A HUGE THANK YOU TO SPYGIRLAMY WHO WAS AN AWESOME BETA AND GUIDING HAND! THANK YOU!!
Stockholm
Nadia lay in the tall grass that was keeping her hidden from the cameras. She was wearing all black with her hair pulled back into a tight ponytail and was concentrating hard on the driveway that curved up to the building below her.
“Evergreen, report in.” Jack Bristow's voice came through her comm.
“Evergreen to base, targets have not arrived.” she whispered. This place was supposedly one of the most secure places in the world. She heard the squeal of tires on the driveway below and turned on the night vision in the goggles she was wearing. She inched herself forward and saw two people get out of the car. Zooming in, she saw they were the expected targets.
“Evergreen to base, the targets have arrived.” she whispered. No one answered. She repeated herself but all she heard was static. “Evergreen to base, is everything okay. Base! Report in!” She raised her voice on the last two words. The two targets disappeared through a door that blended into the wall of the building as to keep out unwanted visitors.
Meanwhile...
“EVERGREEN! PHOENIX! SHOTGUN! HOUDINI!” Jack shouted over the comms. He couldn't seem to get a signal. “Report in! Evergreen, Phoenix, Shotgun, Houdini! Come in! Report!”
“Jack, shouting isn't going to get a signal. Probably one of the safety measures that Elena put in to keep teams from communicating and coordinating. Sounds like Elena. I've worked with her before my reformation.” Arvin Sloane sat at the head of the table with his knees crossed and his head on his hand. “They'll probably report in, in a couple of seconds.”
“That's my daughter, almost son-in-law, your daughter, and your almost son-in-law and you are telling me that you are not worried in any way?” Jack was furious. They would all be having a chat when they got back. “I mean, even for you, that's ruthless.”
“Jack, I cannot control what is happening overseas. They are in Stockholm, we are in Los Angeles, please, they’ll be fine.”
Back in Stockholm
“Phoenix? Do you copy?” Nadia was getting nervous, this had never happened before. If someone was keeping them from communicating, it had to be something really powerful. She decided that she should move towards someone and chose her sister, Sydney.
She ran towards the building, trying to stay out of the searchlights and avoid the touch sensitive mines that could go off at the slightest bit of pressure.
“Syd? Where are you?” Nadia had come to the place where her sister was supposed to be. “Syd!” All traces of her sister had disappeared. Her pack was gone, her parachute, everything. “Syd!” She raised her voice a little higher. This was nerve-wracking, and she started off again, this time crawling on her stomach so she would not be so inconspicuous.
She arrived at her fiancée’s spot, same thing.
“Houdini, Weiss, come on! Where the hell are you guys? This isn't a game anymore!” She spun around. Standing now, she was talking in a normal voice into her comm. “Anyone copy? Does anyone copy?”
Suddenly she sensed a movement, and turned around, trying to figure out what she had heard but no one was there. “Syd? Weiss? Vaughn? That you?” her voice grew a little higher, shriller. She was trying not to panic. Maybe they had all gotten together and were coming for her. No, they had agreed that if the mission was compromised, then they would meet in pairs to avoid the same thing that was happening. Damn. She hated this.
“Hello sweetheart.” Nadia spun around. A woman was standing next to her, wearing all black and carrying a rifle. The rifle came swinging down, in an almost invisible streak, and Nadia saw black.
“I've got her.”
Please don't forget to review, it helps me to write. thanks
