I have a new project this year.
In light of getting an education at Uni level, my interests and specialisations need to be settled on. I am doing a joint honours degree, two degrees, 50% of each, in English Language and Linguistics and english Literature.
There is a module or at least interest in the Language and Linguistics side in the burgeoning E-Communication side of language use. This involves everything from txt msg's, instant messaging, forum use, emails, etc. Their is a large problem with todays youngsters using "cool" txt msg and instant messaging speak and not learning the correct rules for the English language, ie. "the correct language for the situation."
For literature, I am not sure if I will be having the chance to do a module in creative writing, but here I will be looking at things from a different angle anyhow. The government sets an educational curriculum based on future work force needs and we are turning into a service industry where soft subjects and basic IT knowledge is a necessity to operate a shop till, run the phones in a credit card helpline and various other soul destroying white collar jobs (read Dilbert and you'll understand!)
So, with the fact I have kids myself and want to join those interests above with my encouraging their reading, correct language usage and creativity I have decided to work towards a series of childrens books, a more modern, techno-thriller version of the Hardy Boys. I can home print and hand bind the results and give them to my kids and hope the aims of producing them work on them the way I want.
Just trying to iron out some rules and ideas before I start on them. Theres a lot of note taking and mind mapping forms going up here!
