Chapter 24
“Thanks Syd, it means a lot that you aren’t oober pissed at me” Vaughn smiled.
“Well, I was thinking about it” Sydney told him.
“Uhhh…”
“I’m going to pretend to be your fiancée to make sure that you keep Liz” Sydney told him quickly.
“Syd” Vaughn gasped, “No”
“No, I…I can’t stand the thought of you losing Liz, especially if there was something that I could do to help you keep her” Sydney told him, “I live here as it is, we’ve slept together, engagement won’t be that hard to play”
“Sydney, I really can’t ask you to do something as drastic as that” Vaughn sighed, “As much as I appreciate the offer”
“No, it’s not an offer, it is what we’re doing” Sydney told him firmly.
“Syd, it’s insane” Vaughn shook his head, “I can’t ask you to give something so huge of your life up just for me”
“You aren’t asking, I’m offering”
“It’s the same thing Sydney” Vaughn told her.
“Michael…please” Sydney looked at him sincerely.
“Fine” Vaughn nodded, “But if you ever want out…just tell me and it’s done”
“I will” Sydney nodded.
“So I guess I need to get you a ring” Vaughn smiled slightly.
“Don’t be silly, I can use my moms old one” Sydney shook her head.
“No, if you are going to be my fiancée, even if it’s not real. You are going to have a nice ring” Vaughn told her.
“Vaughn” Sydney shook her head.
“Oh come on it’ll be fun. We’ll buy you a huge ass ring from Tiffany’s” Vaughn laughed.
“Are you kidding me?” Sydney gaped at him.
“Nope” Vaughn shook his head, “We’ll get Eric and Nadia to watch Liz later tonight and we’ll go get it”
“Vaughn” Sydney was still staring at him with her mouth open, “That is nuts”
“But it’ll be fun” Vaughn laughed.
“Yeah…but its nuts” Sydney told him.
“So, what about this isn’t nuts?”
*~*
“I’d like to look at that one” Vaughn pointed towards a ring.
“No” Sydney shook her head, “No, no, no, NO!”
“Oh come on” Vaughn rolled his eyes, “Try it on sweetheart”
“Honey I don’t think that ring is appropriate” Sydney responded with a shake of her head.
“Why not?” Vaughn looked at her.
“It’s just really big, and flashy” Sydney told him.
“I think it’ll look nice on you” Vaughn told her, putting his hands on her hips, “We’d like to see it”
“Fine” Sydney sighed leaning back slightly into the body behind her, “But I don’t want a huge ring Michael”
“I know but I think it would look nice” Vaughn told her.
“Here you are” the saleswoman handed Sydney the ring, “I believe it’s your size”
“Thank you” Sydney carefully took the ring and slipped it onto her finger.
“Syd” Vaughn breathed, “It looks gorgeous”
“It does” Sydney found herself agreeing.
“We’ll take it” Vaughn looked at the saleswoman with a boyish grin on his face.
“Michael” Sydney looked up at him, “No”
“Here” Vaughn handed her his Amex, “Can she wear it out?”
“I suppose” the saleswoman nodded, “These are final sale”
“We know” Vaughn nodded.
“Michael” Sydney repeated.
“What?” Vaughn smiled, “It’s beautiful and I want you to have it”
“It’s too much” Sydney shook her head.
“Nothing is too much” Vaughn whispered in her ear, “For the woman who is helping me to keep my child”
