standing orders to reserve such tactics for a last-hope situation.

The Relentless also comes equipped with autodestruct systems, however these are only a last ditch resort. The Relentless is designed for longevity and above all survival, leading starfleet to incorporate a unique element into the design. The mission pod is constantly equipped with at least one torpedo launcher, warp engine and a backup computer core. At any time, all data essential to the ship's functioning can be downloaded to this computer and sent towards the nearest friendly starbase, with permission from the captain and two other pre-determined officers on board. This procedure renders the ship useless (i.e. dead in space) to any captors, thus making hijack operations effectively impossible.
