THUMBS UP!
ALIAS
Super Sunday

While Digest's main focus is daytime, some of us also get a little--how to
put this delicately?--obsessed with certain prime-time shows that strike our
soap-loving fancy. ALIAS is one of them. As a spy show, it offers more
breathless excitement than many Bond films; as a relationship drama, it's as
affecting as FELICITY in it's heyday. Imagine our glee when it won the
coveted post-Super Bowl spot, then exceeded our expectations.

It started with a gripping mission in which our butt-kicking heroine, Sydney
(Jennifer Garner), basically brought down a plane, then continued with more
intrigue and great supporting performances from Victor Garber (Jack), Carl
Lumbly (Dixon), Greg Grunberg (Weiss), and guest star Rutger Huaer (Geiger).
In the end, two shockers: Evil mastermind Sloane revealed that not only has
he been manipulating everyone for ages, he has a new operative who happens
to be a dead ringer for Syd's best friend, Francie. The chilling pan to the
real Francie's corpse was the definition of cliffhanger.

But who are we kidding? The scene no one could stop raving about was when
Syd and C.I.A. handler Vaughn (Michael Vartan) strode toward each other, and
the camera spun dizzily around them in that kiss, which could not have been
more perfectly executed, given how long we'd waited.

Action, torture, a kiss to end all kisses--it was a good night to be an
ALIAS fan. One episode superbly captured the thrill ride that is ALIAS,
while exploding it onto a new track as a gift to loyal viewers and a hook
for newcomers. Simply put, this show rocks. Let the obsession continue....
