As I get older I find myself listening to broadcast radio a lot less than I used to. The few stations that I do listen to tend to be channels that are either "oldies" stations or stations that, though they play music that crosses different genres, they still tend to be mostly songs that are not recent. Of course, mind you, the 80's are now considered to be "oldies" but that's a different topic.
Some new stuff that I find often comes from our "What are you listening to?" thread here at Alien Soup. That thread is pretty cool because sometimes an artist who I'm not familiar with will be posted and I then end up being totally distracted while I find & listen to all of their different songs to see what catches my attention. Watching TV shows will also often feature a song sometimes that I end up adding to my playlists. The song "No Roots" by Alice Merton, for example, is something I heard on the show The Blacklist a month or so before it started appearing everywhere.
Lately I've been trying out different subscription streaming music services. I'll likely be settling on Google Play Music for our household but it's a bit depressing because there are days when I'm browsing the "Top Charts" or "New Releases" listings and I don't know a single act shown.
Where are you guys poking around these days for new music? Are "Top 40" type shows on radio still popular? You guys even listening to radio anymore or am I just one of the last holdouts that haven't going totally streaming yet?
