I'm working on the double update as we speak. I have it written down in a notebook but didn't have a chance to type it yet and do the last minute revisions.

Should have an update for you before Thursday.

Talk to you all very soon.

So far baby girl Bristow-Vaughn is winning in the poll. I guess I'll have to start thinking about names.

Want to suggest any? :woot:

~ Part 26~

The next morning on the beach

“Michael.” She whispered against his chest.

“Mmhmm.” He said ,opening his eyes to look at her.

She laughed, propped herself up on her elbow and looked at him. “ I was thinking about our wedding.”

“My mother is driving you crazy with all her ideas, isn’t she?” He commented with a smirk.

Sydney sighed and nuzzled her face even more into his chest. “Yeah, but she means well. I just don’t how to tell her to think on a smaller scale without hurting her feelings.”

“I’ll talk to her, “ he whispered. “If she doesn’t back down, we’ll just have to threaten her about eloping. Trust me, she will back down.” He laughed.

Sydney busted out laughing along with him. “You’re the greatest.” she said, kissing his lips.

“Syd I told before, we’re in this together. Us getting married shouldn’t be something that stresses you out like this. I’m no expert or anything but I don’t think all that stress is good for the baby either.” He said gently rubbing her stomach.

“I know. I still can’t believe we’re having a baby. Can you?” she asked enthusiastically.

He smiled, leaned over and kissed her. Then he pulled back and stroked her face, knowing that there was no way he could love her more than he did right this second.

“To tell you the truth, I was thinking we would start about expanding our family after we’ve gotten married but this works too. This baby wasn’t planned but is certainly wanted and I, for one, can’t wait until he or she is born.” He said with the biggest smile on his face.

“Sydney smiled softly and rubbed her hands across his arm, “What do you want? A little boy or maybe a little girl?”

Vaughn sighed into her hair and kissed her head softly, “I don’t really care as long as the baby is healthy.”

“I was thinking that since we have Dylan, I would be nice to have a little girl.” she said as he nodded slowly at her.

“A little girl that looks like you. I can see it.” He grinned.

“You’re feeling all right, right?” He asked concernedly as he wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her neck.

“Yes, except for the awful morning sickness, I’m fine. We’re fine.” She said, taking one of his hand in hers and rubbing it against her still flat stomach.

“Good. “He smiled. “Oh, I almost forgot, I have to go to London for a few days on business. Are you going to be okay being at the house without me?” he asked.

She turned her head to the side and looked at him. “When are you leaving?”

“Tomorrow morning. At the same time, I’ll have a talk with my lawyer about starting on Dylan’s adoption papers ASAP.”

“I’ll be fine. I’ve invited Carolyn to stay with me at the house. “She told him.

“You did?” He asked, a surprised look on his face.

“Yeah, we’ve become great friends while she was at the house last time and she said that if I ever needed anything, she would be there for me.”

“Great. “Maybe she can help you plan the wedding.” He suggested.

“About the baby…Do you think we could keep it between us for a little while longer? “She asked as he gave her a suspicious look.

Vaughn sighed and pondered at her statement. “If that is what you want, I guess it can wait until I’m back from London before we tell my family. Beside this is great news and Syd, you won’t be able to hide that bump forever.”

“I know but I just want to keep this between us for a few more days. Is that crazy?” she encouraged him with a grin.

“Not crazy, it’s actually sweet.” he laughed. I’m sure my mother and brother will be happy to hear that there’s going to be a new addition to the family.”

“Well technically, it would be three new additions to the family.” She said smiling at him.

“My mistake, I meant to say three” You, Dylan and the baby will be my family from now on.” He said smiling back at her.

“Speaking of our family, maybe we should go back to the house to see what our son is up to.” she said , getting up from the blanket and helping up to his feet.

“I like the sound of that.” He said, gathering the leftover food and placing it in the basket while she stood facing him and shaking the sand off the blanket before putting it in her overnight bag.

“What?” She asked, lifting her head up to look at him.

“Our son.” He said with a huge smile on his face. She swung her bag over her shoulder before wrapping her arms around his waist.

“He will be soon enough, so you should get used to the word ‘daddy’ “ She said as he kissed her forehead.

“Let’s go home.” He said, taking her by the hand and walking together back to the house.

Meanwhile at the house:

Brian and Amelia were enjoying a quiet breakfast together when they saw Rosa enter the small dining room and telling them that Miss Carolyn’s car has just pulled in to the driveway.

“Thank you, Rosa. Can you make us a fresh pot of coffee.” Amelia replied with a genuine smile on her face.

“Very well, Madam. “Rosa said excusing herself and walking back to kitchen to make the coffee.

“What is she doing back here, Mother?” Brian asked as he glanced over the sports’ page of his newspaper.

“Sydney has invited her for the wedding and when she called me the other day to see if it was okay with me, I said I would be very happy for her to come early and help us plan Sydney’s wedding.” Amelia said smiling at her son.

“I can see why you keep encouraging her. I hope you don’t expect me to keep her company while she’s here.” Brian groaned inwardly as Amelia rolled her eyes at her son’s attitude.

“Of course not but I’ll expect you to be your charming self to make her stay in this house pleasant. Do you hear me? Amelia warned her son. No more bickering like children…for God sake, it’s time you let go of the past, Sweetheart.”

“Fine.” He sighed. He hated when his mother placed him in awful situations he couldn’t get out of.

“That’s my son.” She said kissing his cheek. “Come on, let go greet our guest.” she said getting up from her seat and walking with him to the front door.

A few minutes later, Amelia opened the door and saw Carolyn standing on the grass, enjoying the view of that the house provided as Jeffrey was taking the luggage out of the trunk.

“Amelia, “Carolyn said as she turned around and made her way towards them. “It’s so nice to see you again.” She said smiling at her host.

“Carolyn, “Amelia smiled back. “Thank your for coming.” She said greeting her with a friendly hug.

“Isn’t it, Brian?” Amelia said pulling away from Carolyn’s embrace and looking in her son’s direction.

“Hello, Brian. Nice to see you again.” Carolyn said politely as he smiled slightly back at her.

“You too. You’re looking well. I guess the South of France agreed with you.” Brian said, staring at her new golden tan exposed by her short white summer dress.

“Yes, but when Sydney called me and asked me to be here for her wedding, I just hop on the first plane out of Monaco and here I am.” She said smiling at both of them.

“Well, we’re glad that you’ve made it. I can’t wait to hear all about your trip. I haven’t been back to Monaco in along time and I’m dying to hear about all the latest gossip.” Amelia said taking Carolyn’s arm in hers and escorting her inside the house. Brian followed close by while helping Jeffrey with all of Carolyn’s luggage.

“What does she have in here? A freakin body?” He groaned as he lifted the heavy suitcase and entered the house.

“Where Sydney? Is she here?” Carolyn asked as they took a seat in the veranda in the back of the house.

“She and Michael spent the night out. Between you and me, I think that was an excuse to get away from me. You see, they think I’m getting a bit carried away with their wedding.” Amelia said as Brian snorted.

“A little carried away, “He laughed. “I think that military specs are less organized than this wedding is going to be. If I were them, I would run away and elope.” Brian said smirking at his mother.

“Brian, bite your tongue. “She said as she smacked his arm.

“I hope they don’t do that, I’m actually forward to this wedding.” Carolyn smiled.

“Me too. “Amelia agreed.

Brian shifted uncomfortably and mumbled, “Yeah right, under his breath. “Like you care what they do.”

“Brian, I still can believe you still think I’m here to split them up, “she gasped, offended. “What kind of person do you really take me for?”

“Do you really want me to answer that?” He asked, anger evident in his voice.

“Brian, that’s enough. “Amelia snapped. “Carolyn is a guest in this house and I won’t tolerate you attacking her like this.”

“Fine. I’ll be in the guest house…where I won’t bother anyone.” he said as he left Amelia and Carolyn dumbfounded about his hostility behavior.

“I apologize for his lack of manner. I don’t know what’s wrong with him lately. He seems to be so angry all the time and he won’t tell me about it.” She sighed sadly.

“Oh Amelia!” Carolyn said, sipping her cup of coffee. “I believe that his anger is partially my fault. My being here is reminding him that I betrayed him once. You see, everything started about three years ago when I was engaged to his best friend, Pathrick. On the day of my wedding, I couldn’t go through with it and called the whole thing off. Since then, Brian has never forgave me for breaking his best friend’s heart and not confiding in him about my doubts.”

“Oh dear! I knew he had been upset about Pathrick’s almost wedding but that doesn’t give him the right to take his anger on you. What happened was between you and your fiancé.”

“I know but since then, he’s been cold and distant towards me.”

“I think you need to talk to him. Make him understand that you not marrying Pathrick was not some sort of betrayal of your friendship.”

“I’ve tried but he’s still too angry to listen to anything I have to say.” Carolyn sighed sadly.

“I know my son and I think he might be ready to listen now.” Amelia smiled.

“You sound so sure.”

“Call it a mother’s instinct. Brian only gets this upset with people that he truly cares about.”

“You’re the best, Amelia.” Carolyn smiled.

“Go. Make it right with my son.” Amelia encouraged her with a smile.

“All right, I‘ll go.” Carolyn said as she got up and made her way toward the guest house.

~ Part 27~

Carolyn left Amelia and made her way toward the guest house to talk with Brian. This issue has been lingering between them long enough; it was time to put an end to it once and for all.

She softly knocked on the door and waited for him to open the door and let her in. A minute or so later, she heard the water shot off and him calling to whoever was at the door to hold, he was coming. In one quick swoop, he opened the door and stood there with only sweatpants on and his soft brown hair wet from she guessed, the shower.

“Can I come in?” She asked with a slight smile.

Without saying anything, he moved aside and let her pass him before closing the door behind him. Once inside, he quickly reached for a shirt and put it on. He then gestured her to sit down before he plopped down on the couch in front of her.

“Why are you here? Came for round two?” he finally asked her.

“No. I needed to see you.” She said in a low tone of voice.

He leaned forward and stared into her eyes. “Why?”

“Look Brian, it’s time we really talked.”

“About what?” As far as I’m concerned, we have nothing more to talk about.” he sighed as she shook her head in disagreement.

“I disagree. I think there’s still plenty of unresolved issues we haven’t talked about. There’s a few things I need to say to you and I would like for you to listen this time.”

“If this about your broken engagement with Pathrick, I think we’ve already covered that subject and I’d really appreciate it for you not bringing it up again.”

“One would think by your attitude that it was you that was left at the altar that day. Why is that?”

“I don’t know what you mean.” he said defensively.

“I think you do.”

“I just wished you would have told me about it before we all showed up at the church and waited for you for like two hours. When I went looking for you, all I found was a letter telling me to relay a message to Pathrick that you were sorry but you couldn’t go through with it. I was the one left to pick up the pieces after you left.”

“I told you that I was so sorry about that. You know what I kept thinking that day, was how I was going to disappoint you, not Pathrick. I kept thinking about you and how much you would probably hate me for what I was about to do, but I couldn’t go through with marrying Pathrick. I just couldn’t. I though of all the people that could understand my dilemma, would have been you. After all, we were friends, Brian.”

“We were friends, Carolyn. Past tense.”

“What can I say that would make you trust me again?” She asked with tears in her eyes.

“I want to know the real reason you didn’t marry Pathrick that day?”

“I told you I was scared.”

“There’s something else you aren’t telling me. What is it? I think I deserve to know the truth, right here and right now.” he said angrily.

“You’re right. You see, I fell in love with someone else and never told him. The day of my wedding, as I was putting on my dress and fixing my hair, I kept thinking about this other man and how different my life would be if I was with him. I kept telling myself that it was cold feet and that I was doing the right thing by marrying Pathrick. He was a nice guy after all and he was crazy about me but something on the back of my mind kept screaming at me to stop this before someone’s feelings got seriously hurt. I took off my wedding dress and wrote you the letter. Then, I got in my car and disappeared for a little while. I just needed to get away for it all and again, I’m truly sorry that I left you to clean my mess. It was never my intention.”

“What happen to this other man. Did you ever told him?” Brian asked.

“No. During my time away, I realized that our situation would never work. You see we come from different world and I don’t think he ever thought of me more than a friend.”

“And how do you feel about him now?” he asked, staring into her eyes.

“It’s the kind of love that never goes away. No matter how much I’ve tried to forget about it, he’s never far away from my thoughts and my heart.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” He said, taking her hand in his and squeezing it.

“How could you have known. I left and never told anyone why I ran away…not even the man that I loved more than anything in this world.”

“Who is he?”

“The man I’m in love with is…you. I know it may sound crazy because we bicker all the time but think about it and you will realize that all the clues were there from the beginning, It’s always been you and I wanted you to finally know the truth.” She said, staring into his eyes.

Brian had a numb look on his face as he processed the things Carolyn had just said to him. If he was truly honest with himself, he would have to agreed with her that they always had a special bond between them, even when they are at war with one another. He tried to hate her, but a part of him couldn’t do it. A big part of his heart secretly wished that she would love him the way he loves her.

“All this time you’ve been in love with me?” He finally said out loud.

“Yes. I finally told you because I’m tired of fighting with you. I’m tired to have you hate for doing the right thing all those years ago.”

“I don’t hate you.” he whispered as she sighed.

“Could have fooled me.” she smiled. “ Tell me something; Does my revelation changes anything between us?” She asked hopefully.

“To tell you the truth, I’m in shock right now. I never thought you come in here and tell me that you’ve been in love with all this time…but part of me is glad that you did.” he smiled.

“You are?”

“Yes, because I’m tired of being mad at you, too. There’s something I need you to know. The day of your wedding, I kept trying to come up with a way to convince you not to go through with it. I battled with my feelings of being there for my best friend but a part of me wanted to tell him that I was the better man for you. I kept quiet because I was sure that if you had decided to marry him instead of him, was because you loved him and not me. If I would have known how you felt, things would have been really different that day.”

“What are you saying?”

“I was so in love with you that I couldn’t breathe. When I got your letter saying that you’ve ran away, I was mad. Not because you didn’t marry Pathrick but because I wanted to find you and tell you that I loved you.”

“Oh Brian. What have we done. We’ve wasted all this time.” she said , finally letting the tears rolling down on her cheeks.

“I know but I’m willing to give it a try if you are.” he said , smiling at her.

“You mean like go on date?” She asked as he nodded.

“Something like that.” he said getting up from his couch, sitting beside her and wiping the tears off her face.

“I would really like to see what we’ve missed all those years ago. Don’t you?” he asked as she smiled at him.

“Okay.” She whispered as he leaned closer and kissed her forehead.

“Okay.” he said, wrapping his arm around her shoulder as they sat together, happy to have finally laid all their issues on the table.

Sorry no Sydney and Vaughn in this chapter but I felt it was really important to study Carolyn and Brian’s relationship. I promise that the next chapter will have plenty of Sydney and Vaughn in it.

Thanks for reading.

I'm so glad Carolyn and Brian finally admitted the truth, that they love each other. Something tells me there's going to be a double wedding. Which would take a lot of stress off of Sydney, since Michael's mother can concentrate on someone other than her.

Thanks for the PM.
