Expect More

They held Vaughn in captivity for three months before the continued. Sloane looked at Vaughn, as though searching for a response to being abducted in his green eyes. Vaughn had a non-descript expression on, so Sloane continued. “ I suppose you would rather me call you Vaughn, although you know very well it is an alias, and nothing more than that, you are not Michael Vaughn, and you never will be no matter how hard you try to alienate your past.”

Vaughn was silent, staring hard at the linoleum floor. Sloane went on, “I will start from the beginning, so you know why you are back with us, as Mr. Michaux, instead of your charade as Michael Vaughn. I believed Sydney was ‘The Chosen One’ we needed her…”

Sydney was pale, very pale. She got up after hearing the CIA had no leads on Vaughn’s whereabouts and started walking towards her room slowly, for it was no easy feat to walk eight months pregnant with twins. “Syd, what are you doing? You can’t do anything; the CIA is pouring all of their resources into finding Vaughn.” Nadia said, looking concerned. “His name is not Vaughn!” Sydney snarled, very uncharacteristically, due to pregnancy hormones. “And, they don’t have one of their best resources, and an expert on the fugitive,” she continued. I have to go. ”Syd, you know that you are being unreasonable, you are in no state to go anywhere, and the doctor said minimal activity.” “Fine,” she said, clearly defeated, “I’m going to bed.”

The next morning, Nadia and Weiss woke up to the sound of vomiting. “I thought pregnant woman were only supposed to get morning sickness in their first trimester,” “Yeah, go tell Sydney that, say ‘Hey stupid, stop vomiting, you’re not supposed to have it anymore’, she’ll like that,” Nadia replied sarcastically. “Fine, but I feel bad, her husband is supposed to hold her hair back and rub her back,” “You should do that, this time I’m serious.” Weiss got out of bed and walked sleepily over to the bathroom. Where he found Sydney kneeling on the floor, with one hand bracing herself against the toilet, and the other under her swollen stomach as if she was supporting it. Weiss walked over to her and said, “Syd, it’s gonna be okay, it’s alright honey, I’m right here,” in a soothing voice as he rubbed her back and held her hair away from her face. Sydney stopped vomiting, turned her tear-stained face towards Weiss, still crying softly, and she whispered, “Thanks,” and gave him a hug.

“We knew, we being me, Olivia Reed, you have met, and Irina, who you also know, that in order to use Sydney’s potential to the fullest, we couldn’t have her working for SD-6, for when we were shut down, as we knew was inevitable, Sydney would not look suspicious. We needed a mole at the CIA, we found you. We had you secretly working for us as a sleeper agent until Sydney figured out the truth. This was hard to gat her to go to the CIA. But, after studying her SD-6 psych evaluation, Irina knew what to do. Sydney can’t stand to she her piers suffer, so we knew she would tell Danny the truth about her career. We placed a bug on him by having an operative of SD-6’s child go in to be treated for a heart disease. When Sydney broke and told him, Irina had Danny assassinated. Of course, we couldn’t tell you this, because you would object. Anyways, our plan worked, Sydney went to the CIA and turned herself in. With the help of her father though, who also helped in our scheme, although unknowingly. Then we had her go after Rambaldi, she gave you the real artifacts, who in turn gave them to us. It was fool proof. But, then something went wrong and the plan was stopped. Sydney died.”

Sydney yelled from the bathroom later that day, “Nadia!” Weiss answered what because they were so close Weiss didn’t think it mattered who answered. “Nadia, I need Nadia in the bathroom! NOW!” she screamed. Nadia came sprinting in “Syd, what’s the matter?” “I think my water broke” she whispered looking positively terrified. That’s when the first contraction caused her to double over in pain.

Chapter 5

As the contraction subsided, Nadia screamed to Weiss,” We need an ambulance!" Weiss came rushing in and saw Sydney doing her labor breathing, clutching Nadia's hand, and her other hand over her stomach he ran out, knowing Sydney was in labor. He dashed to the kitchen, he grabbed the phone, but as he was about to dial, it rang "What!" he answered. "Hey um..., it's Marshall I was calling to let you know that we found Vaughn in a ware house 60 miles south of here he's coming home" he said hurriedly, knowing Weiss was impatient, "Bring him to the Stafford Naval Hospital, Sydney's in labor!" he yelled slamming down the phone. He remembered the ambulance and quickly dialed 911. As he was hanging up, Sydney was walking towards the kitchen, supported by Nadia who had white knuckles and purple fingers from her inhumanly strong grip.
Sydney fell onto the couch and as another contraction came, started to cry "I can't do it," she whispered "I need him," clearly referring to Vaughn. "The ambulance is here," Weiss said," Let's go" unsure as to how to respond to Sydney's plea. As the EMT's rushed in, Weiss decided not to inform Sydney of Vaughn's possible presence at the hospital because he didn't want her to get hurt if they had to take him to prison.
"Only, one of you allowed in the ambulance,” the paramedic said waking Weiss up from his mental debate. Sydney was already in the ambulance. “The father should go, ma’am,” the paramedic said as Nadia tried to get in the ambulance. “I’m not- “We have to go NOW!” Sydney cried. Nadia hopped in the ambulance. They left and Weiss ran to his car and followed them. Sydney was in so much pain, not just physically, but mentally, she was in the most pain she had ever been in, which is a lot, considering her job. But, she needed Vaughn it was natural for the father to be present when his wife was giving birth. She loved Weiss, but she didn’t want him to see her in this state. She wanted Nadia with her though, not as much as Vaughn, but she was the next best thing. Her thoughts were interrupted by her third contraction. She let out a cry of pain, and Nadia squeezed her hand, and the paramedics demonstrated the proper breathing techniques. They were there. She was rushed to the delivery room, where the doctors got her in the proper position and hooked her up to several monitors. ”We’ll check up on you periodically.” the woman said and left. “Periodically, what the hell?” Sydney exclaimed, “I’m in labor!”
The doctor turned around, and said, “Actually you are not, you need do be at 10 centimeters before you are in labor, you are just having contractions, when you are in labor, I will be with you every step of the way, Your OB/GYN has never delivered twins, so I have to deliver your girls, I have delivered 165 babies mostly multiples, you will be fine.” She left and Sydney relaxed as her contraction was over. Weiss dashed in the room, saw Sydney in a very exposed position, but she did have a cloth over her legs, averted his eyes and quickly made his way to the head of the bed. “Syd, how are you,” “I’m okay,” she said smiling weakly,”My contraction is over. They should come at about every ten minutes, so I’m fine for the next seven.” His cell phone rang and he left the room to answer it. “You’re doing great Syd, hang in there,” Nadia said in a calm voice, stroking Syd’s hair. “It’ll be over soon and you will have beautiful baby girls”. Weiss came back in looking positively elated. “Vaughn’s here, he has been found and cleared of all charges.” Sydney was in disbelief, “If you are lying to me as soon as I give birth I will kick your ass.” “No, seriously-“Vaughn walked in; he kissed Syd and whispered, “I’ll explain later”. “Vaughn, I’m sorry, I never told you, but, - I’m pregnant with twins” Vaughn was silent, a look of joy spreading across his face “Syd, that is wonderful, you never had a chance to tell me.” One of the two monitors began to beep furiously, as opposed to the usual rhythmic beat. Sydney began to do her breathing, and she whimpered in pain. The doctor came in and peered in between her legs, “I’m just gonna leave…” mumbled Weiss who had no tolerance for watching people go through so much pain, he also was intensely embarrassed “Five centimeters, perfect Ms. Bristow” the doctor declared, getting up to leave, Vaughn stopped her. “ Can I talk to you outside?” “You should wait until Sydney’s contraction to over, I was pregnant with twins and a single child, the contractions for the single child hurt like hell, the contractions for twins hurt so much more, go back Mr. Vaughn, your wife needs you, I’ll wait right here” Sydney had tears streaming down her face from pain and joy, Vaughn was back for the birth of his children. The contraction subsided. “Honey, I’ll be right back; I’m just going to talk with Dr. Hecht” “Oh my God, Hecht as in Daniel Hecht, Vaughn I think that is his cousin! He mentioned he had a cousin who was a doctor; I think her name was Anna! Ask her if her name is Anna, is her name Anna?” “Okay, but honey, there are probably a lot of Hecht’s out there”. He walked outside not believing his own words. “Excuse me Doctor, but did you know a Daniel Hecht?” “Yeah, I know him-““You know him, Danny died seven years ago.” “No, I am married to the only Hecht in Los Angeles, Danny” “What does he look like, and what is his profession” Vaughn asked trying to cover up his disbelief. “ Danny is tall handsome, dark hair, a narrow nose, and a British accent. He is a pediatric cardiologist.”

Stella,

I think that you should have Danny meet Sydney in Vaughn some how and maybe they become friends . Another idea is for them to have kids close to the girls age. Maybe after Sydney has the twins or later on.

Chapter 6

“Why the hell did you lie to him?” Olivia yelled at Sloane,” We were going to tell him the truth!"
"Olivia, calm down, we can't have Vaughn go looking for Danny, it would cause Sydney to find out that we didn't kill him."
"Maybe you should of" she snarled back.
"The project is off. No more Rambaldi. If Nadia finds out, I won't ever be able to look her in the face again." Sloane said, knowing the response from Olivia would not be a happy one.
"You have worked on this for seven years, SEVEN YEARS! And you are willing to throw it all away. Unbelievable"

"Let’s talk about Danny later, right now I want to know how everything should go from here. When will Sydney go into labor? How long will she be in labor? Will the twins be born with in minutes of each other? What about pain? Will the twins be harmed because they are early? Will Sydney be okay? Why are the twins early?" Vaughn said, very concerned, his paternal instincts kicking in. "Sorry about all the questions," He muttered realizing how many he had asked and thinking "If I was there when Sydney was pregnant, I would know this, if I hadn't listened to Sloane 7 years ago, Sydney wouldn't have to go through this." its okay, Mr. Vaughn, you're wife will be fine," Vaughn looked at the floor, embarrassed,” We’re not married, something came up, but we will be," he added defensively. "Okay, Sydney should go into labor soon," she consulted her chart and continued," Her contractions have sped up to one about every 5 minutes, so she should go into labor within the hour, because she is having twins, the labor will be long, up to 5 hours, if the twins come out together, which doesn't always happen, because Sydney is at 36 weeks instead of 40, one girl could come up to a month after the other. But, they might be born within minutes. The survival rate for 36 week pregnancies is 98% compared to 99% for term babies, so your girls will have an excellent chance at survival." Vaughn was very relieved at that, and his face must have shown it," Yes Michael, they will be fine, your wife did not want an epidural, so she will experience pain, but if she wants, she can opt for an epidural. Finally, your girls are probably early because Sydney's thyroid levels are down, which is a symbol of minor depression, which can cause early labor," Vaughn was distraught, he knew that Syd was depressed because of his betrayal, and having to go through this needy time of her life by herself. Nadia stuck her head out from the hospital room,” Sydney’s contraction lasted to long, I think you need to take a look,"

Both Dr. Hecht and Vaughn raced in. Sydney's face was contorted in pain and breathing roughly. Dr. Hecht declared, “Ten centimeters and ready to go, Sydney you are in labor. What I need you to do know is push as hard as you can." "Push, Syd, push" Nadia said. Vaughn was at the foot of the bed with Dr.Hecht. "Good job, Sydney, but you have to keep going, push!" Outside in the waiting room, Jack Bristow, Marshall Flinkman, Carrie, and Weiss stood nervously, but Jack wasn't showing it. "I can see the head, the head is almost out, just a few more pushes and you will have a beautiful baby girl," Sydney push with all of her strength, which is quite considerable and the head was out, then the rest of the body. Nadia started to cry with happiness, then Sydney. Dr. Hecht took the girl and cleared her airways and handed her to Sydney. Sydney cradled her daughter and Vaughn kissed both of them." I am so proud Sydney," Vaughn whispered, uncharacteristically close to tears. Dr. Hecht cleared her throat "Congratulations, but your other daughter probably won't be born for at least a week, we would like to keep you in the hospital until your other daughter is born. Sydney's eyes were wide, "Is that okay?" "Yes, it is actually common with premature twins. If there are any problems, page me." Just then, the unnamed girl opened her eyes, which like her fathers, was a beautifully vivid green. “Brooke, I want to name her Brooke. Is that okay?” Beautiful” Vaughn said referring to his daughter, the name, and moreover, Sydney.

I am still in shock and denial over the premier :jawdrop:. I am still crying, (n). Vaughn will be fine in my fic, actually he will never die. He will be like Achilles, except for no weak tendon! Sorry, learning Greek mythology in school!

Chapter 6

There was a knock at the door. “Come in,” Jack, Marshall, Carrie, and Weiss entered. Marshall was the first one to notice that there was only on child. Being quite socially impaired, he whispered to Carrie, “I thought she was having twins,” Carrie ignored him.” Congratulations, Sydney. She is beautiful.” Jack decided to ask Sydney about her other daughter. As Weiss, Carrie, and Marshall were preoccupied with Brooke, who was in her fathers’ arms, Jack decide to ask Sydney about her other daughter was. “Oh, I thought Dr. Hecht told you,” seeing the startled look in Jack’s face she continued, “No relation to Danny, Vaughn asked. The other girl won’t be born for a week to a month,” Hearing this, Marshall was relieved. “I thought she was-“he was cut off by an elbow in the gut from Carrie. “Nothing.” He muttered, with one hand clutching the sore spot on his stomach.” She is beautiful, Syd” Weiss said handing Sydney her daughter.

Dr. Hecht walked in, “Mr. Vaughn, seeing that you were so interested in my husband, I brought him up here. He works in this hospital too.” Vaughn was speechless as Danny walked in. Sydney saw him, and then fainted. Danny just stared. Weiss grabbed Brooke who was rolling out of her mother’s grip. Only Jack and Marshall had ever seen Danny. Jack got up muttered “You son of a b****,” and then punched him. Danny was out cold. Vaughn was still startled, “Was that him?” he asked Jack. He nodded. The other Dr. Hecht was confused “What the hell is going on, I am calling the police!”

“Don’t” Vaughn said hurriedly,” My fiancée and your husband were engaged, they had a bad break-up” Danny was stirring, as he got up, he was rubbing his bleeding temple. “Sydney, Sydney” he said trying to get her out of her stupor. She opened her eyes and looked at him. “You are dead,” she said believing that the small amount of medicine they gave her was the wrong kind and she was hallucinating.” Sydney, Sloane told me that you died in a plane crash coming back from San Francisco.” Vaughn understood now that Sloane had never killed Danny, everyone else had figured this out by now but, he was in shock. “I’ve missed you, Sydney” he said Sydney had tears in her eyes,” I missed you too”. Danny walked over to her and gave her the longest hug. Vaughn was very jealous, “Danny…” he let go and began to give the condensed version of the story to his wife. About how Sydney was a spy, he found out, was told she was dead, and now they are here.

Dr. Hecht, who was coincidentally named Anna, was very surprised by this news and was uncomfortable seeing her husband looking into another woman’s eyes liked he used to look into hers, but went on with the news she came to tell Sydney and Vaughn. “There is a complication with your other daughter, Ms. Bristow; the umbilical cord is wrapped around her neck. We need to do a Caesarean immediately.

Sydney was worried, “Will she be okay?” Anna replied “We do this procedure all the time; there is nothing to worry about. A nurse came in and started to wheel Sydney’s bed out.” How long will it take?” “About an hour, you can wait right outside to operating room over there” She gestured outside. She walked out, followed by Vaughn who was very tense. For one hour, forty-seven minutes, Vaughn was sitting outside the waiting room, constantly checking his watch, growing more nervous with every minute. Danny was also sitting outside the waiting room, possibly just as nervous as Vaughn.
As the minute hand hit forty-seven, Anna walked out, still in her surgery scrubs, looking very tired and said “You have another girl! Sydney is still groggy, but your daughter is fine.” A nurse came out holding Vaughn’s second child. He took her into his arms, and she opened her eyes and they were the exact shade of green as her father’s and sister’s. “They are identical,” Anna said, going back to bring Sydney back to her room. As Sydney was wheeled into the recovery room, she began to open her eyes. When she was mostly conscious, Vaughn handed her daughter to her. He went over to Brooke’s cradle and took her out. He handed her to Sydney. She saw that they were identical and smiled. “Isabelle, what about Isabelle?” Vaughn thought that was a beautiful name and smiled, “I like that.”

P.S. You will not believe me, but I named the second twin Isabella before the premiere, I decided to change it because, well Vaughn liked it.
