Ok so I was watching 10/8 before alias came on and they were talking about 666 you know the devils number and how 6+6+6=18 and1+8=9 so maybe the number isn't really 47 but 2 4+7=11, 1+1=2. Now I don't know what 2 mihgt mean but it is the only even prime number? just a thought?

JIM LENNOX WAS IN ROOM 47 AND THAT WAS ALSO WHERE SYD FOUND WILL EARLIER THIS SEASON.

There have been like a million 47s...

Marshall wanted to get 47 shots in the lipstick camera in the first episode
Marshall was held by Suit & Glasses on the 47th floor
The magnatometor that Sloane stole from that bank last year was in box 4747
There was of course page 47 of the Rambaldi book, which contained the Prophecy
Syd was held by the Covenant in Room 47
The server on the plane that belonged to the Alliance was Server 47

There have been soooooooooooooooo many more, especially in Season 2, these are just off the top of my head.

I honestly don't think we'll ever know the significance, just that it's a prime number and probably JJ Abram's favorite/lucky number.

Thats what I was thinking that it is just a numbr he uses to keep us wondering. But if you remember Lennox was being tortured in room 47 so mabye it is just a place where she was being tortured.
