Once again, we wake up to learn of this year's Emmy nominations only to be confronted with what looks like a carbon copy of past years' lists. So predictable, such a letdown. The situation is especially aggravating in the drama categories, where fresh and bold shows like NBC's Boomtown, HBO's The Wire, FX's The Shield and ABC's Alias were squeezed out of best series consideration.

Another positive: the 11 nominations for cult fave Alias, including acting nods for Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber and (brava!) Lena Olin. Nice to know the Emmys aren't all about ratings. And if ever a show needed the promotional boost, it's this one.
