I don't like top lists. They are so subjective. I used to belong ot a community called top5 but stopped visiting when I realized it was a waste of time to construct a top list because something would always change it.

Here are a few movies that I have no problem watching over and over again.

Aliens
The Thing
Them!
Cube2 - Hypercube
Appleseed

Tomorrow, I might list 5 completely different movies or might not.

Here's my top 20, with a few titles that haven't shown up on anyone else's list so far.

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. Robinson Crusoe on Mars
3. 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (1954)
4. Forbidden Planet
5. War of the Worlds (1953)
6. Solaris (2002)
7. Blade Runner
8. Planet of the Apes (1968)
9. Soylent Green
10. The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
11. The Thing from Another World (1951)
11. The Time Machine (1960)
12. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
13. Alien
14. Terminator
15. The First Men in the Moon (1964)
16. Gojira (Godzilla, King of the Monsters) - (1954)
17. This Island Earth
18. Fahrenheit 451
19. Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970)
20. Island of Lost Souls (1932)

Cube2 - Hypercube

The entire Cube series is pretty good. Cube 3 being the one that stands out from my memory. There is also an anime called Gantz which has the same idea. People wake up and don't know how they got there and then they have to survive. Overall, Cube did it better.

2. Robinson Crusoe on Mars
Just saw this one today thanks to Netflix. It was the Criterion Collection DVD version and was a darn clean cut.

Oddly I can't remember if I had seen it before so I went into it today with a clear mind. The effects are of course dated but the basic story line holds up.

After watching it the odd thought occurred to me that there are similarities between it and 1985's Enemy Mine with Louis Gossett, Jr. & Dennis Quaid. Now, before you say I'm crazy, both movies involve a space ship pilot stranded on a seemingly uninhabited planet with harsh environments. The planets in both are rich in minerals and attract miners who use slave labor. The stranded pilot, in the course of spending a considerable amount of time on the barren planet, bonds with a member of the race that that is being used for slave labor. The pilot beats all odds and is rescued.

Now, of course, there are some major plot elements in the latter that is not in the former, but Robinson Crusoe on Mars is a pretty basic story line. In a sense, it is almost like somebody took the basic plot and gave it an updated treatment to come up with Enemy Mine.

Now with that aside, Robinson Crusoe was a pretty good movie and I can see why it would go on some fans 'Best Of' lists. Seeing Adam West in his pre-Batman days is always interesting because West, like William Shatner, was a serious actor who played in a number of roles but was forever identified as a particular character that they never were able to break out of again.

Some of mine are

Close encounters

Jurassic Park
Fifth Element

the dodgy "science" makes a "fantasy" out of the "fiction" that is global warming, sorry climate change or is it climate disruption this year.cheers G

SciFi not FANTASY

I'm surprised to see almost no mentions of Minority Report - a brilliant film in my view and an interesting concept in the first place. Like Blade Runner, based on a Philip K Dick story.

On the other hand, why does anyone rate Wall-E? Saw it with my sons when it first came out and we were very disappointed. Yeah it looked good, but few other merits!
