I think the other thing is, is that bullet proof vests in reality are more like 'bullet resistant'....they're not 100% and he DID get shot a point blank range...not to mention...vests can only protect the parts they're COVERING....Syd couldn't possibly know that the bullet had indeed been caught...

that's what's so great about the writing...it runs in circles but is always different...they run parallels to remind us of the past...but they are always moving us forwards...it almost makes nice bookends...if you know what i mean...
