Christmas Coincidence

awwwwww!!! 👶 Ava is just so cuuuuute! and go figure Daddy!Vaughn teaches her about hockey lol. i luuuurve it Katy! thanks for the pm and i can't wait for the next update! ^_^

She reached her hand out and rubbed it over his stubbly cheek, giggling. “Santa.” Her laugh was childish, as she looked at him.

“Yeah, yeah.” He rolled his eyes. “Come on, let’s watch the rest of the hockey game.” Michael suggested, carrying Ava over to the couch where he sat down with her resting in the crook of his arm.

“Okay, Ava, this is hockey, only the best sport that EVER existed. Can you say Kings are going to win the Stanley Cup?” Michael asked, chuckling.

“K’ng Tan Cup?” Ava attempted to repeat.

Michael laughed, kissing the top of her head. “Close enough, pretty girl.”

Michael... What the hell are you teaching the poor girl?! :o_O:

Sydney felt tears prick at her eyes, at the sight in front of her. Michael was asleep on the couch with his mouth hanging open slightly. Ava was curled up against his chest, her head resting in the crook of his neck, and her thumb in her mouth.

Sydney took a mental picture, before she decided she had to wake the sleeping pair up. Approaching them as quietly as possible, Sydney sat down on the edge of the couch next to Michael.

Instead of waking him up the way she used to (with a kiss, that usually led to something more), she opted to softly touch his arm and whisper, “Michael.”

Awww... Those three are as cute as pie. Yes, as pie. I adore these kodak moments... 😌

When Sydney started to lift Ava, she immediately began to stir. Ava’s eyes opened to be greeted with her father’s matching green eyes. “K’ng Tan Cup.” She mumbled, her voice full of sleep.

Michael grinned, “That’s my girl.”

Sydney eyed him carefully. “What have you been teaching her?”

“I just said the Kings are going to win the Stanley Cup.” Michael smiled cheekily. Sydney rolled her eyes.

Oh gee, ruin the moment, why dont you!

*happy sigh* God that was a good chapter... It's a shame we're already half way through! :(

Two days later, Michael invited Sydney and Ava over for a Christmas Eve feast. He had gone all out when preparing food for the girls.

There was turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, peas, green beans, lima beans, and an assortment of other Christmas-y foods and desserts. Michael had NO idea how they would eat all this food, but he wanted Christmas Eve to be special.

Sydney and the baby arrived around six, Sydney had a bottle of a vintage red wine in one hand and a bag of Ava’s things in the other, yet she still managed to hold Ava by the hand. Michael immediately met her at the door and took everything from her hands and set it down on the kitchen counter.

“So are you ready for your first Christmas with Ava?” Sydney asked with an excited smile. Michael gave Sydney one of his trademark half smiles as he shrugged. “You’re not the one who has to get up at six am.” Sydney rolled her eyes.

Michael replied, “This is true. For that I’m very grateful.” Sydney stuck her tongue out at him. Ava watched the exchanged in interest, repeating her mother’s actions when she stuck her tongue out. Michael laughed, scooping up the two year old and attacking her tummy with his tickling fingers.

“What do you think you’re doing, Missy?” He asked playfully, continuing his assault until she could barely breath through the giggles.

“You’re going to make her so hyper.” Sydney reprimanded him, crossing her arms across her chest. Michael looked at her with an innocent, boyish grin. All was forgiven as her lips twitched upwards and her eyes twinkled.

“Alright, Alright. I’m going to go get the food, you two get comfortable.” Michael said seriously, disappearing into the kitchen while Sydney situated Ava in the high chair that had mysteriously appeared in his apartment since the last time she had been there two days earlier.

“Michael, where did this come from?” She asked, motioning to the chair, and then to the playpen in the corner of the room.

He shrugged sheepishly, “I may have done a little shopping yesterday.” Michael said vaguely, unable to meet Sydney in the eye.

She huffed, “You shouldn’t have done that.”

“Just wait until tomorrow morning.” Michael muttered under his breath, before returning to the kitchen.

It took a few minutes, but Michael finally got all the food he had prepared onto the dining room table - ready to be served.

“Good God, Michael, you have enough food to feed a small army.” Sydney gaped, looking over the table. “And since when do you know how to cook?” Sydney asked, knowing that he couldn’t even boil water when they had gone their separate ways.

“Eric dragged me to a cooking class.” Michael told her, “I learned a lot, but the teacher thought that Eric and I were together. THAT was disturbing.” He shuttered, just thinking about what she had insinuated. Sydney snorted with laughter. “It wasn’t funny!” Michael exclaimed, a blush creeping onto his cheeks.

Michael spent the evening, telling Sydney some of the embarrassing things Eric had done while they were apart. By the time dinner was over, Sydney’s abs were hurting from laughing so hard.

Their light-hearted ambience was disturbed by a single, quick knock on the door before it opened and Eric walked in.

“Dude, you had real food and didn’t invite me,” he whined, throwing his jacket across the back of the couch. Turning around, he immediately noticed that Michael was alone. “Holy felgercarb,” Eric muttered under his breathe, Sydney Bristow, the woman who had broken his best friend’s heart just three years ago was sitting there with a kid. “gorram,” he gasped, Eric’s jaw nearly hitting the floor.

“Hi Eric,” Sydney said softly, bashfully as she looked at Eric with soft brown eyes.

“Wow,” was all he could manage out.

Michael broke the silence by saying, “Eric... You obviously remember Syd... and this is our daughter.. Ava.” He finished quietly.

Eric slapped Michael on the backside of his head, “Asshole, you didn’t tell me you had a kid!”

“Could you watch your language?!” Sydney exclaimed, covering up Ava’s small, impressionable ears.

“I just found out five days ago,” Michael exclaimed to Eric calmly, trying to calm his best friend down.

Eric’s jaw was still hanging open, as he let “Jesus” slip. Sydney and Michael both glared at him. “Calm down, calm down, I’m still in shock over here. I’m not responsible for what I say!” He told them, completely serious. Sydney rolled her eyes, but it felt good to know that Eric hadn’t changed at all since she had seen him three years ago.

“Okay, so how the hell did this all happen?” Eric asked a minute later, once he was more composed. “Well, I know how she was conceived you dirty little bunnies, but this!?” Eric questioned, making motions with his hands to the table full of food and Michael and Sydney sitting peacefully across from eachother.

Sydney looked at Michael, giving him permission to explain. Michael nodded, “Alright, so I was Santa while you were sick, and Syd bought Ava to meet me... well to meet Santa, and yeah... here we are.” Michael finished with a slight shrug.

“Aren’t you glad I made you work for me now!?” Eric asked with a laugh. Michael responded with an eye roll. “So Sydee, how have you been?”

Sydney followed Michael’s example, and rolled her eyes at Eric at the use of his old nickname for her. “Good... busy... babies take up a LOT of time.” She commented.

“I still can’t believe Mikey-boy knocked you up,” Eric said, taking a piece of turkey from her plate. Sydney just shrugged.

The three adults spent the rest of the evening catching up on all they had missed, and by the end of the night, Ava already had her “Uncle” Eric wrapped around her finger.

Michael couldn’t hide his smile as both Sydney and Eric left, this had been the best Christmas Eve he had ever had.
