Your Hero

Im sure we have all played an MMO where we see people that strive to be the best. The people who get awesome gear, play amazingly, and seem to be known by everyone else on the server.

Then there are those who are more carefree. No particular goal in mind. Just playing the game, enjoying the game, and going wherever things take them.

I usually like to do both. I have one character which I strive to make well known, and make a habit of getting into the "good" guilds.
Then theres a second character that I make to take a break with. Explore things I never had before etc.

What will your hero do?

I have tried the power-leveling route before, mostly just to keep up with friends and guildmembers so my toons could be effective in groups. I am tired of it.

I take my time, now, in mmorpgs. My characters explore, socialize, and roleplay with a Gestalt-like 'stop and smell the roses' attitude. I find I enjoy my game time much more this way and I don't experience the quick 'burn out' that many hard core players seem to.

I tend to play somewhere in the middle. I'm competative, but don't care to compete with the top dogs. That being said, there are times that I can seriously push hard for something that I want... then usually don't quite make it, ask my self what the hell I'm doing, and go back to just relaxing and enjoying the game.

That's EXACTLY me when I'm playing an MMO. I've only played one on my own, but I've played a few with my brother quite a few years ago.. but I'd always been the free spirit just doing what I can with my capabilities at the time, but then if there was something that I wanted, then I'd try harder. But for the most part, I was just there just to be there. Kinda like how I am here.

My online metaphor is an accurate facsimile of who I am in RL.

I tend to enjoy the journey more than the goal, but if I set myself to achieving the goal, I will focus myself to that task until it is complete.

With respect to the terminology used in this thread, I would be somewhere in the middle between a power gamer and one who is more casual.

Completely nonchalant about everything. RP or not to RP. Power game or not to power game. I go with the flow mostly, if I'm in a non-typey talky group then I click on the winamp and let the hours widdle away. If I'm in a more social group then the hours go away and I enjoy the time spent.
I like to PvP but I don't mind losing or even having sound tactics as a team as much as trying unique things or pushing the envelope of what's the norm.
I do goofy builds.
I wear whatever armor I feel like despite the stats.
I have fun chatting in character.
I'm ready for a completely relaxed experience in a MMO. If HJ can give me that, then I'm good to go.
For sheer gaming I am expecting more from titles like Warhammer or Conan, but I would like to see a less stressful environment with HJ.

I am the anti-power gamer!

I just like to socialise and if I level, it's almost a happy accident, rather than something I did by design.

I tend to power game in about any game I play. Its usually do to the fact that the stories aren't all that rich so I just end up wanting to pvp anyways and experience the endgame. So hopefully HJ will slow me down a bit.

Amen. That's kinda how I am, although I tend to just do whatever I feel like doing atm in game.

Powergamer is a word that will surely NEVER be associated with my style of play. RP all the way.

I could literally sit in the game for 12 hours and not even earn 1exp. My goal is 100% social with the plan to give depth to the game and make an experience unique for the people around me. there's too many cookie cutter players in MMOs and I've found that people really enjoy metting/seeing somebody different. I get my kicks out of entertaining others. Obviously...

I'll sacrafice any gameplay perks for the sake of RP, including using weapons uncommon with a class, or using a build to suit RP over gameplay. If my character doesn't wear armor, then I'll never have armor. I could really care less about what is normal, stats, equipment, etc. I don't join EXP mashing groups or L33t pvp groups whose only goal is to play perfect. Most of the time you'll see me with other like minded people who are just having a blast.

And ya know what, none of that ever hinders my effectiveness in a group or my ability to level. Stats and equipment are so overrated. In the long run it usually tends to make me a smarter player since I have to rely on brains rather than trust the equipment I have. Of course it takes a few hard lessons before I hone the skills lol.

I get enough stress to perform on my job and the least thing I want when I play a game for fun is pressure to perform. Nope, won't have it. I just play to have fun and shake my head sadly at those who take MMOs more seriously than their life, family, and jobs.

I'm definitely a socialiser. I don't know how I ever existed in any game without a guild or group of friends, haha. They can make or break my gameplay for me and sometimes it will even get to a point where I can't play without them (which is...bad, really, especially when you're trying to accomplish something). Until I'm introduced to that group of friends, though, I'm normally an achiever by myself.

As for RP? I honestly have never done it outside of GS...I never felt the need to, nor could I immerse myself...but HJ will change that. I've been jonesin' for a good RP for a long time now. HJ can't come quick enough! =P

My main character will be the one that everyone tries to avoid simply because he would sooner put a knife in your back than read your name. I will most likely grind with him till my fingers fall off, and once that happens, I play my other characters.

My secondary characters will be focused on much less fighting and more socializing. Granted I will still grind with them abit, but not even half as much as my main.

Yar, I usually write pretty complex plotlines between my characters and avoid all the cliche "fantasy" stories. I do keep a main, but I switch to and from regularly to spread the tails and get each character known. But most all of my characters have a "more than meets the eye" sort of thing going on. I've been known to let things unravel very slowly and NEVER tell/hint about any of my characters...even to the closest friends. Generally I stay in character, and anything that somebody wants to find out about my characters they have to discover in-character...of course I can seldomly be bribed with large amounts of money.

Anyhow, I've worked out most of the plots and details involving 5 characters (thus it'll really tick me off if we can't have at least 5 chars) without getting into too much of the specifics gameplay wise.

Oi, and I'm always up for working out stories or helping people with their own, so feel free to contact me if you want to work on something while we wait for the game. That's basically what a writer does anyway

I have 2 playstyles. When i need to get something done, im pretty hardcore.. i would be that guy who maps dungeons out mentally, uses the most effective kill methods to get things finish. As well, i dont like being ineffective, if i am at X level, i need to have best gear for that level, so i will farm or whatever, with or without my friends i usually play with until i get everything to a point where it should be.

After i finish farming and all that, i do socialize, chat on guild, with friends, there are periods where i log on and dont even leave town, just talk on guild and craft whatever.

I dont strive to be the best.. but chances are, you will know my name for some reason or another if pvp is brought to the front. As long as pvp is based on some skill like fps games, and not pure system mechanics like other MMOs you will hear about me.

Socializer, explorer, adventurer, with no desire to hit end-game within the first two years ;) hehehe... it did take me three years to get my first level 50 in Dark Age of Camelot... and 3 months later I got another 50.

I play casually, usually chatting, and my BF tends to think of games I play as $15/mo graphical chat clients. :D
