Chapter 3

“I really don’t wanna go.” Sydney whined as they were getting closer and closer to the classroom.

“It’s okay, just ignore him.” Kate assured her, wrapping an arm around Sydney’s shoulder.

Sydney sighed deeply as they went into the room, fortunately finding two free seats in the back. Today really wasn't a day where she wanted to face anyone. All she wanted was sit in the corner and get the day done with.

Sitting down Sydney immediately spotted Michael and he was looking right in her direction, a guilty expression on his face that said everything and nothing. It showed clearly that he was sorry, or was it just plain guilt? What it didn’t show was why he did it. And to be honest, Sydney didn’t want to know.

It didn’t matter. Not to her. She was sure he had million excuses. Each one lamer than the next. And she didn’t want to hear a single one. He had hurt her so badly and nothing he could say would take that pain away.

She couldn’t forgive him. But most importantly, she didn’t want to.

“Just don’t look in his direction.” Kate whispered in her ear to get her out of her thoughts of Michael.

“Yeah.” Sydney sighed. She turned her gaze away, staring out of the window, her thoughts drifting off again.

She felt Michael’s gaze on her and she didn’t even have to look into his direction to know that. That was quite some mess she was in.

Pregnant.

She still couldn’t get that out of mind and she couldn’t figure out what to do. Should she keep it? Have an abortion? Give it away? No matter how much she thought about it, she couldn’t find the solution. Should she tell Michael? How was she going to take care of a baby?

So many questions and not a single answer.

Her gaze went back to Michael. He seemed concentrated on what the professor but as he turned around to her, she knew he wasn’t. He seemed unfocused too, seemed so sad and she knew why. He was suffering because of the break up as much as she did but Sydney couldn’t feel sorry for him. Even if she had tried.

He cheated on her, he made this relationship go to waste. It was his fault, not hers. He had to take the full blame for it and Sydney wouldn’t feel sorry that he was suffering too. Not one minute.

It was over and there was no going back.

“Miss Bristow?” Sydney was brought back to reality by the voice of the teacher.

“What?” She asked confused though she tried to make it not too obvious that she hadn’t listen to him, “I’m sorry what did you say?”

“Maybe someone else can give us an answer.” He said turning away from her. Sydney sighed and went back to her thoughts.

***

An hour later the class was over and Sydney was relieved to get out of that room, away from Michael. Kate was next to her as they walked out, talking about where to go to get something to eat. On one side Sydney was kinda hungry, on the other side she wasn’t because of the pregnancy. She was already feeling nauseous beacuse that came with pregnancies, though it could also be the break up that made her feel sick.

“Are you feeling okay?” Kate asked worried. Sydney was so damn quiet and seemed to be constantly somewhere else and Kate knew very well where, “Don’t let it get to you that much.”

“I’m trying but I can’t help it.” Sydney sighed, rubbing her head to fight the headache that was forming in her head. Kate gave her a concerned look, “I’ll be okay.” Sydney tried to assure her though she herself didn’t know when or how or if ever.

“Sydney.” She heard her name being called from behind and she knew immediately who it was.

“Do you want me to stay?” Kate asked as Michael approached them.

“It’s okay. I’ll see you in a minute.” Sydney said certainly. She was sure it wouldn’t take her long to talk to him. There was nothing she had to tell him, not anymore.

She turned around and faced Michael. “What do you want?” She asked harshly, the hurt clearly visible.

Michael swallowed nervously, trying to figure out how to explain it to Sydney. The way Sydney looked at him was scaring him. She had changed. Her eyes weren’t sparkling anymore. They were full of pain and at the same time emotionless, trying to mask the feelings. Though she had put on make up, he could see how pale her skin was and she looked tired, dark circles under her eyes.

And he knew he was the reason for all the pain.

“Can we talk?” He asked, praying she would say yes. He wanted to explain it to her, explain what he himself didn’t understand. How could he hurt her do much? He loved her.

“There’s nothing to talk about.” Sydney stated coldly and turned around to walk away.

“Sydney please.” He pleaded, grabbing her arm softly, carefully not to hurt her.

“Don’t.” Sydney hissed at him and pushed his arm away, “We have nothing to talk about.”

“I’m sorry.” Michael said desperately, “Please, don’t end it.” He wished he could say something that would make her feel better, something to make it come undone. That night was a mistake, one he regretted more than words could describe. All he wanted to do was fixing what he had broken but somehow he doubted he could. He had hurt her so deeply, at the moment it seemed like it was over and that was the most painful thing he had ever experienced.

“You ended it, not me.” Sydney felt tears welling up and that made her only angrier. There was no way she would cry in front of him, not after everything he had done to her.

“I love you Sydney.” Michael tried again.

“Don’t say that.” Sydney snapped at him, “That’s a lie or otherwise you wouldn’t have done this to me.”

“I… please.” Michael felt his voice breaking. He had screwed up the most important thing in life and lost the person he loved so much that it hurt.

“It’s over.” Sydney said. How could he say he loved her and wanted her to forgive him?

It was over and Sydney swore she would never ever forgive him, even less be together with him again.
