Great update Vaughn better be okay because he can't die. Thanks for all the PM's and sorry I didn't reply in so long.

Sydney forced a smile as a pang shot through her heart. She hadn’t realized until just then that losing Michael meant losing everyone in his family.
:( Awww :(

“MICHAEL CHRISTIAN VAUGHN!”

Michael stopped skating immediately and froze. He knew that voice. Looking over to the side of the rink where he was practicing before the game, he saw his mother standing there looking furious and his father looking mortified, hiding his head in his hands.

“GET OVER HERE!” his mother yelled.
Bahahahaha :D GO AMELIA!!! *cheers* hahaha

“Dad... is that hockey?” she asked as she looked at the screen.

“Oh, yes, well... I started watching some of the Flyers games here and there,” Jack told her.

“But you hate hockey,” Sydney said in disbelief.

“Well, I’m warming up to it.” He smiled.
 lol Yay :D Jack's just a big softy  lol

“It looks like Vaughn is down, man that puck really hit him,” the announcer said over the TV. “Is he moving? No... I don’t think so... the medics are going out to him now.”

Chapter 83
“Sydney, you have to calm down,” Jack tried to soothe his frantic and shaking daughter.

“But he... and he’s not... and I... and he...,” she choked out.

“Sydney, Sydney he’s going to be fine,” Jack assured her.

“But he wasn’t moving!” she sobbed.

“It’s fine, he probably just got knocked out,” Jack told her. She whimpered desperately and Jack panicked. “I mean, he was probably... he’ll be fine.”

“I know but... but oh, BILL!” Sydney shouted.

“What?” Jack asked.

“Bill, Michael’s father. He goes to all Michael’s home games,” Sydney said frantically as she reached for her cell phone. Her hands trembled as she tried to push the tiny numbers on her phone. Finally, the call sent and she held the phone to her ear, waiting for an answer. “Bill I... what?... Okay I’ll be there,” she said quickly into her phone.

“What? What?” Jack asked.

“Hospital, gotta go,” she said before rushing to grab her coat and racing out the door. While she was frantically driving to the hospital, any thought of their fight was pushed from her mind. She just wanted him to be ok. She needed him to be ok. She was going to find him and tell him that she loved him and it didn’t matter anymore what they said, at least not to her anyway. She’d be with him if he wanted her and she prayed to God that he did.

Running through the halls of the hospital, she had absolutely no idea where she was going until she heard Amelia calling her name. “Oh thank god!” Sydney sighed, wiping the stray tears from her cheeks. “I was watching and... I came as fast as I could, traffic was... what happened?”

“He got hit in the face with a puck. His jaw is shattered,” Amelia said gravely.

“What? Oh god...,” Sydney sighed as a fresh onslaught of tears poured down her cheeks. She felt utterly sick. Michael was hurt; injured; broken.

“They’re going to take him to surgery in a few minutes to repair it, but you could probably talk to him if you want,” Amelia told her.

Sydney took a deep breath and nodded. Amelia then directed Sydney towards a room to the left. When she stepped inside and saw him, she breathed in sharply. His face was bloody and already swollen. It physically pained her to seem him that way. A nurse was hovering over him so she approached cautiously.

“Who are you?” the nurse asked.

“I’m his... his fiancée,” Sydney said quietly.

“Oh, I’ll give you a moment then.” The nurse smiled as she stepped away.

Sydney approached Michael very slowly. When she was standing beside him, she slipped her hand gently in his. His eyes were shut and she wasn’t sure if he was awake. “Michael,” she began quietly. “Michael it’s me...,” she sighed; he squeezed her hand. “You can hear me?” He squeezed it again.

“Okay,” she sniffed. “Michael I’m so sorry, about everything and I...what?” she asked. He had taken his hand out of hers and was gesturing with it. His eyes were still closed and he wasn’t speaking. “You want something to write with?” Sydney asked him. He found her hand once more and squeezed it. “Okay, hold on,” she sniffed as she dug through her purse for the pen and paper she always kept. She put the pen in his left hand and the paper in his lap.

He struggled for a moment running his hands over the paper, trying to find a place to write. Then, he scrawled and incredibly sloppy message on the page, but Sydney understood. She picked it up and read it three times over, since it was difficult through her tears. Marry me still?. “Yes of course. Of course, of course, I’ll marry you.” She sniffed as she brought his hand to her face and kissed it. “I’ll be right here when you get out, ok?” He squeezed her hand. “Okay,” she sighed as the nurse came back in. “I love you, I’ll be waiting.” He squeezed her hand once more before she released it and walked back out to where Bill and Amelia were waiting.

“Did you talk to him?” Amelia asked.

“Yeah,” Sydney sniffed as she nodded her head and brushed the remaining tears away. Amelia pulled her into a tight hug and Sydney hugged back just as tightly. “Oh! Oh no, I have to feed Margie....,” Sydney sighed when she pulled out of the embrace.

“Well go,” Amelia told her. “They told us the surgery would take no less than two or three hours, so you have plenty of time.”

“Okay,” Sydney nodded. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

Sydney rushed home, driving no less than ten miles an hour above the speed limit the whole way. She quickly threw some food and water into Margie’s bowls and then rushed around the house collecting things she’d need. She figured that Michael would have to be in the hospital at least a few days and he would need things and so would she, since she didn’t plan on leaving at all in that time.

After changing her own clothes and throwing the items she had collected into a tote bag, she raced out the door, anxious to get back to the hospital even if she did have a few hours to wait until Michael was out of surgery. The whole time she couldn’t stop shaking. She was worried about Michael being hurt and what would happen in the days to come.

Chapter 84
“Hey, did I miss it? What’s happening? What’s going on?” Sydney asked in one long breath as she raced up to Amelia and Bill, who were sitting in the surgery waiting room.

“No, sweetie, you didn’t miss anything. They just took him into surgery twenty minutes ago,” Amelia told her.

“Ohh, alright,” Sydney sighed as she collapsed into a chair beside Amelia. She was only sitting a moment before she jumped up. “Oh! My dad, I should call him.... I was eating dinner with him when I saw the game,” Sydney explained further to Amelia when she looked curious.

“Ohh right, of course,” Amelia nodded. Sydney walked off to find a pay phone but found they were all occupied, so she took the elevator down to the ground floor and stepped out into the parking lot where she could call her father.

“Dad, hi...”

“Sydney, I was hoping I’d hear from you. Did you see Michael?” he asked.

“Yeah, um, he’s in surgery now. He shattered his jaw,” Sydney sighed, horrified that those words were coming out of her mouth.

“Ohh,” she heard her father sigh heavily through the other end of the phone. “That’s awful. I hope the surgery goes well.”

“Yeah, me too.”

“Well, um, let me know how it went then, alright?” Jack asked.

“Yeah, sure,” she said.

“Alright Sydney, talk to you later.”

“Bye Dad,” she said before hanging up. She had only taken one step towards the hospital entrance when her phone rang and she answered it. She didn’t even get a chance to say hello before a frantic voice started screaming on the other end of the line.

“Sydney Bristow, I’m going to kill you! Why haven’t you been answering your phone?! Why aren’t you at your house?! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU!!! This is an emergency!” Francie screamed.

“Fran, chill, I’m at the hospital,” Sydney said.

“Wait, are you ok!?” Francie gasped.

“Yes, I’m with Michael.”

“Ohhh thank god! How is Michael?! Wait, how are you and Michael?!” Francie asked.

“Michael and I are fine; engagement is back on,” Sydney told her.

“Ohh thank god!” Francie said, her voice happier.

“Michael’s not so good though...”

“Oh no, what happened? I saw him get hit, but it happened so fast that I wasn’t sure...”

“He shattered his jaw,” Sydney told her.

“Ohh no!” Francie said sadly. “That’s awful. Is he in surgery?”

“Yeah, for about a half an hour now. They think it will be another few hours though, I think,” Sydney said.

“Oh girl, I’m so sorry. Is there anything I can do for you?” Francie asked.

“Yeah, um, could you feed Margie tomorrow morning? I don’t think I’ll be leaving the hospital,” Sydney asked her.

“Sure, absolutely. I’ll go over around seven. Is that ok?” Francie asked.

“Yep, thanks Fran. You’re the best.”

“Ah, nah, you are,” Francie told her. “Tell Michael I hope he feels better, ok? And keep me posted.”

“I will. Thanks Fran,” Sydney said before hanging up her phone and going back inside to Bill and Amelia.

“I just spoke with Jessica, the boys are sick so they can’t come, but they want us to call the second he gets out of surgery,” Amelia told her.

“Ohh ok good,” Sydney sighed as she sat down beside her once more.

“So, um, when you talked to Michael, did he say anything? Well I mean, no, he couldn’t speak...,” Amelia said nervously.

“No, I gave him a pen and paper,” Sydney told her.

“Ohhh,” Amelia nodded. Then she was silent for a moment. “Did he apologize for being a jerk?”

“Amelia....” Bill sighed exasperatedly.

“What?” she practically snapped at her husband.

“Leave them alone,” Bill told her.

“But!” she protested.

“He asked if I’d still marry him,” Sydney told her. Amelia’s head snapped towards Sydney and she looked overly excited and anxious. “Oh, I said yes, by the way.” Sydney smiled at her. Amelia squealed and hugged Sydney tightly.

“See, I knew it would work out!” Amelia grinned.

“Yeah,” Sydney laughed. “So, um, what even happened? I wasn’t exactly watching the game...”

“Well, I’m not sure either,” Amelia said. “Bill, you saw it, right?”

“Yeah, he was skating towards the goal. Someone from the other team took a shot and bam he was on the ice. It was so fast, I don’t think he knew what happened,” Bill told them.

“Ohh poor Michael,” Sydney sighed.

“What happened?! Is he dead?! MOVE LADY! What happened?!” Eric shouted as he ran towards them, shoving people in his path out of the way.

“Eric, what are you doing?” Sydney gasped.

“We just got out of that stupid game! What happened to Michael?!” he questioned.

“He’s in surgery. His jaw is shattered,” Sydney told him.

“felgercarb, no way!” Eric gasped. Sydney nodded. “Damn it, I’m gonna kill that asshole. He did it on purpose, I know it. Some of the guys are waiting in the parking lot to kill him.”

“What?!” Sydney gasped. “You’d better be kidding.”

“Of course not,” Eric said. Sydney rolled her eyes and mumbled something under her breath about stupid jocks. “So how long is the surgery?”

“We don’t know,” Amelia told him.

“Oh....,” Eric sighed as he sat down beside Sydney to wait.

~*~

Two hours later Sydney had fallen asleep but Amelia woke her up gently when the doctor came over to talk to them. “The surgery went well,” the doctor said. “The left side of his jaw was broken pretty badly, but the right side was fine. We put some screws and pins in to hold his jaw together and then we had to wire it shut so it would heal properly.”

“Wire it shut?” Sydney grimaced at the mere thought of that.

“Yes,” the doctor nodded. “We’d like to keep him a few more days for observation, but then he can go home as long as someone is there to care for him.”

“That’s me,” Sydney said.

The doctor nodded towards her. “Any questions?”

“How long will his jaw have to be wired?” Bill asked.

“Depends on how quickly he heals, but a few weeks,” the doctor told him.

“Can we see him?” Sydney asked.

“Sure, he’s still asleep from the anesthesia now, but he should be waking up within the hour,” the doctor told them before leading them to the recovery room Michael was in.

Tears came to both Sydney’s and Amelia’s eyes the moment they saw Michael. His face was still covered in deep red dried blood in some parts and his head was bandaged. Upon closer examination, the wires in his mouth horrified Sydney so badly that she couldn’t contain her tears anymore and they began to spill down her face. She sat down beside his bed, took his hand and held it tightly as she watched over him.
