Welcome to the Jungle!

Welcome to the Jungle. Otherwise known as Junior High. ~ Principal Caffery

Chapter 1

Jennifer sighed as she walked down the hallway with her best friend Lynn. It was their first day of Junior High at Willow Wood Junior High. No more babying. No, this was the real deal. No more walking in lines or teacher escorts. It was complete freedom.

Everything was perfect. Jennifer and Lynn promised to meet up outside room 212 for History later that day and went their separate ways.

Jennifer was eager to learn whose locker was next to hers. Unfortunately, she didn’t have time to figure it out. She had 5 minutes to find her way to first period, which was Home Economics.

A short, plump woman greeted her at the door holding a clip board to her large stomach.

“Your schedule please?”

Jennifer shifted her binder and pulled out of her back pocket her crumpled schedule and handed it over.

The woman shot her an angry glance and carefully unfolded the schedule and ran her highlighter over the paper on the clipboard.

“Jennifer Taylor?” She asked.

Jennifer stood up straight. This wasn’t a very good first impression but she didn’t care. She could suck up to her later.

“Yes, Ma’am?”

“I’m Mrs. Crider. Welcome to Home Ec. Right now, our first assignment is to put ourselves in alphabetical order.” Mrs. Crider said and moved aside to let her through.

Jennifer sighed and looked around the classroom. She didn’t know anyone. She wasn’t even supposed to be in this class! She was supposed to be in Spanish or TV/Journalism.

There weren’t even any seats left. She sighed and randomly picked someone.

“Hi, um…what’s your last name?” Jennifer asked nervously.

“Swan.” Was the reply.

“Oh.” Jennifer said and moved on to the next person. She looked down at the guy sitting in the chair. He had blonde hair and green eyes.

“What’s your last name?” She asked, even more nervous than the last time.

“What’s yours?” He asked.

Oh my god. He actually talked to me. Jennifer thought. “Taylor.” He got up, dragging his backpack behind him and moved to stand in the back of the room.

Jennifer tried unsuccessfully to try to focus on what Mrs. Crider was saying but found her mind wondering to the seat in back of her, occupied by the nice blonde guy.

She remembered what Lynn had said 3 months before.

“This is when all the guys grow up.” Lynn had stated 3 months prior.

Jennifer nearly jumped when the speakers went on.

“Good morning ladies and gentlemen! 7th Graders, I hope you’re transitioning from Intermediate School to Junior High easily. 8th Graders, I hope you found your return enjoyable. And I hope all of you had no problems finding your classes. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Doctor Kate Caffery or Mrs. Caffery or Principal Caffery. I just want to go over the procedures and expectations here at Willow Wood Junior High. Students, the expectation is that everyone has a planner. The expectation is that everyone writes in their planner. The expectation is that everyone be able to open their lockers and use them. Students do not give out your locker combinations to your friends. Willow Wood is not responsible if Ruby Sue steals your Math book or if Billy Joe takes your Pink Floyd CD.

Also, Teachers, you are to check everyone’s schedules. Students, no matter how well you’ve memorized your schedule, you must carry it with you at all times for the next week until our servers are back up.

Textbooks will be issued during all history classes. 8th grade today, 7th grade tomorrow. You will get your lunch assignments during 5th period. There will be more information coming soon.”

Welcome to Junior High. Jennifer thought as she focused back to Mrs. Crider’s rambling.

I like it, but the atmosphere is kinda depressing and sad!
Or is just me, who feels that way?
Anyway, can I please get a PM?
This is more a dramatic story, isn´t it?
