Season 5 Irina has a son?

Here's my reason for thinking Syd and Tom have the same mother.

First, when Jack saw Tom's dossier for the first time back in ep 2, he reacted to something in it, and the guy giving him the dossier said "I assume that won't be a problem." So that means there is something interesting about Tom, and it's something that could conceivably cause a problem for Jack or somebody else at APO.

Second, the whole exchange in the shooting range . . . "my mother always said if somebody is worth shooting once they're worth shooting twice", and Jack saying "She sounds like my kind of woman." We all know there's only one woman for Jack - still holding onto her after 30 years! And Tom replied that he thought Jack and his mother would get along. It could be just a joke, but given that this is Alias . . .

Third, we see that Tom is kind of protective of Sydney - it could be just the fact that she's pregant brings that out in guys, but I think there's something there. And Jack went to Tom to protect Syd rather than say Dixon.

Anyway it's just a theory, but I think it's got a lot of potential!
 
maybe! But i just can't see them doing that. :-\ like ... i can't see them saying "sydney, you have a brother..." and they just did the whole Nadia thing. Also...that would mean more lies between jack and syd ... or that her mom cheated ... even more than we thought she did soooo ...

interesting theory... but, I have to agree with Danielle
After Nadia, the ods of Sydney having another sibling are probably none... besides, Irina would be SUCH a sl** unless Thomas was Jack's which would pretty much be impossible
maybe he's katya's :P
 
OMG now that i think of that..that would make sense...and a good story. maybe irina was a few weeks pregnant RIGHT before she left jack in 'the car crash' and she didnt even kno it. she might've had the baby 9 months after leaving him.... hmm then she wouldn't be a sl** and even if she is i'd still LOVE her just as much...

but then again, tom kinda reminds me of elena..but in BEFORE THE FLOOD elena told nadia she never had any children of her own, but she thought of nadia as one.....hmm this is something to think about..

No, good theory but i don't think that Tom is Irinas son! Maybe this Prophet Five is Irna's child, if the Prophet Five can be a person like The Passanger. That will make more sence to me if Irina had 3 special kids. The Chosen one, The Passanger and The Prophet Five...
 
Well, for all we know, it's possible that Tom is Prophet Five, if Prophet Five is a person. I'm skeptical about Prophet Five being a person though. It does seems likely to have some connectiong with Rambaldi though.

As for the whole who would be Tom's father - have we found out how old he is? I got the feeling that he was supposed to be younger than Syd . . . perhaps he was conceived by some unknown (to us) male quite awhile after Irina faked her death and left Jack.

Family has always been a big theme on Alias, in a non-traditional "spy family" sort of way. It wouldn't be so out there.

But for the fun of speculation, if he's not Syd's brother, then what is it that Jack had to say wasn't going to be a problem? What's his secret and why should jack care?
 
:D That sure is an interesting theory. Its probably too far for them to go, but it would be cool if they did; it might spice up this season a little bit.
 
I don't think Tom is either Jack's or Irina's son. He looks to me to be about Syd's age, perhaps a few years older. That would mean he would have had to have been born during Jack and Irina's "marriage." There is no reason why they couldn't have had another child, but I think Jack would have noticed. And Tom wouldn't be Jack's by another woman, because he was so in love with his "wife," there is no way he would have cheated on her. As for the "Is that going to be a problem?" remark, Jack seemed a little startled but not shocked. Maybe Tom is a Project Christmas kid like Sydney?
 
But Sydney read the file too and didn't seemed alarmed like Jack was. Or was there something else that maybe she didn't see? Jack does have higher clearance than Syd. I don't think Tom and Sydney are related.
 
I think Tom is Syd's cousin - we don't know if Katya had children and if she did he could well be hers. I know they said in Ice that Irena was carrying her niece in the picture which implies that Katya had children.

Could be, could be. There's no way to be sure whether the baby in the picture was a boy or a girl. And if it was a girl, maybe Katya had more than one child. Maybe Syd and Tom are cousins.

I see that the IMDB lists Balthazar as being 30. Assuming that his character is roughly the same age, Thomas wouldn't be old enough to be that cousin that Irina is carrying. Didn't Jack say the photo was taken before Sydney was born? He said something about seeing how Irina treated the baby told him that she'd be a good mother once they had kids?

Jack pauses and then asks “May I see that photograph?” Nadia thinks for a moment and then opens her desk drawer. She takes out the journal and opens it. Jack removes the photo and studies it for several seconds. He looks up with a slight smile as he explains “Irina told me years ago that this is a picture of her holding her niece. She told me that holding this baby filled her with a longing and hope to have children of her own.” Jack smiles as he continues “The next day, I asked Irina to marry me. I wanted my child to be loved like the baby in this photograph.”

So Tom is too young to be Sydney's cousin from the photo. A different cousin is still possible. ;)
 
I kind of hope that Tom isn't Irina's because it's simply the Nadia storyline all over again. Then Irina is a real sl**. We never knew too much about the Bristow side of the family tree, I mean we do know all about the Derevko's so maybe Jack has some weird relatives too. :Ponder:
 
omg! thats SUCH an interesting theory!! it wouldnt suprise me either! omg what if nadia and tom were twins or something? or tom & syd?

just as long as they dont do the whole luke/leia thing from star wars and pair syd/tom up and have them realize they're bro/sis later on, im fine with her having a brother lol
 
i would love that theory but the one thing would be the sibling thing being played out too much. but there definitely is something special about Tom, and Jack knows it. I hope we find out soon.
 
yeah, I have to agree on that - it would seem a bit overdone . . . but I feel like there must be some kind of a connection.

I feel like there's a lot to get to know about Tom; for instance, didn't they say about him "he has a terrible temper", and then it switched right away to a fight scene with one guy beating up another guy - but it turns out that Tom is the one just taking it.

Looking back that was kind of an odd comment, since he clearly doesn't seem to have a bad temper.
 
it's funny i think that he is irina son too !! since the episode 2 and because o f the last one !
 
hmm i think the 'problem' with him they were talking about was that he's a loner and doesnt work well with people. and thats what jack said its k to.

i really doubt he's syds bro. i think theres a better chance of him being mv's bro...hmmm...which wud b kinda neat too.
