She laughed. “Cheesy Poofs?” She asked. “Have you been watching South Park in the middle of the night while I’m asleep?”
“Never. Even if I was up, South Park wouldn’t be what I’d be watching.” He said smiling.
She raised and eyebrow. “Is that when you get the porn in?” She asked. “While I’m asleep?”
He let go of her. “Either that’s what you do or you just have a dirty little mind.” He said laughing. “I meant I wouldn’t be watching TV – I’d be watching you.”
why does he want it back lolHe dropped one arm in front of them and turned off the stove and turned her around. “I want my shirt back.” He told her softly.
“I don’t understand.” He said. “How do you have time to take care of the yard on your own without a gardener?”
Sydney sighed and stood up. “Jake, he’s Robert’s son.”
“Wait, you pay the stuntman’s kid to water your plants?” Vaughn asked.
“Yes, last summer he came over because he wanted to earn some extra money to buy a some dangerous mo-ped thingy…”
“Thingy?” He asked amused.
“Anyway,” She said. “I told him I’d pay him if he came over a few times a week to take care of the plants. But he only comes on Wednesday’s and Sunday’s, and he doesn’t start coming again until next week.”
“Well, does he know the password to the gate?” Vaughn asked as he rounded the counter and stood a few feet away from her as she paced.
“No, I always let him in.” Sydney said.
“Well, do you think it could have been some obsessed fan that just so happened to see the number you punched in?”
She looked up at him. “Some obsessed fan that was pretending to be a gardener?” She asked. “I’ve had stalkers, but no one has ever been on this side of the fence.” She sighed. “I feel like I’m going insane. Why does everything seem so messed up?” She asked.
He walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders.
“Syd…”
“Let’s go back to Chicago.” She said out of the blue.
He froze; surprised.
“What?” He asked.
“I need to get away for a little while.”
“Sydney…we can’t just go. You have your premiere and…”
“Then we’ll go for one day, we’ll go for Valentine’s Day, spend the night, and fly back Wednesday morning, just in time for the premiere that night.” She said.
“You’re serious?” He asked.
“I need a break.” She said. “Even if it’s only for a day.” She rested her hands on his chest. “Besides, I love your apartment.”
“What?” He asked in a disgusted tone. “You like my apartment?”
She nodded. “Yeah, why is that so hard to believe?” She asked.
He shrugged. “Oh….I don’t know…it’s just small and comes with a room-mate that sits on his a** most of the time and eats cheesey-poofs.” He said.
He nodded softly. “Yeah, I do. But we’re not perfect, we fight…”
“But we always make up.” She said.
He smiled. “Yeah, which makes fighting worth it.”
She laughed and kissed him softly. She walked around the other side of the counter and stirred the vegetables in the pan.
“You’re not the only one. I wanted to fight with you last week for forgetting to take the garbage out just so we could make up.” She said.
He laughed. “Oh really?” He asked. “So that time I accidentally dragged mud into the house and you started screaming at me you just wanted me, huh?” He raised an eyebrow amused.
She looked at him. “NO! I was really mad at you for that.” She said. “Do you have any idea how long it took me to wash the floor?”
“No, but I know how fun it was watching you on your hands and knees scrubbing the floor and swearing.” He laughed and dodged a kitchen towel she threw in his direction.
“Didn’t your mother ever tell you to not throw things in the house?” He asked picking it up off the floor.
“It’s my house, I can do what I want.” She said. She stuck her tongue out at him and smiled as she looked back down into the pan, her dimples making large indents in her cheeks as she pushed a piece of stray hair behind her ear.
“You should be proud of yourself. I am.” He told her. He wrapped his arms around her neck from behind and she rested her hands on his forearms.
“Why?” She asked. “There’s nothing to be proud of. I did it because I love you.”
“Exactly, you haven’t given up on me no matter how twisted things have gotten. Not many people have the courage to stand up and fight instead of run away. No one’s ever stood up and fought for me.” He told her.
“Vaughn….”
He dropped one arm in front of them and turned off the stove and turned her around. “I want my shirt back.” He told her softly.
She smiled. “What about dinner?”
“We’ll figure that out later.” He told her. “We’ll figure out everything later. I promise.” He held out his hand for her to take. She smiled for a moment, just standing there. She finally set her hand in his and he slowly led her back upstairs

“So do I. One day it will be, once I sort everything out.” He pulled her hair back and kissed the side of her neck. “You’re doing a good job by the way.” He smiled.
