Milo was a time-travelling Marshal, gone round the twist after insert bad event here and getting sent back in time through accidental use of an Ancient device. His devices were ancient in origin. He'd been recruited after it was discovered by McKay that Rambaldi artefacts were Ancient devices, on loan from the CIA, and it was an accident after he learned to reproduce many of the devices that sent him back.
In the present, afterward, Sydney finds another journal of 'Milo', from before Milo's job as chief architect, in an odd script combination of various languages - in fact, the DSR tell Sydney that they've identified all the languages used, and the only two people on the planet that know all of those languages are Daniel Jackson, and Sydney Bristow. Daniel has translated a single page, and realised it was written by Marshal in the past - not Milo. In it was a message to Sydney. The DSR believe that Milo and Marshal are one and the same,, as details that Marshall spoke of in particular correlate to the known history of Rambaldi, or something.
