White Oleander

anyone else read this? i'm in the middle of reading it, and it seems like a good book...however, as my school librarian said (i checked it out from there), it's very "sexy" (LOL! I was about to crack up in front of her...her word, not mine!) anyways, apparently, it has some some scenes that apparently little kids shouldnt read...but it cant be worse than "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" (another school book...omigod, they are SO detailed in there about...erm...:cough: i think you know what i'm talking about ;)...i just read the 1st 2 chapters for SSR, and in just those...well, if you want to see what i'm talking about, go read the book...ok, well anyways i'm getting offtopic, so anyways if anyone's read this book, post here and we can talk a little about it!

and if you havent read it, go check out a copy of it! it's such a great book so far!

I read White Oleander this past summer. It was sooo good! But yes... like you said, there are some points that are inappropriate for younger kids. It can be very graphic. But I like the simple, cynical honesty the story is narrated in.

Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my favorite books! It's just amazing. But yes, it's also pretty graphic.

No, I didn't think so. The two stories are told in different ways, so it's kind of hard to tell. I mean, Astrid is naturally just a lot more jaded than the narrator from Perks.

Oh, I LOVED White Oleander. It is one of my FAVORITE books. It is gorgeously written, and the characters are all portrayed perfectly.

just finished the book...the ending wasnt the greatest, but it was ok. who were your favorite characters? favorite scenes? for me, i like ingrid, astrid (of course:D), and olivia...

Surprisingly, I liked the end of the movie better than the book. That never happens.

I really liked Clare. She was so weak... but she was a very good person.

It has a pretty good cast... Michelle Pfeiffer plays Ingrid, Alison Lohman plays Astrid, Renee Zellweger is Clare, and Patrick Fugit (the kid from Almost Famous) plays Paul.

I read white oleander last summer...i havent seen the movie thought because its R...but I really liked the book...so sad...stupid claire...what a selfish thing to do...one of my favorite characters was Olivia the prostitute  (i think Olivia was her name )
