PITTSBURGH - The Marines are looking for a few good - robots. The Corps has signed a $26 million contract with Carnegie Mellon University and a Virginia defense contractor to build a robot mini-tank.
The 4-foot-tall Gladiator miniature tanks will be loaded with sensors and weapons.
Researchers say a Marine will be able to control the mini-tank from a safe distance with a 20-pound remote control unit. The Marines hope to have the first Gladiators in the field by 2007.
