OK, you are killing me here!   I have gone through 5 kleenex just reading this chapter.  No way will I be able to even see the keyboard to write anything remotely intelligent after reading this.  Great job.  And I have decided that in no way to I ever want to face a situation like this.  I also am curious.  How in the world do you think up these story lines anyway?
Thanks for the PM

a little A/N about this: if you recall in the first part, Michael mentions that he and Sydney got married at 18, much to the dismay of their parents
well, this is how they got married and the subsequent parental 'dismay' so, it takes place 22 years before the first part
btw this is kinda long - sorry

Part 2: Fighting for Tomorrow

“Hey babe,” I smile at her as she walks towards me down the hallways of our high school. It's the end of another Monday and thank god we only have four left before graduation, Monday's that is.

“Hi,” she sighs rather sadly.

“What's wrong?”

“Nothing, just tired, bored, don't want to be here, etcetera,” she smiles.

“Right,” I laugh. “Ready to go then?”

“Yep.”

“You two are nauseating.” Eric, my best friend (best male friend), groans beside me.

“Eric, we're always this way,” I tell him.

“I know, it's disgusting. You two are like an old married couple, jeez.”

“You're just jealous.” Sydney smiles as she wraps her arms around my waist.

“Right.” He scoffs.

“Okay, okay, we're going. See you tomorrow,” I say to Eric as I slam my locker door closed and walk with Sydney out to the parking lot. “Have any homework?”

“Are you kidding?” She laughs. “It’s the first week of May, senior year. I have senioritis to the exponential degree, not to mention the fact that two of my classes are independent studies that I finished last week!”

“So, that's a no then.” I laugh at her.

“No, that's a hell no.” She grins.

“My mistake.” I laugh. “I’ve got this math quiz on Wednesday. I don't think I understand it, though.”

“Want help?” She offers.

“Maybe,” I say. “I'm going to try the practice problems and if I get them wrong then I’ll need help.”

“Okay,” she laughs.

We go back to my house, where my room is in the basement, and we sit down there to do our homework, like we have been doing for the past six years, well, longer than that even. Occasionally we'll work up in my parent’s dining room or over at Sydney’s just to mix it up a little, but usually we're right here. I'm killing myself over my math problems and Sydney's lying across my bed, popping her bubble gum and reading People magazine. Sometimes, I hate her.

Screw this, I’ll do it later. Besides, there's something more important I need to talk about with Sydney.

“Hey Syd,” I say as I get up from my desk and approach her.

“Need help?” she asks, not looking up from the page of Brad Pitt she's drooling over but hiding it from me because she knows it bugs me and I’ll tease her about it.

“No, I just wanted to say something," I say as I walk to the CD player and pop in a disc.

She raises her head and looks at me curiously once the music plays. “Whatcha gonna do? Dance?”

“Ha. Ha,” I say dryly. “You know I don't dance.”

“But you should. Come on, dance for me,” she smiles.

“No,” I say firmly.

“Strip then.” She grins playfully.

“Sydney Anne!” I scold as I throw a pillow at her face.

“Kidding,” she giggles as she catches the pillow. “So, what's with the song? This is very un-Michael Vaughn music. Unless you suddenly became ghetto Vaughn."

“Ghetto Vaughn?!” I laugh. She’s right though, this is very un-me music.

“Yes, you, ghetto Vaughn. I swear though, if you start wearing those black stockings on your head I reserve the right to kill you because you’re so damn white!”

I laugh louder. “You’re nuts, and I won’t be wearing a stocking on my head.”

“Good.”

Anyway, this song is inspiration for something,” I tell her. It’s true, I heard it on the radio and... here we are.

“Okay?” She asks curiously.

“I think we should get married,” I say quickly. Okay, she’s laughing at me. This isn’t the reaction I was hoping for. “Syd,” I whine, trying to get her to stop.

“Michael, what are you talking about? We’re already engaged. You proposed at Christmas, remember?” she tells me while flashing the ring on her left hand; the ring that I gave her. It looks real, but it’s not. Well, the gold is real but the diamond is fake. I promised her that one day I’ll get her a real diamond, though. No matter how many jobs I have to work, I’ll get her one. I never break my promises.

“Yes, I know that,” I sigh. “I mean we should get married.”

“Wait, serious?” she asks in disbelief. I nod. “You mean now?”

“No, not now, now, but soon.”

“How soon?”

“I dunno... Friday is senior skip day...” I laugh, joking.

“Okay,” she says seriously.

Now I’m confused. “Wait, what?”

“Okay,” she repeats.

“You wanna get married on Friday?!” I ask, my heart now pounding in my chest.

“Sure.” She shrugs.

“REALLY?!”

“Michael!”

“Sorry.” I laugh.

“It’s just...,” she begins. “I want to marry you. I know that I’m going to want to marry you in five years on in five minutes so what’s the point in waiting? Besides, we never do anything crazy so...,” she smiles.

“Well, this is crazy.” I laugh.

“Yeah,” she smiles as she gets off the bed and walks over to me. I take her hands in mine. “We’re getting married in four days.” She giggles.

“Oh, god, wow...,” I sigh. That’s not scary, it’s just... wow.

“We can’t tell anyone,” she says. “Our parent’s.... well, they wouldn’t be calm about this.”

“No,” I laugh. “They’d try and talk us out of it.”

“Yeah, but, we’re 18. We’re adults. We can do this if we want to,” she says.

I smile and kiss her. “I want to.”

“I want too,” she sighs. “Oh my god, we’re getting married!! This is insane! Is this insane?” she asks.

“Yeah, it is, but it’s good.” I smile.

“Really good,” she smiles back. “Okay, so, if we’re going to do this, we need a license right?”

“Right,” I say. Looking at my watch I see that it’s after five. “We can’t get it today, but we’ll go tomorrow right after school.”

“Okay.” She smiles.

“Um, what do you want to wear?” I ask, knowing that she’ll care.

“Oh, um, oh! My dress for graduation. I just bought it last week. It’s white and pretty,” she tells me.

“Good, I’ll just wear my black suit.”

“Okay.” She laughs. “Do we need anything else?”

“Rings!” I gasp.

“Ohh right, um, we can go to the jewelry store in the mall on Wednesday after school. You buy mine; I’ll buy yours.” She tells me.

“Okay.” I smile. “Is that everything?”

“I think so.” She laughs as she throws her arms around me. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” I sigh as I kiss her neck.

~*~

This week has been nuts. Doing all this running around and keeping it secret from everyone has been hard, but we managed it. Sydney and I were both giggly as we signed our names to the marriage license and then got a form so Sydney could legally change her last name to Vaughn. We were concerned that it wouldn’t be processed in time for Friday, but the woman behind the counter insisted that we were so adorable she’d make sure it was ready.

Then, we went and got our rings, which wasn’t that great. The guy selling the jewelry was rather rude to us but, we got them and hid them in my room until this morning. I’ll be glad when we don’t have to sneak around anymore, it’s getting tiring. This morning, Friday morning, we went to school and dropped Sydney’s younger sister Nadia off before going back to my house, which was empty since my parents both work, and changing into our wedding attire. Now, we’re at the courthouse waiting for our 12:30 appointment with the judge. Looking over at Sydney, I see she looks uncertain. “Syd.” I say.

“Hmm?” She looks over at me.

“Are you ok?”

“Yeah, I’m just thinking,” she tells me.

“About?”

“Us.”

“More specifically...,” I lead her.

She shrugs. “Just everything. Our first real kiss, remember that?”

“Of course.” I smile. It was Sydney’s twelfth birthday party, her first ‘party’ party that I was invited too. Usually she had sleepovers that were no-boys-allowed, which meant that I was not welcome, not that I would have wanted to go at that age anyway. Sydney and I were very best friends at that point, but just friends. That year, Sydney was having a co-ed party in her back yard, which meant I could go. I went and....

“Happy Birthday Sydney,” I smile nervously at her. I don’t know why I’m nervous around her. I’m never nervous around Sydney. But suddenly, this morning she looked different to me. She’s twelve now. A whole year older, and she looks it.

“Thanks Michael.” She smiles back at me.

“Here,” I say as I hand her the package I wrapped so meticulously.

“Thanks,” she giggles as she takes it and rips off the paper. Inside are earrings that my mom helped me pick out. Sydney’s twelfth birthday present from her parents was getting her ears pierced so, I decided to get her the earrings. “Oh, I love them, thank you! As soon as I can change the ones I have in now, I’ll wear these.”

“Good.” I say. She leans in to kiss me on the cheek like usual, but purposely, I turn my head and our lips smash together quite awkwardly. She looks stunned so, like the idiot I am, I kiss her again.

“Why did you do that?” She asks.

“I don’t know.” Really, I don’t know. I have
no idea in the world why god made me this stupid. WHY AM I SO STUPID!!

“Oh, okay,” she says distantly as she walks away.

God, even though we’ve come so far since then, I’m still turning red from mentally reliving that embarrassing moment.

Sydney giggles. “In hindsight I feel so bad.”

“Yeah, yeah.” I roll my eyes.

“I made it up to you though.” She smiles.

“Yeah, you did.” Boy, did she ever.

Sydney hasn’t talked to me in a week!! A whole week! God, this is awful. She’s never not talked to me for this long before. Why did I have to kiss her!? WHY!! Oh no, she’s waking across the street now. A few months ago, before school started, her parents moved to that house. On purpose I think. They were probably sick of having to drive one of us to the other’s house. Oh felgercarb, she’s coming closer to me. felgercarb! I can’t move. felgercarb I don’t know what to say. Oh double felgercarb, I’m sweating.

“Hi,” she says quietly.

“Hi,” I croak back. She’s looking down at the ground, shuffling her feet nervously back and forth.

“Michael, um, do you want to be my boyfriend?”

I think. My heart. Just stopped. “What?” I gasp.

“Sorry that was so stupid,” she sighs as she goes to walk away.

“No, wait,” I say loudly, catching up to her and turning her to face me. “I want to be your boyfriend.” Oh my god, Sydney is my first girlfriend. Wait a second, Sydney was my first kiss. Holy felgercarb I kissed a girl!! Wow, I’m really slow this week...

She smiles her perfect smile. “Really?”

“Yeah really.” I tell her. She grins, throws her arms around my neck and kisses me again, less awkwardly this time. Wow, I could so get used to this...

“Remember when we broke up?” I ask her. It was for three months in between my sixteenth birthday and hers.

“Yeah,” she laughed softly. “Whose dumb idea was that?”

“Uh, that’s was yours.” I tell her.

“Ohh right.”

“Michael, we need to talk,” she says to me.

I’ve only been sixteen for two months but I know that is very, very bad. “Okay?”

“I think we should break up,” she says bluntly.

I think I’m going to puke. “WHAT?!” I gasp.

“It’s just... we’ve been together since we were 12! I mean, that’s four years. Four whole years and we’re only sixteen!”

“I fail to see your point....,” I tell her honestly as the room begins to spin.

“My point is, we need to see other people,” she says.

“Did you cheat on me?!” I blurt out.

“God no! No, never, I just... I don’t know. I think we just need some time apart. I still love you Michael.”

“Yeah whatever,” I say bitterly as I walk away from her.

Being the stupid male that I am I did the stupid ‘I’m going to be pissed off and bitter and pretend I’m not hurt when really, I’m crushed’ thing. It only took a day for our breakup to circulate around the school (what can I say, news travels fast and we were the most widely known couple in school), and once they found out it was Sydney who broke up with me, I had a crowd of desperate girls following me everywhere, trying to ‘take away my pain’. So, I dated one of them, for like, a day. Well, really it was a week, but once I kissed her, I realized that Sydney was the only person I wanted to kiss.

Meanwhile, I knew Sydney was miserable right away, but she’s also stubborn. She would have come crawling back if she hadn’t been so damn stubborn. Instead, she dated some meathead for a few weeks which drove me absolutely insane. Then, she broke up with him and moped until I finally went to her and used some tough love.

“What do you want?” she asks rather rudely when she opens her front door.

“So now I can’t even talk to you?” I ask, offended.

“No, but you haven’t.” she says sadly.

“Oh, I forget, who broke up with whom again?” She looks hurt. “Can I come in?”

“Fine,” she sighs, opening the door wide enough for me to enter.

“Are you miserable?” I ask her.

“No,” she says defiantly. She’s lying through her teeth.

“You’re a horrible liar.”

“I’m not lying!” She insists.

“Damn right you are. Admit you’re miserable. Admit this was a mistake. Admit you want us so we can move past this whole stuipdness and get back to being happy,” I tell her.

“You’re so...”

“Right.” I finish for her.

“No.” She narrows her eyes and stomps off. I follow her. I know I’ll get her to give in; it’s my gift, what can I say. She stops in the middle of the kitchen, turns around and buries her face in my chest, sobbing. “I’m so sorry.”

“It’s ok.” I try and sooth her. “It’s over, forget about it.”

“I never want to break up again.”

“We won’t. I promise.”

“Bristow, Vaughn.” A woman with cat eye glasses calls for us.

“This is it.” I smile at her.

“Yeah,” she sighs as she gets up and clutches the white rose I gave her to hold. I take her hand and walk with her into the judge’s office.

Once inside, he asks us a few questions, making sure everything’s in order, then, doesn’t believe we’re really eighteen and makes us dig out our driver’s licenses. Finally, he believes us and is about to start the ceremony when Sydney begins to turn about as white as her dress, which might I say, looks gorgeous with her softly curled hair. “Syd?”

“Give us a minute,” she says to the judge as she drags me into a corner of his office. “Are we doing the right thing?”

Immediately I panic. “Oh no, are you bailing out?”

“No, no,” she shakes her head. “It’s just... is this right?”

I sigh. All I can do is be honest with her. “It’s going to be hard. We don’t have a place to live... we’re going to college... we’re still in high school! But I want to do this. I want to fight for our tomorrow, because you’re the one I want to spend it with. Nobody else.”

She smiles and nods. “I want to fight. School’s getting to easy anyway. I want a challenge.”

I laugh. God, I love this woman. “Good.”

Fifteen minutes later, we’re married. Holy s***, we’re married. I have a wife. Wow. The judge’s secretary, who apparently finds us even more adorable than the woman at the marriage license place, snaps a picture of us with the camera we brought. Then, we go to my car and sit there, freaking out for a few minutes. “What now?” I ask. “You wanna go... I don’t know!” I laugh.

“Let’s go back to your house,” she says. I look at her and it takes me a minute before I realize what she’s implying. Once I realize, my face turns red hot and I’m sure I’m bright pink. She smiles nervously and turns pink as well. The thing is, Sydney and I haven’t... which means neither of us have... which means.... this is going to be an interesting afternoon.

“O-okay.” I stammer. “We’re married so we can... yeah...”

“Michael, we don’t have to if you don’t...,” she says nervously.

“No! No, I just, I wasn’t really thinking about that.” Oh my god, who am I? Every member of the male species now has every right to kick my ass. Ah hell, it’s the truth. I just wanted to be able to call Sydney my wife, this is just... a bonus.

“Oh,” she blushes even deeper.

~*~

We fell asleep. We fell asleep here in my bed and we just woke up. I have no idea what time it is, but I don’t care at all, because we’re here, in each other’s arms. I’m naked in bed with my naked wife. This has been one hell of a day. I hear footsteps. Good moment over. Oh f***!

We both look towards the door of my room just as my dad is walking by. s***. We’re caught. We’re so caught. We’re so, so, so, so, so freakin’ caught. Sydney’s panicking. I’m panicking. My dad’s eyes are darting between us and the pile of underwear and other clothes on the floor beside my bed which he can see quite clearly from his position.

“I’m... I’m gonna pretend I never saw this,” he says quietly before practically running away.

“Oh no.” Sydney sighs. “Oh no, oh no, oh no.”

“Yeah...,” I sigh. Honeymoon’s over. Quickly, we dress. “What are we going to do now?”

“Well, I think we should wait until after dinner to tell them. They’re going to freak otherwise. Well, they’re going to freak no matter what,” she says.

“Right...,” I say. “Okay so, seven then? Bring your parents over, make something up.”

“Okay.” She nods. Then, she kisses me. “I love you and I’m glad I’m your wife.”

I smile. “I’m glad you’re my wife, too. felgercarb, it’s after five, you’d better get home.”

“Okay.” She says. We kiss once more before going up the basement stairs.

“Oh, Sydney I didn’t know you were here.” My mother smiles at her. My dad gives a suspicious cough and disappears into the kitchen. I panic.

“Well, I was just going home for dinner. See you later,” she says as she quickly leaves the house.

“Why was Sydney so dressed up?” Mom asks me. “Wait, why are you so dressed up?”

“Um, it was this thing...,” I say evasively. “I should change out of these before dinner though,” I say before racing back down stairs. When I return more casually dressed, my mom is in the kitchen and my dad is reading the paper in the family room. I choose Dad, the lesser of two evils, cram my left hand in my pocket and go sit down near him, silently.

Awkward. So awkward. “Dad I...”

“I didn’t see a thing,” he says. “But if I did...,” now, he looks up from his paper. “You’re eighteen Michael, you’re a man. You can make your own decisions. And Sydney is well... you two... just, be careful.”

I nod. “Thanks.”

“Oh and, don’t let your mother find out,” he adds. Considering I wanted neither of them to find out, ever, until I have children and even then..., that won’t be a problem.

Dinner was painful. I wonder how Sydney’s doing. Keeping my left hand hidden was difficult without being to suspicious. I realize I could have just taken off the ring but... I don’t want to take it off ever. Finally, I bite the bullet. “So um, the Bristow’s are coming over at seven.”

“You’re just telling us now?!” my mother gasps, clearly infuriated.

“We’re just going to talk outside for a few minutes. Sydney and I want to tell you guys something.”

“What?” she asks.

“At seven...,” I tell her.

By six forty-five I’m pacing the front walk, waiting for them. I can’t stand being inside with them looking at me, trying to see through me. Thank god, I see them. The Bristow’s don’t look much happier than my parents do, but at least Sydney’s still smiling so they haven’t found out yet.

We take them all in the back yard where they give polite ‘hello, how are you’s. Our parents have never been buddy, buddy, just cordial because they know that Sydney and I are... well, us.

“Okay, so, we’re not going to drag this out. We got married today.” I say, very bluntly. I’m met with four blank stares. I think they think it’s a joke.

“What?” Sydney’s mother is the first to speak.

“Michael and I got married,” Sydney says to her.

“YOU WHAT?!” All four of them screech. Jack looks like he’s about to pop a blood vessel. s***, I’m going to die.

“We went to the court house, got a license, and got married.” I explain to them. Oh this is much worse than I thought.

“You’re serious? This is for real?” my mother asks. Both Sydney and I nod.

“THIS IS COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE!!” Oh god, the wrath of Jack. “This is, without a doubt, the most... most... I can’t even!... You’re getting it annulled!”

“What?! Dad, no!” Sydney says firmly.

“Annulled. You cannot be married. You’re too young!” he screams.

“NO!” Sydney screams back.

“You cannot come back into my house young lady. That’s it; you’re on your own. See how much you like marriage when you’re living in a rat infested apartment with drive-by shootings outside!” He screams in a very horrifying, scary tone.

“JACK!” His wife barks at him.

“This is ridiculous! They don’t even know.... they’re... they haven’t even graduated high school yet for Christ’s sakes!” Jack is still yelling, he seems to be the only one who has regained verbal ability. My mom looks stunned and my dad, who looks as though he’s finally beginning to put the puzzle pieces of today together, is staying silent.

“Out!” Jack yells at Sydney. “Go, get your things right now!”

“Dad!” she sobs. Now I need to protect her.

“Just hold on a second!” I say, getting brave now that she’s crying. Jack gives me a death glare like I’ve never seen before; I gulp.

“Wait, hold on,” my mom finally breaks her silence. “Jack, this isn’t the way to do this.”

“They’ll just become another divorce statistic!” He shouts.

“I know you’re upset!” my mom shouts back. “But if you act this way, you’ll only make sure that comes true, we need to help them, not hurt them.” Wow, I so love my mom right now.

“They’re adults; they chose this, now they have to live with it!” Jack says harshly.

“Well, just because you’re clearly not going to help, doesn’t mean we can’t,” my dad finally speaks. Yes! I love my parents so much!

“Sydney, Michael go inside, we need to discuss this,” my mom says to us. Sydney and I gladly back away into the house where it’s dark and we can listen at the screened patio door without being noticed because of the dusk light outside.

“This is absurd.” Jack throws his hands up in the air.

“We all just need a deep breath here.” Mom says. “Sydney and Michael are rational people... this just... this...”

“Maybe she’s pregnant.” My dad offers. OH MY GOD I’m sooooo killing him for that later. The four of them look horrified.

“I’m not pregnant!” Sydney shouts.

“Oh this is stupid, just come back out here.” Mom tells us. Slowly, we emerge. They’re glaring at us.

“Why?” Sydney’s mother asks, sounding very lost.

Sydney shrugs. “We were already engaged.”

“That was serious!?” Jack gasps.

“We knew it was serious.” Mom says. “We just though you’d wait until at least after you graduated.”

“NO! After college.” Jack says. “She must have been tricked!”

“DAD!” Sydney gasps.

“That is our son,” Dad defends me.

Jack’s face falls, hopefully realizing the mistake he made. “I do not have a problem with your son. He has been good to Sydney. I have no reason to dislike him. This marriage however...”

“Look.” Sydney steps forward. “We’re married. You may not like it, but too late. It’s done. We’re not undoing it, so just accept it.”

“But...”

“We know it’s going to be hard,” I jump in. “But we’re willing, ready to work for it. We want this.”

“Yeah,” Sydney agrees.

“Well...,” Mom sighs. “I think that’s as much as we can ask for at this point. You’ve clearly given this some thought.”

“We have,” I say.

“Alright, well, you may stay down in Michael’s room as long as you promise that I won’t be the one doing all your laundry. You have to share cooking too. And jobs, keep the ones you have. Work more hours after graduation. College,” she lists.

I smile. “We will. We’re going to figure it all out. Tomorrow.”

“Tomorrow.” She nods. Then we turn to the rest of them. My father nods in approval. Sydney’s mom nods, knowing she has no choice. Jack just looks away.

“I’m going to go get some of my stuff.” Sydney smile at me. “Thank you so much,” she says to my mom before walking off.

“I’m coming with you,” I say, desperate to get away from the pack of hungry wolves.

“What’s going on?” Nadia asks from her position on the sofa once we walk into Sydney’s house.

“We got married.” Sydney grins as she skips up the stairs.

“HOLY s***!” Nadia gasps.

“Are you allowed to say that word?” I laugh.

“Of course not. Did you really get married?” she asks.

“Yes.”

“Did my dad kill you? Or himself?” Nadia asks curiously.

“Neither, but he’s not very thrilled right now.”

Clearly,” she says. “Oh my god did you guys have sex?!”

“NADIA MARIE!! I heard that!” Sydney screams from upstairs.

“That’s a yes.” She laughs.

“Syd you need help?” I ask, running up the stairs, desperate to get away from Nadia.

“Yeah, ok,” she says in a frazzled manner.

“Syd....”

She throws herself in my arms and hugs me tightly. “They’re so upset!”

“They’ll get over it. They’re just shocked.”

“I know but...,” she whimpers.

“Syd, we’ve only been married for like ten hours, just give it time.” I tell her as I kiss her head.

“You’re right.” She smiles. “I knew I married you for a reason.”

“Of course. Let’s get your stuff.”

After we get a few bags of the important stuff, leaving the rest for tomorrow, we leave and pass Sydney’s parents on the way. I walk ahead, giving her a moment with them.

“This is a mistake.” I hear Jack say to her.

“I’m sorry you feel that way,” she says before walking away. Then, she takes my hand and we walk into my parent’s house. They’re in the back, talking quietly and stealing glances at us. I hate this feeling. Sydney’s upset. I’m upset. This was supposed to be the happiest day of my life and, I guess, if you remove the part after seven o’clock, it was.

“I think... I’m too tired to deal with this stuff tonight.” Sydney sighs as she looks down at the bags and boxes we just brought in.

“So don’t. It’s ok. We have all day tomorrow.” I tell her with a smile.

“Okay.” She smiles back. She digs through one of the bags for a moment before pulling out what I assume are he PJ’s: boxers she stole from me long ago and a tank top. “I can’t change if you’re watching me.”

“Why not?” I laugh.

“Because!” she says nervously. “It’s... it’s too new. I have to ease into it.”

“You’re right.” I sigh as I turn around. Just to spite her, I drop my pants.

“You are an ass!” She laughs. “And not just because that’s the only part of you I can see.”

“Sorry, couldn’t resist.” I smirk.

She shakes her head. “You’re awful.”

“I know. But you love me.” I smile.

“Yeah I do. Sometimes.” She shrugs. I tackle her onto the bed and she laughs and squeals loudly.

“Syd, shh! My parents are right upstairs.”

“Oh god,” she gasps quietly with her hand over her mouth. “Do you think they heard me?”

“I dunno.” I shrug.

“Do you think they think we were...”

“That’s horrifying,” I tell her honestly.

“We cannot have sex with them in the house.” She tells me.

“Noo.” I groan. “We live here. They’re here all the time. We’ll just be quiet.”

“Michael.” She laughs, quieter this time.

“See, that was quiet.” I smile.

“No,” she shakes her head.

“Come on Syd, my pants are already off, don’t make me put them back on!”

“Okay, seriously, this is not a good way to start a marriage,” she says.

“Fine, you’re right, it’s not.” I give up and try to slide away from her, but much to my surprise she flips me over and pins me down on the bed.

“This is.” She smiles.

If this weekend is any indication, we’re in big trouble. The silence, the stares, the awkwardness, it was all awful. Sunday, our wedding was in the paper, so our parents received approximately a million phone calls. Now, it’s Monday morning and we’re going into school early so Sydney can hand in her change of name forms. Everyone’s staring at us. I know they probably think we’re pregnant and honestly, I don’t care. I don’t want that image for us but, it’s going to be there no matter what we do.

“Ho-ly s***! Ya’ll are nuts!” Eric laughs as he comes up to us.

“Good morning to you too, Eric.” I laugh while Sydney goes into the office.

“Dude, you’re married.” Eric says.

“I know.”

“Why’d you do it hmm? Is Syd really pregnant?” he asks quietly.

“She most certainly is not.” I defend.

“Come on man you can tell me.”

“She’s not.” I maintain.

“Then why’d you get married?” he asks.

“Because we’re us.” I smile.

Within a week the whole “OMFG YOU’RE MARRIED!” shock wore off from everyone and they just went back to treating us like we were... us. Because hell, who are we kidding here, Sydney and I have practically been married since the age of twelve. This is no different for us, except we now sleep in the same bed, with some other benefits of marriage. Also in that time, my parents came around. They apologized for being so freaked and actually seemed almost happy about the whole thing.

In another week, Sydney’s mom came over and gave us a similar apology. She said she was just upset about losing her oldest baby girl. Then, she and Sydney cried, until Nadia came over and asked if she could have Sydney’s room and we all started laughing.

Looking back, I know one thing for sure. If Sydney and I hadn’t had our ‘we have to fight for tomorrow’ motto, we wouldn’t have made it. It was hard, really, really hard, but all that hard stuff got us so much good. High school was easy, it was just the same. Graduation when they called “Vaughn, Michael” and “Vaughn, Sydney” was amusing. Then, the summer is where it started getting hard. We both worked full time odd jobs while trying to figure out our life. My parents made us have a plan, so we gave them one.

We were already planning on going to the same college, forty five minutes away from our homes. The school had special dorms for married couples, and we got into one of those. My parents had already agreed to pay half my tuition and they stood by that. Sydney’s parents had made a similar agreement but since her father was less than happy about our marriage he almost backed out. It took myself, Sydney, my parents and Sydney’s mother almost the whole summer to talk him into it. But, he finally broke.

There was no way we could afford an apartment of our own, well, we could have, and we offered, but my parents would not let us live in the area that would have been our income bracket. So, during the summers, we lived in the basement and worked.

It was hard. There were so many fights and not just about each other. We were both extremely stressed from school combined with work and unfortunately we both chose difficult majors. Engineering for me; chemistry for Sydney. We were tired and cranky and stressed and we ended up picking on each other. But, the same though always brought us back.

I want to go to bed beside you, only you and you’re the only one I want to see in the morning.

That was it; that got us through. I now understand why people who marry young don’t make it. You have to want it more than anything and we did.

Senior year was probably the worst of all. Sydney had to quit working, I made her. She was wearing too thin. She was actually physically getting thinner and sicker. I was so worried about her. She spent hours and hours in that stupid chemistry lab and barely surfaced long enough to sleep a few hours and then go back. The reduced income hurt us a bit, but we managed. Thank god we both found jobs after graduation. Good jobs too. Ones that came with pay advances so that we could finally move out of the basement.

It was approaching our five year anniversary by the time we finally got settled. Up until then, Jack had been very cold, bitter and distant towards our marriage. Sure, he was there for the holidays, but he wasn’t friendly. He was convinced we’d fail. Until our fifth anniversary. He came to us and apologized for being wrong. He told us that he didn’t think we were adult enough, but he was wrong. He was glad that he was wrong. That felt good.

If you really want them, fight for your tomorrows, because in the end, they’ll be worth it.

Part 3 will be up... uh the weekend probably ^_^

Janet, :hi:

that was awesome! I'm glad that you took us back in time to see Sydney and Vaughn getting married. You're right, you have to fight for your tomorrows. :coolthumb:

Great job and can't wait for the next one! (y)

I have no idea in the world why god made me this stupid. WHY AM I SO STUPID!!

“Oh, okay,” she says distantly as she walks away.
aww that was sweet!

Wow so they hadn't? That's so cool! I mean they were like both? huh nice :woot:

“What are we going to do now?”

 o my gosh his dad! wow yeah hehehe they fell asleep naked.....michael Vaughn naked.... :woot:
