so Runaway is finished and there's only one more chapter left

Chapter 44

When the nurses and doctor Cavanaugh had left, Sydney turned to Michael and gave him a look he couldn’t interpret. It was something between being deep in thoughts and nervousness.

“You’re okay that he has your name too, aren’t you?” Sydney asked a bit uncertainly.

“We’re married, of course it’s okay.” Michael laughed.

“Good,” Sydney said relieved, honestly having been worried for a minute.

Before Michael could reply to that doctor Cavanaugh came in again, holding some piece of paper in her hands.

“Sorry, I just need one last piece of information.” She explained.

“Sure.” Sydney nodded smiling.

“Who do you want me to write as father on the birth certificate?” The doctor asked, wanting to know something Sydney never had given a thought.

“Uh…” Sydney stuttered, not knowing what to say. She certainly didn’t want to name the real father.

“Me.” Michael interjected, receiving a stunned look from Sydney.

“But…” Sydney started but Michael didn’t let her finish.

“I want to.” Michael assured her certainly.

“Okay, consider it done.” She smiled and then left the room again, leaving a happily smiling Michael and a confused Sydney behind.

“Why did you…” Sydney looked at him irritated.

“Since we’re officially married I thought it’s a good idea. Does it bother you?” Michael asked, slightly concerned that he maybe should have talked with Sydney about this before.

“No,” Sydney shook her head and smiled brightly, “I just would have never expected that.”

“Yeah, that’s me. Always surprising.” Michael chuckled and Sydney rolled her eyes in response, then she couldn’t help but yawn.

“I think you should sleep now.” Michael said softly.

“Yeah, you gonna stay, right?” Sydney asked, sounding a bit scared. Her parents were still here and with Michael she felt saver.

“Of course.” Michael nodded, “I’ll just tell Amy and Eric that they can go home now.”

“’k.” Sydney mumbled tiredly. Giving her baby, who was laying next to her in a cradle one last look, she closed her eyes and soon was fallen asleep.

When Sydney woke up the next day she didn’t feel really rested. She still felt tired and just wanted to close her eyes. Then she remembered what had woken her up in the first place. The crying of a baby. Her baby.

Then her gaze wandered to Michael who was still sitting in the chair next to her, or better at the moment lying half on her bed. She wondered how he could sleep when the baby was crying. Then again, it had been a long day.

Soon after she had woken up, doctor Cavanaugh came in and gave her a smile. “How are you feeling today?”

“Tired but much better.” Sydney replied yawning.

“Good, we want to make a few more examinations with Ryan, is that okay?” She asked.

“Something wrong?” Sydney asked concerned.

“No, that’s standard.” The doctor said calming.

“Okay,” Sydney sighed relieved, “Do you have to take him with you?”

“Um yes.” She replied hesitantly, sensing that Sydney didn’t really like the idea. “You don’t have to worry.” She tried to assure her.

“It’s just, my parents.” Sydney said worried.

“I can go with him.” Sydney almost jumped hearing the voice behind her, not having noticed that Michael had woken up.

“That’ll be great.” Sydney smiled at him gladly.

“No problem.” Michael said, stretching and rubbing his eyes.

Outside the room he saw Sydney’s parents and the social still waiting. He didn’t get what they still wanted here. Hadn’t they understood that Sydney didn’t want to see them again, let alone go back with them? Angrily he walked over to where they were sitting.

“What do you still want here?” He asked harshly.

“I think that’s none of your business.” Jack replied coldly.

“Sydney doesn’t want to see or go back so just leave.” Michael told him, crossing his arms in front of his chest.

“Well, she won’t have a choice if she wants to keep the baby.” Jack stated, showing no emotions.

“She has a choice, you don’t have anything against her.” Michael replied, inwardly smiling since he knew that he and Sydney were married. They didn’t.

“Mr. Shaw here might have a different opinion and that’s the one that counts.” Irina said, speaking for the first time.

“Oh really? Sydney has a place to live, is married, therefore the child has a father and I’m gonna start as lawyer in my dad’s firm in September so we have all we need to take care of a baby.” Michael said, smiling as he saw the faces of Sydney’s parents fall.

“She’s what?” Jack asked stunned.

“Married. So if you now would get out of her life and leave.” Michael said harshly and left to follow doctor Cavanaugh to look after the baby like he had promised Sydney.

“That’s it?” Irina looked incredulously at both of them.

“I guess it is. There’s nothing I can do.” Mr. Shaw shrugged and left, leaving a surprised Irina and Jack behind.

Awe I am so glad that Michael put his name as the father. I loved that Irina and Jack can't do anything anymore. Great update. I ca't wait for the last chapter.

lmfao. Jack got OWNED. Hhahaha. Great job...and when Vaugh was all like 'she's married now. LEAVE' it made me happy, cause they're MARRIED.

Wonderful writing -- plot and characterizations.
 
Vaughn by the few words he told them manage to shut them up and crash down any hope they had of bringing Sydney back with them. Her place isn't with them anymore, it's with her husband and child :D
Hope they will get the message and leave her alone with her family, and not try to cause new pbs :(

My opinion of Shaw has just gone up!

Well, Jack and Irina. You didn't think it could happen that Sydney would foil your plans. But with Michael's help, she did. You better start respecting your son-in-law, because he's a lot smarter than the two of you are. :lol:
