That long-rumored Tron sequel is finally coming in 2011... and it'll be in 3-D. Joseph Kosinski, who's done a lot of ads including the cute Halo 3: Starry Night, will direct. And maybe a 3-D version of the 80s video-game movie will keep the whole thing from looking quite so dated. [SciFi Scanner]

Will it be on IMAX? Last year I went for the first time to see a 3D performance at an IMAX cinema and was blown away by the experience - it was amazing.

I recall enjoying the original Tron film, but it was so long ago that I don't remember much about it.

By coincidence G4 just aired the original Tron this week. Even with its gimmicky uses of tech talk, like a character named RAM and a companion named BIT that can only say "Yes" or "No", it is still a film that after these years still works.

Of course the films ending, in regards to what happens to Flynn's character, would not occur in the real world, but as a whole the movie is thoroughly entertaining.

I'm really interested to see this. The original is a computer animated classic. The fact that Boxleitner is coming back is a nice touch. Fingers crossed.

For those who remember the original Tron movie, be sure to keep an eye out the sequel scheduled to hit theaters in 2010.

Both 3D and Imax versions will be presented. It was announced at Comic-Con 2009 that Daft Punk will be supplying 24 original tracks for the movie and will performing the new tracks on their tour.

So it is my imagination or does the new Tron 2 (aka: Tron Legacy) trailer have a 'Watchmen' feel to it?

i have watched all the trailers for tron legacy and am excited. this looks like it will be a great sequel to the original. i was hoping that jeff bridges would have slimmed down for this role after gaining weight for iron man and am pleased to see that he did.

i remember watching the original movie and then rushing to the arcade to play the tron video game which i got real good at the light cycle portion of it.

kudos to the people who know how to make an awesome movie.

The trailers for this cry big screen! A nice idea would be if the cinemas would be prepared to have certain back to back showings of the original and new movies to get a nice experience going for the fans.

I think that this is the kind of movie that can really be enhanced by the whole 3D treatment maybe even more so than Avatar.

Yeah, I wonder if the local IMAX theater will be getting it. I have enough vacation time built up that I could take an afternoon to go watch this in a big empty theater. :D

Unless you wear glasses like me. :( Some manufacturers don't get that not everybody has perfect vision or has chosen to wear contacts.

I remember seeing Tron and enjoying it a long time ago. The new one has to be worth watching.

Re: 'Tron: Legacy' ramps up to light speed for December release

I love the original Tron and will watch it every time it is on. Last Christmas the Mrs. & I upgraded to a HD TV and one of the first things I had to do was track down a copy of Tron to watch on it (along with the Matrix ;)).

The geek in me is of course looking forward to the new movie but I can't help but wonder a bit if the story line is going to put off some diehard fans of the original (apparently there are two Flynn's in the sequel, one is the bad guy based on the commercials). The new sequel is a bit darker than the first one so it'll be interesting to see if Disney is trying to go after the adults who remember the first movie or if they are trying to go after the younger crowd who expect Matrix like graphics & cinematography.

I too am looking forward to it as a fan of the original. I am concerned that it might turn out to be an orgy of special effects rather than a good movie.

I need to re-watch the original...but definitely want to see the new one. Hopefully I'll be able to check it out at the new IMAX theatre here in town.

for this movie, I'm trying not to read reviews as it can only be given justice in a big screen theatre and going in biased might colour the occasion :)

I was kind of hoping the local theatre would run the two, back to back, for diehard oldies to make special occasion of it. But none of the ones in my city have decided to do that.

I'm purposely ignoring the reviews as well for this one. No point in letting others ruin a movie that I was looking forward to.

    Tron: Closure

I fell asleep for a few minutes, the movie played by the numbers and was what I expected to be. The two people I went to see it with agreed it was "ok", I wanted to be blown away with a fast paced and super high tech film and be feeling great after I saw it......but that didn't happen, so I played video games and then I felt better. They should have called the movie.............TRON: The CLOSURE
